Cinderella on Tour
Cinderella is unique among the Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals in that it was the famous pair's only musical written for television. The 1957 debut of Cinderella featured musical-theater legend Julie Andrews in the title role, playing handmaiden to her stepmother and stepsisters after her father's passing.
In keeping with the storyline of the classic folktale, the musical follows Cinderella as she hopes for a better life, or at least one far away from her family members' demands. She is granted that wish by a fairy godmother who, through her magical transformations of the young woman and a nearby pumpkin, helps brings Cinderella tantalizingly close to the destiny about which she dreams.
In 2013, a new take on Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella debuted on Broadway, with a script updated by Douglas Carter Beane (To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Xanadu). The updated version of the story adds a few more characters and intrigue-filled plot twists, and — most notably — makes one stepsister at least somewhat sympathetic to Cinderella's plight.
The soundtrack also includes four Rodgers & Hammerstein songs that weren't in the original run of the show, which further expand the range of the plot. Laura Osnes (Grease, South Pacific) and Santino Fontana (Frozen, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) originated the roles of Ella and Prince Topher on Broadway, while Carly Rae Jepsen and Keke Palmer also played the title character during the production's Broadway run.
The Broadway run of Beane's Cinderella revival closed in January 2015, but the show is still enchanting audiences around the world with its touring production. Starring Kaitlyn Mayse as Ella, Lukas James Miller as Topher, and Zina Ellis as the fairy godmother Marie, this Cinderella demonstrates how with a little magic and a sprinkle or two of fairy dust, anyone can be who they want to be.

Cinderella was absolutely wonderful! It brought back memories of when I saw the movie (not animated) on TV many years ago. The music and costumes were wonderful!
I didn’t attend the event. When I went to Violins of Hope a couple of weeks before it was an unpleasant experience and I did not want to repeat it!! Everyone was lined up down the block in the freezing cold and when we finally got to the door their was a black female security guard barking at us and talking to us like we were all a bunch of children. I didn’t appreciate it at all!!
This show was completely magical. The costumes, sets, and props were rivaled only by the fantastic actors. A very enjoyable evening at the Tennessee Theatre!
Kaitlyn Mayse and Zina Ellis lead a wonderful singing troupe that was truly enjoyable. Thanks for an entertaining evening.
This was my third and fourth time seeing this show, and it was every bit as magical as the first time!! The cast, the costume changes, the scenery, and the show itself are sheer perfection, and I am so incredibly sad that the tour is closing this year!! Go see it while you can and support this beautiful cast and this magical show! You won't regret it!!
I attended the show with two colleagues. We enjoyed the show and had a wonderful time!
Great seats and the performance was very good and fun.
the play was just as fabulous as the venue! I LOVE broadway shows at the Tennessee Theater!
The cast is so talented , acting, singing, and dancing were wonderful!! We are still trying to figure out the magic of costume changes.
Fabulous show with great voices, amazing costume changes (how did she do that?) and fabulous acting!
The show so exceeded my expectations! The costumes, the special effects and the talent of cast made the experience just delightful!
Met all of my expectations and more...the voices, the dancing, the staging were all fabulous...What a joy!!
Great show all around. I was just disappointed that Cinderella never wore a blue dress!
It was not as I expected but it was surprisingly good. I guess I was expecting it to be like the typical Cinderella story. I should have researched it more. But it was a little comedic and I totally enjoyed it. I loved how they changed the pumpkin into the carriage and changed clothing right in front of you without you even realizing it. I totally enjoyed it. I only gave it 4 because it is a little different than the original. But I would absolutely recommend it. The first creature that the prince kills is a little scary so small children should know about that. But worth seeing and adding to your repertoire!
Wonderful performance. The leads were just as good as those in NYC. Orchestra great as well.
I took my girlfriend and her adult daughter and they loved it. I thought it was pretty good. It goes beyond the basic story but is presented well, nice flow and entertaining. The venue is old but taken care of. Line to the ladies room looked awful, men’s room no problem, I walked right in. The Peabody is located near everything. Restaurants are an easy walking distance of a block or two. So is the beach.
The performance was entertaining, funny and well done! A must see!! The venue was a great setting for this type of performance.
The Cinderella show was beautiful. The acting, singing and dancing was beautiful! This was a different version of the story than I've heard and I enjoyed it very much! Cinderella was beautiful and the prince was Charming! The other characters added delightful humor! So glad I went!
Fantastic show! Loved every moment from beginning to end.
