Columbus Blue Jackets History
The Columbus Blue Jackets—whose name pays tribute to Ohio's substantial contributions to the Union army during the Civil War—joined the NHL as an expansion franchise in 2000.
The Blue Jackets played their first 12 seasons as a member of the Western Conference, making their first foray into the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2008-2009 led by All-Star winger Rick Nash and Rookie of the Year goaltender Steve Mason.
NHL realignment saw the team move to the Eastern Conference in 2013-2014, and the Blue Jackets have since collected six winning seasons and qualified for the Stanley Cup Playoffs five times. Columbus was one of just three teams to earn playoff berths in four consecutive seasons from 2016-2020, joining the Boston Bruins and Washington Capitals.
In 2018-2019, the eighth-seeded Blue Jackets faced off against the Presidents' Trophy-winning and top-seeded Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round of the playoffs. The Blue Jackets shocked the heavily-favored Lightning as they became the first team in NHL history to earn a four-game sweep in the first round of the playoffs against a team with the league's best regular-season record.

Great way to spend New Years eve with the kids! Jackets rock!
Despite all the injuries, the Jackets are playing winning hockey and a very entertaining style of play. Nationwide arena is great.
Columbus Blue Jackets on New Years Eve was a blast! Had a great time.
Absolutely love nationwide arena! Second jackets game my fiancé n I have been too and will be going to many many more!
Attended this game thru a deal on Living Social and am so glad we did! It was an exciting game as always, we had great seats and great food plus we were able to skate before the game. Everyone was friendly and kind and it was just a great family experience.
I've gone to New Years Eve games before because it's a fun atmosphere and a great way to bring in the New Year! The seats were great, fans and staff are wonderful as always. A++ all across the board!
One of the best arenas in the league! Great food (at lower prices than other venues), great location. I'm a huge hockey fan so I love watching the Jackets, but the commentators and other activities at the games are fun as well.
What a fun filled evening! Lots to see and the excitement was electric. Great fireworks show after the game. Best part was our 3-1 victory!
CBJ games are just plain fun and awesome when they win. Great venue, not a bad seat in the house. Even had fireworks for New Year's!
It was a good game. Seats were good. Fireworks were fun.
Great venue to see a hockey game, and a very fun, family-friendly atmosphere . . . even with all of the hits, and one fight, on the ice!
In today's world of rules and searches, Nationwide Arena manages to make it very friendly! The staff and the facility are top notch. Everything is clean and attractive and it makes you feel like you went somewhere special. The whole district is beautiful and inviting.
The game was awesome and the crowd was dynamite!! Seats are a bit small for tall (6'6") people though! Brought my brother from Florida and we had a ball.
Outstanding BJ scoring game. Goals from every direction. Took the spunk out of Bruins --- my son Ryan & I had a great time seeing this "BIG WIN!"
The arena was very nice with friendly staff. The area surrounding the arena has many places to eat and have a drink right outside the arena doors. Hotels within walking distance and plenty of parking close by. Very easy to get to and many places to eat and sleep within walking distance of the arena.
It was first hockey game for my son & myself. I finally got to see the Blackhawks! Nationwide arena is very nice & great crowd. We had awesome seats. Our seats were in section 105. We were so close to the Hawks! My son is a blue jackets fan & was happy with the win. We will be back. It was a great time.
We had a great time at Nationwide Arena! Great seats and very friendly staff and fans. Nationwide Arena was very clean and had good food. Hope to come back to visit again next time Blackhawks play there.
Very nice experience. Different experience and to repeat again.
We go every season to Columbus to watch the Blackhawks play! We LOVE our HAWKS and we ALWAYS have an AMAZING time!
