About

CLINT BLACK IN CONCERT:

Country superstar Clint Black knows a thing or two about penning a catchy tune – he's got more than 20 No. 1 singles under his belt, and his hit-filled live shows have the feel of a greatest hits tour. It makes him something of a maverick in a genre where many artists record music written by other songwriters. Black has spent the bulk of his career singing his own songs, and it's served him well. His penchant for witty puns and clever turns of phrase is on full display in concert – both in the lyrics of favorites like "A Better Man" and during his amusing between-song banter. With his warm baritone voice, killer harmonica playing, and catalog of clever-mouthed hits, Clint Black is a must-see for ticket buyers who like their classic country served straight-up.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Clint Patrick Black was born in New Jersey but raised in the Houston suburb of Katy, TX. He grew up playing music with his family, and by his teens he had serious chops on both the guitar and the harmonica. Black cut his teeth as a singer performing with his brothers in a family band, and he eventually dropped out of high school to play music full-time. He spent the bulk of the '80s working odd jobs while moonlighting as a country performer, and in 1989 he got his big break when RCA signed him and released his debut album Killin' Time. The record spawned five consecutive country No. 1s, making him a star overnight and earning him several Academy of Country Music Awards including Album of the Year and Top Male Vocalist. His chart run continued in the '90s with a string of Top 10 albums and chart-topping hits like "A Good Run of Bad Luck" and "Nothin' But the Taillights." Black parted ways with RCA in the early '00s and took a few years off to start a family, and in 2004 he returned with his eighth album Spend My Time, which he released on his own label Equity Music Group. Critics hailed the album as his most adventurous outing to-date, and Black has remained prolific ever since, consistently delivering both in the studio and on tour.

A very good, solid show. I was a little disappointed that our VIP seats were at the extreme left, cutting off the view of part of the stage (piano), and that the PA was set up very high, creating an unnatural sound.

  • Clint Black was awesome

by akknotheadswife on 8/23/09Emerald Queen Casino - TacomaRating: 5 out of 5

Everything I expected and more. Sound quality was great. It was obvious Clint and the band were having a great time and so were we. All my favorite Clint Black songs and more! Never having seen him "live" before AI didn't realize what a great personality he had. The whole night was great!

  • Clint Black rocked the queen

by jackiejay on 8/23/09Emerald Queen Casino - TacomaRating: 5 out of 5

The emerald queen show in tacoma featured just one act, clint black, and that was ok with us. His show was absolutely great. His lead guitarist was fabulous, and chemistry between the band members stood out as a great team. Even though Clint has been around as a headliner for two decades, his personality and musical talent had the audience on their feet screaming for more. I am not sure who had more fun, though, us or them. They seemed to enjoy performing as much as we enjoyed listening.

  • Awesome Show!

  • Clint Black was great!

I took my 15 year old daughter, who does not like country music, and she just loved him and the music. She was tapping her foot and laughing along when he would talk and make comments! It was nice to be "close and personal" with him. He is so down to earth unlike some other singers!

  • Clint Black = Great

He is still as good as he was in the beginning. The voice has not changed.

  • Clint Black was excellent !!!

    by yukon2 on 8/10/09Ho Chunk Casino - BarabooRating: 5 out of 5

The show was excellent. Too bad the folks from Wisconsin were pretty quiet. The performance was terrific. Lots of older people. Not very rowdy !!! Great show Clint !!

  • Clint Black at Ho-Chunk was less than pleasing!

by mamamurray on 8/10/09Ho Chunk Casino - BarabooRating: 1 out of 5

Ho-chunk seating was all one level so you couldn't see Clint black. The lyrics were hard to understand many times - possible mic error or something. I would not py $45 for this event again. I was very disapointed in the whole thing.

  • Clint Black was as good as ever!

20 years after hitting the country scene and the man still has it! He was entertaining, fun to listen to, very personable and gave a great show!

  • Awesome!!!

by IloveClint on 7/17/09Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del MarRating: 5 out of 5

I absolutely love Clint Black. He put on such a great show and he also cracked a lot of jokes which I thought was really cool. He was really into the audience and I would definitely see him again.

  • Great voice and stage presence

by darkroom on 7/17/09Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del MarRating: 5 out of 5

Good to see that some "older" artists still command a stage. Especially one like Clint Black who has an "Aw Shucks" demeanor which plays well to his audience. and this audience was young, old, country, rock, etc. It is a huge testament to his show that he got three standing ovations. And he came back and sang three very different type of songs. One on the drums! Voice never faltered and his admiration for his band and respect for his audience was right on.

  • Clint Black is the consumate entertainer !

by Hink on 7/17/09Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del MarRating: 5 out of 5

Having heard that Clint is a unrelenting and demanding entertainer, my expectations for a tight and slick performance were at a high level. Not only did he exceed my expectations but he had a fun time doing it. This was a very polished concert that was well worth the money. Every song the group performed was a exceedingly accurate representation of his recordings and kept the crowd enthused throughout. Bravo, Clint!!!!

  • Clint Black is Fantastic

by CBlackFan on 7/17/09Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del MarRating: 5 out of 5

This was the best concert I have ever seen. The seats and music were awesome and I can't wait to see Clint again Live. My first dance for my wedding was a Clint Black song and I want to hear it live!

  • Aweseome seats!

by USMCretired on 7/17/09Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del MarRating: 5 out of 5

We were unable to attend but gave the tickets to an active duty USMC couple who couldn't believe how awesome the seats were! They said that Clint was funny and amazing on stage! Sorry we missed the show.

  • Clint Black was awesome!

by JJ09 on 7/17/09Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del MarRating: 5 out of 5

This was one of the best concerts I have ever attended. My husband thoroughly enjoyed it. The seats were in a great location for a low cost. Compared to what concernt tickets can run, I felt like we received our money's worth. Clint Black stepped out on the stage and never stopped. We had just under 2 hours worth of a well-done performance. There was great interaction with the audience and just a really good feel with it all.

  • Clint Black was Excellent

Excellent seating at Del Mar Fairgrounds. We had a table on the 2nd terrace. Ticket prices were great, and Clint's entertainment was unforgettable!

  • Clint Black one of country's finest entertainers!

by cmar on 7/16/09Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del MarRating: 5 out of 5

Clint Black played one hit after another for us at the Del Mar Fairgrounds! We had great seats and enjoyed the music and the high energy of the fair crowd! Clint always puts on a great show, I've seen him at the Fair before and in Las Vegas. Country at it's finest!

  • Traditional Country?

by Countrytexan on 7/16/09Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del MarRating: 4 out of 5

I was disappointed that not many of his top-selling songs were played, leaning instead to the more commercially-attractive (to Clint) newer songs, which don't set off any whoops and yells. Also, there was way too much harmonica wailing from Clint, akin to nails on a blackboard. I thought his best number was "Nothin' But the Taillights," and the crowd seemed to agree. The bit where Clint asked the crowd to mimic his harmonica sounds was nonsensical, and was not a fitting closing to his appearance. However, seeing Clint Black in person for the first time was exciting, and his band was outstanding, but I can never understand why there is no steel guitar -- that's country!
