Citizen Cope on Tour
Citizen Cope conveys a kind of quiet authority onstage, a casual command that lets the audience know from the moment he opens his mouth that he's a musical force of nature. Whether he's up there alone with only his songs and his acoustic guitar for company or he's backed up by a full electric band, Cope knows exactly how to capture an audience's attention and hold it for every moment of his performance.
His organic blend of influences encompasses everything from folk and rock to R&B and pop. With his rich, soulful voice and his knack for potent melodic statements, he makes all of his diverse inspirations flow smoothly into the same sonic river. He gives his audience the opportunity to ride along, soak it all up, and have a whole lot of fun along the way.
Citizen Cope Background
The man who came into this world as Clarence Greenwood (before redefining his musical identity and rechristening himself Citizen Cope) got his start working with Washington, D.C., band Basehead before branching off on his own as a singer-songwriter. Not counting a limited-edition indie LP in the 1990s, he released his first widely distributed album in 2002.
That same year, Santana covered Cope's song "Sideways," bringing him in for a guest appearance on the tune to boot. Carlos Santana returned the favor by appearing on Cope's own recording of the song two years later.
It was Cope's 2006 album, Every Waking Moment, that turned out to be his commercial breakthrough, earning him a bigger audience than ever. Since then, his music has been heard just about everywhere, from TV shows (Entourage, Smallville) to film soundtracks (Ghost Town, Fracture), but it's at his concerts that Cope really turns on the magic to the maximum.
Great concert , first time I was actually able to see the stage . Citizen Cope was great .. I was bummed he spoke to a little too long though.
Bruuuuhhhh Cope was AMAZING. The vibe was just good all around! After the show he even fist bumped and shook hands with us. Such an amazing show and the venue was small so ut was very intimate. Highly recommended!!!!
Probably my favorite American artist! This is the fourth time I've seen Citizen Cope live. Simply fantastic show, as usual. With his band this time, but also played a solo set during a seemingly endless encore. Incredibly talented musician, and a genuine bloke. Wonderful hits both old and new. The Fillmore is a wonderful and historic venue. Looking forward to next time.
Wonderful music!! Great musicians and songs! Highly recommended!
Sound was great, music was even better! The Filmore has never disappointed! The Citizen Cope show went off without a issue, couldn’t have asked for a better evening!
His voice is mesmerizing, lyrics meaningful and the band is vibrant. Such a fun show. All love and good vibes.
What a wonderful event and beautiful evening of music. Citizen cope sounded better than ever and had a wonderful message to share to my family.
This show was so fun! The venue needs a bit of love but Citizen Cope was phenomenal.
such a beautiful soul, im so glad i was able to experience this show ❤️ thank you so much
I hadn't been to a concert at The Magnolia in El Cajon before. The venue is nice, not too crowded, short lines for concessions, comfortable seating, etc. but the sound system wasn't that great. I go to a lot of concerts and maybe it was my location in the auditorium, not sure (6th row (F) stage left), but had Citizen not switched to a lot of acoustic songs I may have just left. He seems like a great artist, I knew a lot of his songs. Not sure if it was the venue or artist provided but the sound system for all of the louder songs was not good for me.
Love the Depot, such a great place to see a show! Citizen Cope was so entertaining
Love the music and the venue. no bad seat in the place and it's all close enough where Citizen didnt look like ants walking around a stage.. Great show, better encore. always great!
The band was amazing. The vibe from the crowd we very cool also. Everyone was having a blast.
For a few hours i forgot about Covid. Everyone was placed well, the atmosphere was perfect.
One of the best show venues, and definitely my favorite so far! Come back soon!
Venue amazing! Citizen Cope was everything we hoped for! Stage presence was spectacular. Really enjoyed all of the tremendous talent of citizen cope. One of the best concerts ever!
People love him, that was really nice to see. I loved the show
The artist said why he was doing an acoustic show, which was for reasons beyond his control. My group unfortunately still missed the beats in his songs, which is a large reason why we like his songs. Great singer live though and did a great job otherwise.
Finally Citizen Cope made it to the show, after 2 cancellations due to COVID. The Varsity is my favorite venue and from the size of the crowd I think everyone was feeling it. Unfortunately, due to sickness Clarence was forced to perform acoustically which made it a very personal experience, the problem was with an acoustic show everyone needs to shut up so you can hear the intimacy of the performance. Unless you were standing up front everything was drowned out by peoples constant talking, it really was too bad people couldn’t appreciate the effort that was being put forward by Clarence and made the experience less than what it should.
We love citizen cope and were so excited to see them come to town! He played all the songs we love and know .. however he didn’t seem to have any band members or staff and played a solo show with lots of awkward pauses and water breaks. There were a few times it seemed as though he could have even been lip synching. The lighting and stage decor felt low budget. I appreciate the talent and what it takes to perform in front of an audience. However I left thinking.. it was good to have seen citizen cope live.. but also a bit of a bizarre show.
