Columbus Blue Jackets History
The Columbus Blue Jackets—whose name pays tribute to Ohio's substantial contributions to the Union army during the Civil War—joined the NHL as an expansion franchise in 2000.
The Blue Jackets played their first 12 seasons as a member of the Western Conference, making their first foray into the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2008-2009 led by All-Star winger Rick Nash and Rookie of the Year goaltender Steve Mason.
NHL realignment saw the team move to the Eastern Conference in 2013-2014, and the Blue Jackets have since collected six winning seasons and qualified for the Stanley Cup Playoffs five times. Columbus was one of just three teams to earn playoff berths in four consecutive seasons from 2016-2020, joining the Boston Bruins and Washington Capitals.
In 2018-2019, the eighth-seeded Blue Jackets faced off against the Presidents' Trophy-winning and top-seeded Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round of the playoffs. The Blue Jackets shocked the heavily-favored Lightning as they became the first team in NHL history to earn a four-game sweep in the first round of the playoffs against a team with the league's best regular-season record.

It was a great game. Jackets scored 3 goals in 53 seconds!
1st period: yikes. 2nd period: OK. 3rd period: Wow!
Great atmosphere. Even if you're not a hockey fan you definitely should go. I had a person with me that was a fan when we left
The game was outstanding and the view was great!!!!
Great game. We try to attend at least one game a year with some friends from Kentucky and this was by far the most entertaining game we've seen, since, not only was it the first CBJ win, but it was a blow out 6-2.
Great night for the Blue Jackets but as a Canadian, hard to watch the Habs loose by such a margin! A great night otherwise though as the atmosphere was once again supurb! Hey, it is HOCKEY!!!!
I am a Chicago but the game was really great even though we lost. the atmosphere was exciting with fans for both teams supporting the cbj and the hawks. it is a good arena to watch hockey.
This was my wife and daughters first NHL hockey game. They both had a great time. Nationwide arena really impressed me. Everyone, including the fans were friendly. We are already making plans for our next visit.
Always a great time at the Columbus Blue Jackets game!
The game was great. The Blue Jackets won in a game that was thrilling to the very end. I sat in section 201 row B and i thought the seats were very small. It made me uncomfortable for most of the game.
Exciting game, large crowd, nice venue. We thoroughly exjoyed the experience.
Had a super time with my daughter. Great family fun and never a dull moment. It rocked!
Before the game: We had tickets for dinner at the lounge. There was no early entry for this. If there was, the staff was misinformed. There was a buffet with chef prepared food. It was excellent but expensive. The seating for dinner was limited. If they are selling a dinner ticket they should have known how many seats they would need already. You could go back at anytime during the first 2 periods for food and all three for dessert and drink. The game was great, the view was great, the staff was great. The seat was a bit cramped but the location was awesome.
Awesome and exciting atmosphere. Love stinger and love the Bluejackets. We had a great time. The nearby food places add to the experience.
Nationwide is a comfortable venue. I do NOT recommend the burgers, however, all other aspects of our hockey night was wonderful and I have no other complaints. I extend caution to families who bring small children to hockey games...language can be colorful from some of the fans, but for the most part, the Blue Jacket fans and the Bruins fans got along very well.
More dancing Kevin. Dude is an inspiration and a highlight of the blue jackets.
wonderful place to see a hockey game. I have seen multiple games from all levels of the arena and enjoy the views and the atmosphere anywhere i sit.
Sad that the Blue Jackets lost, but had a great time!
My boyfriend and I are starting to work on his bucket list by seeing a game at every NHL Arena. He is a Penguins fan and I am a Rangers fan so we really didn't care too much about who won the game and just enjoyed it as unbiased fans. The arena and arena district in Columbus is absolutely beautiful! The little park in front of the main entrance with all the trees dressed up in lights, all the beautiful brick work on the inside, it was just beautifully built. Also, everyone who works at the concession stands are just so nice and are really happy to be there and take your order! There are so many options to eat too! From your normal hotdog, popcorn, and cotton candy to bacon on a stick and gourmet grilled cheese! Overall we really enjoyed ourselves and would recommend to others to see a game at Nationwide Arena.
It was a great experience - love the Blue Jackets!!!
