Christopher Cross made history when his debut self-titled album was released in 1980. The album featured the international hit songs Sailing, Run Like the Wind and Never Be The Same. It went on to win five Grammy Awards, including—for the first time ever—the four most prestigious awards: Record of the Year (for the single “Sailing”), Album of the Year, Song of the Year (also for “Sailing”), and Best New Artist. An extraordinary song writer, Cross wrote all these songs and another of the most famous songs of the time - “Arthurs Theme (The best that you can do)” which he co-wrote with Burt Bacharach & Peter Allen and featured in the film Arthur that starred Liza Minelli and Dudley Moore. Arthur’s Theme won the 1981 Academy Award for Best Original Song.
Christopher Cross has also worked with some music greats and shared the stage with some music icons – from Mike McDonald – who sang backing vocals on Ride Like The Wind through to singing backing vocals with Carl Wilson on David Lee Roth’s version of California Girls.
Early in his career Christopher Cross and his band were the opening band for Led Zeppelin and Jethro Tull whilst in 1970 he subbed in for Ritchie Blackmore from Deep Purple for a show in San Antonio.
Thirty years since his stellar debut into the music business, Cross continues recording and touring across the nation, stopping at venues such as the Depot (Salt Lake City). He has released multiple albums and continued to contribute to film and tv soundtracks – including shows such as 30 Rock (he wrote Lemon’s Theme for the soundtrack).
His most recent album, Secret Ladder was released in 2014. The 13 track album, influenced by the likes of Joni Mitchell and Randy Newman, was written mostly with Rob Meurer and again Cross has worked with the finest musicians including bassist Will Lee (of the Fab Faux and Late Night with David Letterman), drummer Keith Carlock (Steely Dan and Toto), guitarist Eric Johnson, saxophonist David Mann, and vocalists Michael McDonald and Jeff Foskett (Brian Wilson’s musical director.

The man can still sing with incredible range and the interaction with the crowd was amazing
The experience as a whole didn’t disappoint in the slightest way. Ticketing was a breeze and prices were reasonable. The venue was nostalgic and the sound was well put together. We had second row center seats and were blown away by the warmth and personality of the musicians. Cross is still on his game despite age. His songs transport you to a different place and have always been on the top of my playlist. I would definitely see him again and again.
We really enjoyed the evening very much. He has such a unique voice. I’ve always wanted to see him, and got my wish. Drumming was a bit loud; but otherwise, a great time.
We have been looking forward to this concert and were disappointed. The drums and bass were way too loud, drowning out Mr. Cross. We could not understand what he was saying or singing. The gentleman on the piano and the gentleman on the clarinet were fabulous. We left early as it wasn’t an enjoyable concert. I would think with so many comments regarding the drums and bass this issue would have been resolved.
Chris Cross, Was an outstanding player, Singer... His Piano player caused my jaw to got to the ground I don't remember witnessing such talent! The Drummer and bassist were virtuoso's His Sax guy also had talent to spare! His singers were top notch! He sure knows how to find and keep fine musicians on his team! His sound is his own! My wife and I had a very good time, It was her idea to see this show, and I am very glad we did! As usual Humphreys seat are too tight! but the fan's close to us were friendly! I did not know he was that good! pleasant surprise. I am still singing those songs around the house! Thanks!
We enjoyed the concert. Pablo Cruise opened and played there great hits, and CC did not disappoint!
We got tickets to the show in San Luis Obispo. Christopher came across as a wonderful person with a quick wit about the past and what the songs meant to some folks. His humor and his thankfulness to the audience were apparent. He gave us a wonderful show and I felt honored to be a part of the experience. Yes, the songs brought up my youth and he was right. There were so many memories that surrounded me with his songs. Thank you Christopher Cross.
The overall event was well organized; with backup singers and a great band- especially the solos by the wind intrumentalist (sax, flute, clarinet, etc,) Although the drummer was good, he tended to drown out the singing; esp early in the set. Beats on the drum weren.t necessary, and were ill timed.. Most of the songs from earlier days were the crowd pleasers.
Christopher Cross did not disappoint. I was time traveling back to my youth enjoying some of his songs. Fabulous venue in Humphreys Concerts by the Bay.
I went to this event with high expectations. I went with my wife and our kids in their 20’s hoping to show them good times from our generation. Unfortunately, Christopher Cross couldn’t seem to deliver specifically with his voice. Many of his songs feature his amazing high notes that just trailed off or were rather spoken instead of singing them. He was low energy and promoted his band (who were amazing) more than himself. That’s great to do that but, you got to deliver too CC. Also, he didn’t do all of his hits. Choosing to do an acoustic set with at least for me were songs I didn’t know. Play what people came to hear. It was only the last one song encore that his voice finally kicked in. It’s either he can’t hit the notes anymore or he doesn’t have the motivation to go all out for his audience. Sorry I’m retired from CC. BTW his opening singer who told more stories than sang acted like a grumpy old man and didn’t make the audience psyched up to see CC. Bad choice and I don’t care his claim to fame is that he wrote songs for the Eagles. Nobody listened to him.
I went with the desire to hear the classic songs, in their original format, and it wasn't like that.
The Opener, whomever he was talked too much & mostly about himself as a songwriter. However, he performed many Eagles covers. Cross was excellent, as was his band. In particular the pianist & guy on horns contributed well. The soundboard operator had Cross' mic too low for the 1st 4-5 songs but made an adjustment for the rest of the gig (he may need his ears checked). THE VENUE IS GREAT! It is intimate with excellent acoustics and ambiance. HOWEVER THE PLASTIC FOLDING CHAIRS DEPLOYED FOR SEATING SUCKED. THEY HAD NO LOW BACK SUPPORT, AND KEPT US SQUIRMING FOR OVER AN HOUR. We finally stood off to the side for the rest of the show.
An intimate experience that will last a lifetime. Awesome venue, awesome concert
The concert was very good and the small intimate venue made it even better
I entered with low expectations thinking the musical performance would be average at best due to a small concert venue, and that we were probably 24 years removed from his musical peak. I was wrong. Christopher Cross delivered a concert that I now hold in my Top 5 live music experiences. (Michael Jackson Thriller Tour, Chaka Khan in 2022, Brothers Johnson in 1980, Tower of Power in 2023 round out my top 5 of live concerts.) His band's musicianship, lighting, and acoustics were outstanding. Four of his band members are from Paris, France, another from Africa, and the other was Asian from Los Angeles. It was spectrum of all colors. There are no weak links in this band. Everything he played from well known songs to deep cuts of early albums were very well played and sang. If I could have returned for a second night, I would have easily. If you can catch this 2024 tour then do so.
Both performances, Christopher Cross & Pablo Cruise, were great, especially the young man who played all of the woodwind instruments, he was fabulous. My only complaint is that the room was too cold & I was a bit uncomfortable due to the temperature.
His performance was excellent - However, sound system management tended to allow the instruments to "over-ride"his voice, which was irritating
I’m so disappointed that he did not sing his song “Is there something”. The reason I watched his concert because this song is very meaningful to me…part of my journey in love, lost, and letting go.
Christopher Cross has great band, members from all over the world. The sound, imagery and sound definition were great. He interacts with the audience. His voice still sounds great. The only thing I wish is the show would have been longer.
