    Deanna Bogart

by PHXONE on 4/2/10Berks Jazz Fest - Reading, PA

I am so pleased with Deanna Bogart that I just had to add this tidbit. The day after the concert in Reading I was compelled to listen to some old Jerry Lee Lewis records. After listening to several of his best I realized that Deanna had sounded a lot like he did in his heyday. Keep up the great piano work Deanna, you have a fan for life.

Deanna & Coco-Match Made in Heaven!

by joethemeatman on 3/29/10Berks Jazz Fest - Reading

I have seen Deanna Bogart a number of times and she and whatever band she's performing with is awesome. This show was no exception. Her set was great as always and when Coco Montoya asked her to come back on stage with her sax the magic was created. It took just a short while til they got into a groove, but it was an awesome groove. Coco is one of the finest guitar players I've ever seen. He can play with great ferocity and scale it down til you can hear a pin drop while he's fondling those strings. He's got a great voice and sense of humour to boot. Catch these two if you can-wherever!

    Berks Festival

by PHXONE on 3/29/10Berks Jazz Fest - Reading

The Deanna Bogart Band and Coco Montoya's Band for me was two headliners in one very good show. Coco Montoya and Deanna Bogart was a high energy very good show. Deanna was first and she set a tone that Coco kept up with when he came on. Both did the favorites that I wanted to hear and the new ones were very exciting to hear. The highlight for me was when Deanna with her sax joined Coco for a couple songs. The result was a very intense and very good pairing. The interplay between Coco's guitar and Deanna's sax was the one of the best I have ever heard.

Very Good show. First time seeing Coco Montoya and he is a lot of fun. Really kept the show exciting. Opening act was Deanna Bogart and she was great as usual. Fun to see. The Inn at Reading is nice in being a relatively small venue, but it is just a ballroom with a stage at one end and visibility is not great.

Three hours of music from two true pros! The highlight of the evening was an impromptu jam with Deanna delivering a smoking sax solo to counter Coco's guitar mastery. It was thrilling and a true testament to how much musicians of this genre respect each other and their fans .They definitely delivered, not like rock stars who run and hide in their limos they interract with people ,sign autographs and basically if they have time ,acknowledge the people who support them. Long live the blues!

    Next Time

by DTC1 on 3/28/10Berks Jazz Fest - Reading

Unfortunately my wife and i were not able to make this event, we live about 4 hours from Reading and could not travel this past weekend. We just saw Coco at the Birchmenre last month and he was fantastic, strong solos with that upside down stringset and great tone and his voice was powerful. The man is a true bluesman and artist. And by the way, his drummer is from another planet, incredible. As for Deanna B., we have seen her dozens of times and she is one of the most talented musicians you can ever have the pleasure of seeing live. We will see her next weekend as part of the Legendary Rythm and Blues Review with T. Castro, J.Johnson, and Debbie Davies, who can really percolate the blues. Sorry I cannot report of the Reading show last night, I am sure it was off the hook.

Deanna as opener was awesome as usual. We met her in restroom prior to show, had a great conversation with her. Coco was fabulous & very outgoing during his show. I love listening to him play the guitar. Will see him again in June or July at a venue close to where I live. Great Show!!!!!!

This was a great performance. We had to stand, which made it not as comfortable. The venue is small but you are right there with the performers. Very friendly fun place.

Coco Montoya - Better then Ever

by Chiricuzio on 1/7/10Rhythm Room - Phoenix

Saw Coco at the Rhythm Room in Phoenix last night. Have not seen him for several years, and was not disappointed. His band has changed over the years, but the unmistakable sound of this left-handed guitar wizard can still bring tears to your eyes and joy to your heart. Three hours of pure emotion played on his unique Fender Stratocaster (with left-handed body, upside-down right-handed neck and a reversed string order) reminded me of nobody... except Coco himself. Obvsiously influenced by many fine guitarists over the years, his style and rare setup and playing method produce a sound to be savored, and impossible to replicate. If I seem to gush with enthusiasm, I am to be forgiven. He is special to say the least. With a few new and largely unrehearsed cuts from his soon to be released 'I Want It All Back' and a fine blend of many of his past recordings, we were treated to a night to remember. I highly recommend you find time to see Coco, who promises to keep playing until it's time for his 'Dirt Nap'.
