Columbus Blue Jackets History

The Columbus Blue Jackets—whose name pays tribute to Ohio's substantial contributions to the Union army during the Civil War—joined the NHL as an expansion franchise in 2000.

The Blue Jackets played their first 12 seasons as a member of the Western Conference, making their first foray into the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2008-2009 led by All-Star winger Rick Nash and Rookie of the Year goaltender Steve Mason.

NHL realignment saw the team move to the Eastern Conference in 2013-2014, and the Blue Jackets have since collected six winning seasons and qualified for the Stanley Cup Playoffs five times. Columbus was one of just three teams to earn playoff berths in four consecutive seasons from 2016-2020, joining the Boston Bruins and Washington Capitals.

In 2018-2019, the eighth-seeded Blue Jackets faced off against the Presidents' Trophy-winning and top-seeded Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round of the playoffs. The Blue Jackets shocked the heavily-favored Lightning as they became the first team in NHL history to earn a four-game sweep in the first round of the playoffs against a team with the league's best regular-season record.

a good experience at nationwide arena. the CBJ goalie out dueled the NYR goalie. too bad since i and a NYR fan. The fans were behind their team but cheered good play from either.

Great game at a great venue. Close bars and restaurants to eat at before and after the game.

Great venue. Fun activities for kids and adults. Great crowd. Friendly and loyal to Blue Jackets. AND the Cannon is the icing on the cake! If you are in Columbus...GO!

  • Jackets great

The seats were great. I don't think that you can get a bad seat at Nationwide Arena. The venue was easy to get in to as well as get out. Parking close to the Nationwide, cost was not bad for parking. Staff was polite and very helpful. Wide variety of food choices, even gluten free.

  • Hockey was great - the venue - ehhhhhh?

by CoachDoc on 10/16/17Nationwide Arena - ColumbusRating: 3 out of 5

Hockey game was INCREDIBLE! Great effort and fan involvement - almost felt like a playoff game in intensity. BUT - When I am the first in line (at the bistro near section 110) and order 2 burgers and 2 beverages - 20 minutes before the game start - I shouldn't wait so long to almost miss the opening faceoff. And no apology for the delay. And please turn down the volume on the music and video fill when the clock is stopped. Some of us actually enjoy chatting with the people that we came to the game with. I used to be 1/4 of a 2-seat PSL group. Do a better job and I might come back. If not, then I made the right decision

  • Great seats!

  • CBJ Cup Run 2017!

by TKinTroy on 4/19/17Nationwide Arena - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

Always a great time at Nationwide for a Blue Jackets' game, but a Stanley Cup playoff game is in a class all it's own! It really has to be experienced to be understood... An incredible start with Cam's goal at :11 of the first period, the building erupted! A great game all the way, despite the disappointment of a Penguins' OT win, but these are the building blocks that winning teams are built upon, and it was another piece in the puzzle of Columbus' rise as an elite NHL franchise... I feel lucky to have been there!

My son wanted to go and we were able to secure good lower level seats. We all had a blast!

  • Club level was well worth the money

by Tazmyster on 4/6/17Nationwide Arena - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

First time we sat in the club level. We were 100% satisfied and really glad we upgraded and bought next years tickets in this area. Staff was overly friendly, food was awesome (and a decent price) and the lack of fighting the crowd made this area an ideal place to sit. We had 2 made to order stir fry dinners at a cost of $13 each. Deserts (Cheese Cake / Carrot Cake) were $4 each.

  • Great energy & entertainment!

  • Great game and atmosphere - uncomfortable seats

by Ggcgghhhf on 3/28/17Nationwide Arena - ColumbusRating: 4 out of 5

Great game and entertainment. Seats are tight - 6 feet 2 inch and No legroom. Knees were against the seat in front. No shoulder room either- very tight.

  • My cold black flyers fan heart thanks you

    by Wakegoalie27 on 3/28/17Nationwide Arena - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

Made a trip up from virginia to see my flyers take on the jackets. I've always had a fan boy side for columbus for some reason. Anyways, my fiance and i left at 6am to get to columbus a few hours before the game to grab some local food and walk around the city a bit. Got there at a little after 12 and was welcomed to the building by a huge image of bob and foligno (how can you NOT love these guys). The fans were incredible, very welcoming and very friendly people. The building was immaculate, greeted by some happy faces and yes! Finally after 6 1/2 hours of drive time we made it! Go to our seats in section 122 and watched my favorite tendy (bobrovsky) take some warm ups before the game and of course snagged some pics. Well, we all know how the game went. Bob shuts the door (thanks bob, i just wanted to celebrate once...but nooooooooo). Anyway, the whole organization was just awesome. The fanbase, the ushers, concessions and random guest services people were all just insanely friendly (yes despite my brightly colored winter classic jersey). The building is fantastic, for such a short story franchise the building has a very rich team history feel. 5/5 would and will definitely be visiting again. Must make a yearly pilgrimage to this amazing place! Thank you from the bottom of my black flyers heart for such a great time!!!
