About

The sophomore full-length from Clairo, Sling is an album with its own charmed atmosphere, graced with the easy warmth of a far lovelier era but wholly the outcome of her bright & restless mind. In creating the body of work, the 22-year-old co-produced alongside Jack Antonoff, recording at Allaire Studios in Upstate New York. As Clairo reveals, Sling’s lyrical element was largely informed by the adoption of her dog Joanie. “When I got Joanie, I started changing my routines & habits to healthier ones, to try to create an environment where she felt comfortable & happy, It made me realize I hadn’t been doing that for myself, & that I need to look at myself with the same respect that I’d give to someone I care about.” Several tracks feature background vocals from Lorde, “Blouse” offers a meditation on the degrading behavior of men in power. “I think a lot of people know that feeling of having to compromise a part of yourself in order to be heard, you finally get to where you’ve hoped to be for so long, & there’s just this guy looking down your shirt.” Her sophomore album, Sling provided countless moments of revelation for Clairo. While a number of guest musicians contributed to the album’s arrangements, most was handled by Clairo & Antonoff. The result is a perfect setting for Clairo’s songwriting, allowing abundant space for her nuanced exploration of mental health, unmet expectations, and the struggle to treat ourselves with gentleness and love

Clairo was great the wait was not

    by Clairofan12345678jojo on 8/2/18The Basement - Columbus

We were told to arrive there by five and we stood outside the venue, in line for two hours, until they finally let us in the venue. We got to meet Clairo which was a great experience, however the meet and greet was short. It felt rushed, and for the time we spent waiting on her, we could have gotten to spend more time with her. The actual concert didn’t start until nine. Again, we had to stand around for another two hours; it wasn’t because of the meet and greet, I believe they didn’t care. It showed when they were setting up they took their time and even bringing out the opening act took them awhile to want to be on stage. When clairo came out to preform, I think everyone was exhausted and ready for her to preform. Yes, I loved meeting her and listening to her live; however having to wait a total of four hours was unfair. There was also no communication about the event, we waited, but no one told us why the wait was extremely long or even any apologies for the FOUR hour wait. If I ever see her live again, I’ll make sure it is a sit down venue! Next time please tell us the correct time for everyone to arrive, if the meet and greet started at seven, and not five, at least give us a heads up (as well as the concert times).

    Crazy night

by Melzhang on 7/24/18The Foundry - Philadelphia

Everyone waited around 3 hours until they let us in. Doors were supposed to open at 7, but opened at 8:45 instead. 15 minutes before the show. During the waiting, it was 60 degrees, raining, and no one had a single idea how long we would wait or why we were waiting. The concert itself was insanely good. The stage was a little too small, because mics and equipment were blocking some of the view.
