Citizen Cope on Tour
Citizen Cope conveys a kind of quiet authority onstage, a casual command that lets the audience know from the moment he opens his mouth that he's a musical force of nature. Whether he's up there alone with only his songs and his acoustic guitar for company or he's backed up by a full electric band, Cope knows exactly how to capture an audience's attention and hold it for every moment of his performance.
His organic blend of influences encompasses everything from folk and rock to R&B and pop. With his rich, soulful voice and his knack for potent melodic statements, he makes all of his diverse inspirations flow smoothly into the same sonic river. He gives his audience the opportunity to ride along, soak it all up, and have a whole lot of fun along the way.
Citizen Cope Background
The man who came into this world as Clarence Greenwood (before redefining his musical identity and rechristening himself Citizen Cope) got his start working with Washington, D.C., band Basehead before branching off on his own as a singer-songwriter. Not counting a limited-edition indie LP in the 1990s, he released his first widely distributed album in 2002.
That same year, Santana covered Cope's song "Sideways," bringing him in for a guest appearance on the tune to boot. Carlos Santana returned the favor by appearing on Cope's own recording of the song two years later.
It was Cope's 2006 album, Every Waking Moment, that turned out to be his commercial breakthrough, earning him a bigger audience than ever. Since then, his music has been heard just about everywhere, from TV shows (Entourage, Smallville) to film soundtracks (Ghost Town, Fracture), but it's at his concerts that Cope really turns on the magic to the maximum.
I will be at the Wilbur again for a great show, great staff and great venue!
The egg is a unique concert venue with the best accustics
We were at the listening party before the show to hear the new record. It was wonderful. I can't wait to listen to it more when it comes out. Cope's lyrics are so poetic- they slay me. Simple yet profound and deep. The live performance was great as usual - but even better than usual. Cope seems like he is in a very good place and it was shining through in his performance - I love seeing him smile so much. Altogether - just an absolutely fantastic evening.
The Buckhead Theatre was a perfect venue for Citizen Cope's solo acoustic concert. No matter where you're sitting, you can see and hear the performance. His voice cuts through, and he puts on a great show. He knows how to connect with his audience. A poet and storyteller.
Was a great show as always but I really wanted to see Alice smith and she wasn’t there as advertised!
I enjoyed seeing Citizen Cope so much in January that I bought tickets for his DC show and he wasn’t a disappointment! Clarence Greenwood is a talented performer and creator. He welcomes the audience and enjoys participation. His songs are soulful. To me he comes across personally as a person who cares about people and the woes of the world. Beautiful ❤️
Clarence delivered. He praised his band members 3 separate times. Each time the crowd cheered louder. The show energy grew exponentially during each song. Cope’s lyrics tell stories with visual clues that send away the ego leaving heart and soul soaring with love. Thank you for making DC the best. ❤️Tracy B.
Anthem is a great venue. Sat in second row next to very fun people. Crowd loves him. Band is very strong and sounded great
I took the metro to L'Enfant Plaza and made the short walk to the venue from there (~10 min). The line to get in was quick and easy. Clarence came on a bit late, and there was no opening act, which was kind of a bummer. The show was phenomenal, though! My biggest complaint is that the draft beer I got was not cold.
Citizen Cope is always amazing! We thoroughly enjoyed the venue but would have love to have been told Alice Smith who was original supposed to open the show, wasn’t there.
The performances were great, however the sound was not clear and the light show was blinding at times in the balcony.
Great show. Intimate venue. Loved it! Attentive staff. Wonderful time!
Great seats sec 12, unbelievable artist! Staff was great and venue was easy to get to and easy to get around inside!
This is my 4th seeing Cope! There really isn’t anything like a Citizen Cope concert. Clarence oozes positivity and good vibes. You look around the audience and everyone is smiling entranced watching the band all connect with each other and the guests. Truly a magical journey! See ya next time Boyz!!
I have seen Cope 6x now brought my 10yo daughter to see him and she absolutely loved it!!!
Great Show!! I’ve been following Cope since the beginning. Love his music and his vibe. He always puts on a great show and I’ll keep seeing him whenever he’s in the area! Well worth the price of a ticket!
Another incredible performance from one of our worlds best musicians. He brought an energy to The Wilbur that was palpable and I can't wait to come again! CITIZEN COPE!!
Citizen Cope was great! We traveled far and he did not disappoint… except he advertised Alice Smith as his opening act. We were deeply disappointed she wasn’t there. A simple acknowledgement would have even made a difference!
Loved the concert! He was a class act. The show started late and people wouldn’t shut up at first but he handled it all well and got people to be quiet so we could watch the show. The band was so good:)
Great venue at knitting factory and The Cope put on a great show. Couldn’t ask for better.
