About

Cleveland Cavaliers History

The Cavaliers joined the NBA as an expansion team in 1970 and made it to the playoffs for the first time in the 1975–76 season. The history of the team changed when they selected LeBron James — who grew up in the nearby city of Akron, Ohio — straight out of high school with the No. 1 overall pick of the 2003 NBA Draft.

James won Rookie of the Year and led the Cavs to the playoffs in his third season. They made it to the NBA Finals the following year, but were swept by the San Antonio Spurs. After Cleveland lost to the Boston Celtics in the 2009–10 playoffs, James announced his intention to take his talents to the Miami HEAT. He played in Miami for four seasons before returning to the Cavs for the 2014–15 campaign.

In 2016, led by James, the Cavaliers won their first NBA championship, overcoming a 3-1 deficit, and marking Cleveland's first major sports title since 1964.

    Crowd Cheated !!!!

by Anonymous on 10/21/09Petersen Events Center - Pittsburgh

Our Party of Three, for the money we paid ( close to $66 per incl SH ) felt CHEATED. The Cavaliers played their stars, even including rumored recent flu, etc problems with some of them & tried to provide some NBA style thrills BUT Dallas shamelessly chose to bench their entire starting line-up. Since we came early, we saw players like Dirk and Jason Kidd milling around and taking some light shots. When game time arrived, the STARS didn't even come out of the dressing room, until around the Half, and then again, they just sat on the bench, or I gather Dirk gave a lengthy interview on radio or whatever which naturally was not available to us Since the owner, Mark Cuban is a Local Fellow, and WAS present behind the DALLAS bench, he had to know the local crowd was going to feel the way I'm expressing myself NO, I would NOT attend again - a NBA Preseason game, and I LOVE BASKET BALL, have season tickets to the Pitt Panthers. Cavs vs. Mavs = Glad to have NBA in Pittsburgh

by GutenGunter on 10/21/09Petersen Events Center - Pittsburgh

The crowd had some warming up to do at the very beginning of the game, but as the game started, everything became more and more electric. I actually felt like the Cavs belonged in Pittsburgh, and it was nice to see the fans "adopt" the Cavs as the hometown team, especially since we don't have a team here. I'm a huge Cavs fan, originally from Pittsburgh who lived in Cleveland for 4 years, and was so excited to see them play a quality team in Preseason (last year it was Boston) in Pittsburgh. This show is definitely worth the price of admission, especially for Preseason. All the big names played major minutes and put on quite a show.

by actionjackson173 on 10/21/09Petersen Events Center - Pittsburgh

I have been to a few of the games, at the Mellon arena and now at the pete and I thing we should have more games here in Pittsburgh. There is a very big fan base here just waiting for the pro basketball games to be here on a regular basis. The game was great, the fans were great.

We did the family fun pack for this game and we were not disappointed. The Peterson Event Center is a great venue to see a game and this was Our first Pro basketball sporting event..We may consider going to more Cav's games in the future because of this experience.

    Cavs v. Mavs

by Gary53 on 10/21/09Petersen Events Center - Pittsburgh

Went to the game last night as I had not been to any form of NBA game before. Even though there was no "home town" affiliation, I thought the atmosphere was very lively and excited. Really went to see LeBron and Shaq "live" as they are both legends. Was very impressed at the amount of time they spent on the court and the effort they showed while playing nothing more than the Mavs second and third teams. Felt as if these superstars realized that the 10K people that showed up was there for them and they put through a great effort. On a side note, I found the dance crew, cheerleaders and emcee extremely entertaining. I still favor the college game but found this a lot of fun and would attend again.

    Playoff excitement!

by Pburr on 7/18/09Quicken Loans Arena - Cleveland

You can't beat the excitement of a playoff game in Cleveland with Lebron! Even though they lost the series, the experience was fantastic. Even up in Loudville you have a great view and can experience all of the excitement.

    Cavaliers Basketball is awesome!!!

by TiffyTah on 7/14/09Quicken Loans Arena - Cleveland

Although the Cavs did not pull off a victory at this game, the game was great. The Q has some of the greatest fans in the NBA, the staff at the Q is amazing, and it sets it up for an amazing time. I can't wait until next season!

Everyone was proud to be a Clevelander again.

by DIMPLEZ on 7/14/09Quicken Loans Arena - Cleveland

Just when our city lost hope the CAVS pulled in a win at just the right time. I went to a couple season games and remember thinking how crazy a playoff game would be. The energy is like no other. Cleveland is proud of our CAVS and we showed it that night. Many had lost hope way too soon, but not me. I have faith in our team and our ability to bring home a championship, and though we may not have pulled it off in '09 my sights are set high for 2010! GO CAVS!!!

    Cavs Game Tons of Fun

by Nashgast on 7/13/09Quicken Loans Arena - Cleveland

I think this was game 5 of the series and both the Cavs and Magic came to play, but the Cavs came out on top. LeBron James is really the only reason to go to Cleveland period, but he's a heck of a good reason.

    Priceless !!!

by LaDon on 7/13/09Quicken Loans Arena - Cleveland

You go to as many games as possible and sometimes you find yourself watching a game live that you know that you will still be talking about it 20+ years from now. What a great game. I feel sorry for the people that left and did not see the ending. I hope that they beat the traffic home. I can't wait until next year.
