    Magical night!

    by S. M. on 12/19/18Spreckels Theatre - San Diego

Wonderful performance! I like Spreckles theater. It reminded me of West End theaters in London. It’s small, so you can see the dancers so close and I like that the auchestra is right in front of the stage, not underneath. You can enjoy the music while watching the musicians. I felt like I was right in the Nutcracker’s magical world!

    Balanchine Masterworks Dancers Spellbinding

by Soulfuel on 3/9/16Spreckels Theatre - San Diego

Took my 95 year old mother who loved to dance to watch Balanchine Masterworks. Each of the 3 segments showcased a different style of dance. They were all spellbinding and we couldn't pick a favorite. Thoroughly captivated by the art in motion that the dances, costumes, lights and symphony brought to the stage. Bravo!!

    Orchestra Performed Poorly!

by Anonymous on 12/22/15Spreckels Theatre - San Diego

Although the dancing, lighting and set design were wonderful; the orchestra was terrible. There were constant musical errors in timing, pitch and sound quality. We have been a regular annual attendee to the Nutcracker. But we will need to find another venue unless this orchestra undergoes some major changes!

I love the messiah program. I haven't been to too many performances. I thought this one was okay. The seats were small (I'm 5'2"), my knees touched the seat in front me. But I enjoyed the decor in the speckles theater. The soloists were ok. I thought the men sounded better than the women. The best part was singing Christmas hymns in the lobby after the performance was over.

I love all the city ballet performers. Enjoyed Swan Lake and the contemporary ballet set to Mozart's requiem. I did feel that last years performance of the 4 seasons and Carmina Burana was better. The requiem was too monotone towards the end. Carmina Burana had more variety in between. Loved the choir - keep them in your productions, please. Swan Lake was nicely done, just needed a little bit of cleanup. Next year's piece is Don Quixote, and I will definitely attend again.

    Good, dancers where beautiful!

by Supasuga on 1/12/14Spreckels Theatre - San Diego

I'm a classically trained ballerina and this ballet was simple nice and elegant. It had some slow parts for me(choreography wise) and as a dancer it was a little boring. The ballet company was stunning and the dancers had wonderful presence. If you are looking for a yearly tradition I would recommend this. Not only did the ballet company dance eloquently but the classical feel of the theatre was charming.

    The Nutcracker was Crackerlackin'

by Matt1621 on 12/24/13Spreckels Theatre - San Diego

The perfect Christmas evening out..the feel of the older historic theater in the heart of down town Is unbeatable .. The performance was totally top notch, even from the little guys... Some of the younger ones were only 5 or 6 years old Large great quality orchestra and live choir......what is there not to enjoy? My wife and daughter were equally thrilled with the great night out.

San Diego City Ballet Nutcracker was awful

by Anonymous on 12/16/13Spreckels Theatre - San Diego

If this were a high school performance it would have been good. As a production by the City Ballet it can only be described in two words - amateur night. The dancers were rarely in sync - almost always out of step; they could not keep a straight line where it was supposed to be; dancers on one side of the stage would be spread out while dancers who were supposed to be the mirror image on the other side of the stage were clumped close together. Dancers sticking tongues out and thumbing noses. Appalling production. Kudos, however, to the orchestra. The applause at the end said it all - lukewarm for the dancers and loud and appreciative for the orchestra.

    Unique Ballet Performance

by musicmp2003 on 11/12/13Spreckels Theatre - San Diego

Not your typical ballet- modern, fun stuff with more acrobatic moves! Great upbeat music as well!
