About

In his return to directing, Jeannot Painchaud presents a show positively crackling with daring and modernity. Cirque Éloize's brand new creation, iD is a blend of circus arts and urban dance: b-boying/b-girling, breakdance, hip-hop and more. The scene is set in the heart of a city, in a public space where people seek refuge and a chance to shed their anonymity; a place where identity is forged and individuality is expressed to a stimulating soundtrack created by composers Jean-Phi Goncalves (Beast) and Alex McMahon.

    Cirque Eloize- different and fun

by ndbandie on 5/2/11Cadillac Palace - Chicago

As someone who hasn't been to many dance or circus performances, Cirque Eloize was a very unique experience for me which I really enjoyed. This show is definitely catered for a younger crowd with its focus on hip hop and contemporary dances which are all set to techno music. However, the incredible talents of the show's performers are so impressive that even if dancing or techno music are not your things, the show is a wonderful experience.

Everything about the show was fabulous...the quality of the performers and the technical part of the production itself was amazing! It was refreshing to see a "top-notch" contemporary performance that was especially appealing to a new generation of theater goers.

    Great lively show

The show was great with a very energetic cast. Very different lighting effects too with the background scenery. Go see it if it comes to your city.

Cirque Eloize ID was off the chain!

    by MSTISH38 on 4/28/11Cadillac Palace - Chicago

This production was so much more that I had expected. I have been to a couple of other "Cirque" productions, and as entertaining as they were, the excitement level paled in comparison. My sixteen year old son labeled it as "Off The Chain!" (hence the review title), and my nine year old loved the cool costume choices. This definitely is a must see for all ages!

It was a great show with great music that felt Fresh with a lil Old School Cirque Du Soleil style. Me and the wife had a blast.

    Great Concept, Didnt Deliver

by Jaymed on 4/28/11Cadillac Palace - Chicago

I was excited at the idea of Cirque Eloize iD. I felt, however, that the music was not intense/deep enough for the concept. Not all of the dancers were in sync when all were on-stage. I thought I would want to jump out of my seat and dance, but that never happened. Still... a great idea, but a performance and soundtrack that, I believe, needs more intensity and refining.

    Entertaining and fun!

by mwmagg on 4/28/11Cadillac Palace - Chicago

Great show! I always love circus performances and acrobatics etc.. but the mix of this and dance/music was great entertainment. We went on a Tuesday night, and it is usually a hard night to keep my husband awake (so I was expecting a snooze from him) but it kept him awake and he liked it very much as well! The price and time of the show were also just right. Not too long, not too short, not too expensive. We highly recommend the show for a fun night out!

Cirque Eloize iD - Derivative, but enjoyable

by MichaelWW on 4/28/11Cadillac Palace - Chicago

I expected Cirque Eloize iD to be "Cirque du Soleil-Like" and wasn't disapointed. The acts were enjoyable, some were amazing (the chairs!), but also derivative. I have seen the trampoline action before (Mystere) and the hanging sheet that a dancer wraps around her. But even though there wasn't much new in the acts there certainly was in the staging and especially the lighting. The ingenious lighting made up for the lack of a custom built theatre. The music was great, and the multitalented performers showed energy and emotion. They were into it! Our 3rd row seats made it even more enjoyable. I recommend this show.

    Go see it NOW

by hbart on 4/28/11Cadillac Palace - Chicago

This was by far the best performance I have ever seen. Cirque Eloize's unique twist on the circus idea is so enjoyable, you'll be dancing and clapping in your seat the whole time. The music was beautiful (I bought the CD), the performers were elegant and ridiculously talented, the set was constantly changing but never distracting. It added to the excitement and complexity of the show. This show is only in town until May 8. If there is one thing you buy tickets for this year, it should be Cirque Eloize. Everyone will like it, regardless of their gender, age, or interests. It is just under 2 hours so it won't keep you out late.

    See it!

As a circus fan and past college performer I highly recommend the show. The performers did a great job and the lighting and staging add a lot to the experience.

Not as exciting as other Cirque shows

by Seybarb on 4/28/11Cadillac Palace - Chicago

I thought the show was lackluster and a little lame. I've seen at least 12 or more other Cirque performances and I would rate this one at the bottom. The build-up of chairs is rather dated and boring. It's old stuff. The flying around the stage has been done too many times before. If this was the first time I saw a Cirque I might have been impressed. The talent on the stage was there, but the show was too slow for my taste.

Unique twist on the typical Cirque

    by Peapod32 on 4/28/11Cadillac Palace - Chicago

I approached the show having no idea whatsoever as to what to expect. I purposely did not read any reviews, do any research, etc. What did I find? A most unique display of talent in ways I personally found to be incredible. Not only was it intriguing in the Cirque way but there was an element of drama and storytelling that brought a different light to this type of entertainment. The combination of elements was just fascinating. Other than a few slow moments to build up to something amazing I found the show to flow well and the end was incredible.
