Chicago Blackhawks History

The Chicago Blackhawks were founded in 1926 and were part of the Original Six group of franchises, which constituted the NHL from 1942 until league expansion in 1967. The club won Stanley Cup Championships in the 1933-1934 and 1937-1938 seasons, but success proved largely elusive over the next two decades, except for one appearance in the final in 1943-1944. The 1960s signaled a rebirth for the franchise, with future Hall of Famers Stan Mikita, Bobby Hull, Pierre Pilote, and Glenn Hall leading the way. The Blackhawks defeated the Detroit Red Wings in the 1961 Stanley Cup Final, collecting their third championship.

The addition of eventual Hall of Fame goaltender Tony Esposito ahead of the 1969-1970 season marked the start of an era during which the team earned a Playoff berth in 28 consecutive seasons. In 1971 and 1973 the Blackhawks reached the Stanley Cup Final, losing both times to the Montreal Canadiens. More excellence followed in the 1990s, aided by the likes of Ed Belfour and Jeremy Roenick, as the Blackhawks finished with the league's best record in 1990-1991 and made the Stanley Cup Final in 1991-1992.

By selecting their eventual captain Jonathan Toews third overall in the 2006 NHL Draft, the Blackhawks began stocking up on young talent, also adding Patrick Kane first overall the following year. They returned to the Playoffs in 2008-2009, and in the very next season, Chicago defeated the Philadelphia Flyers for their first Stanley Cup Championship in 49 years. They added championships in 2013—beating the Boston Bruins in a thrilling series that included three overtime games—and 2015, topping the Tampa Bay Lightning in six games.

Chicago Blackhawks at United Center

Home to the Chicago Blackhawks and Chicago Bulls, United Center(Opens in new tab)—which opened in 1994—is the largest NHL arena in the United States, with a capacity of 19,717 for hockey games. The idea for the arena was created in 1988 by William Wirtz, owner of the Chicago Blackhawks, and Jerry Reinsdorf, majority owner and Team Chairman of the Chicago Bulls. The United Center has hosted the Stanley Cup Finals three times: in 2010, 2013 and 2015. The Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup Championship in 2015 against the Tampa Bay Lightning at home in the sixth game—the first time since 1938 that the franchise clinched the Cup in Chicago.

  • Patrick’s center ice honor

by Chuck tuna on 10/30/19United Center - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

My son Patrick was one of the honored military during the National Anthem at the Blackhawks game Sunday evening the 27th. Thanks to Boeing and the USO for the honor and tickets. I purchased 2 other tickets through ticket master for my oldest son and myself to witness this celebration. It all couldn’t have gone better. A life long memory we’ve got in videos and pictures. Thanks to you all and God Bless the USA.

Great time watching the Hawks. The experience at the UC was good. The crowd was into the game and the atmosphere definitely helped

We came from Hawai'i. We really wanted to watch the Blackhawks game. It was a dream come true. We had a great time.

  • Great experience!

by SadieR on 10/27/19United Center - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

While 300 level seating is really tight, every seat offers a great view of the ice. The selection and variety of food has increased, both in quantity and quality. The only thing we could ask for is a larger beer selection; there are many more options in 100 level, but who wants to walk up and down the stairs repeatedly?

  • THE BEST EVER!!

by Michael on 10/25/19United Center - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

I surprised my wife for our 20th Anniversary with close seats. Section 113 Row 12 seats 1 &2. She was beyond excited!! Totally worth it!! It is a completely different experience being there versus watching it on TV. Thank You TicketMaster for making the purchase easy and safe!! The app was easy to navigate as well when we got there for our tickets to be scanned. Can't wait for the next chance we have to go to a game!!

  • Queenie’s to HAWKey happy place!

    by P. J. on 10/23/19United Center - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

The entire experience that is Queenie’s is off-the-charts marvelous! We continue to include Queenie’s each HAWKey GameDay! Plus I recognized the pro-women’s hockey players walk thru Queenie’s while we were eating pregame, so I stood up to applaud their efforts[in Chicago for a 2day tournament]. Club level seats allowed for excellent sight lines of game play. We like the increased stat charts shown on the jumbo Jumbotron! It did block our view of the actual fluttering US flag though. Only negative is how the UC Parking Pass I bought through Ticketmaster was labeled for sale. * taking that up with them directly. Looking forward to our next meal at Queenie’s before our next Blackhawks game!

  • Good game

by Soupjoel on 10/21/19United Center - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

Game was great, graphics and sound amazing. Ushers were very pushy and seemed very upset about customers enjoying themselves. Go HAWKS

  • Hawks Game 14 Oct 2019

    by S. Z. on 10/19/19United Center - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

I saw the Hawks in Prague and that stadium was horrible for entry and exit. Otherwise Prague stadium was ok. United Center was great, quick entry and exit, bathrooms moved pretty quick. Food drink lines were a little slow. Maybe have a seperate line for drinks only. I had seats way up high but view was still good. Overall enjoyed the game and great time.

  • Great Time at the UC - though we would've liked to see a win

by Ginger on 10/15/19United Center - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was the outrageous mark ups on alcohol. We paid $23 for a beer and a Moscow mule - ridiculous, and this is a major deterrent to returning. But the staff was all very nice.

  • Blackhawks vs Jets

    by S. on 10/15/19United Center - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

It could not have been a better night! Well, I just lied, it would have been a perfect night if the Hawks won! But every thing else was great. Great seats, great food and drinks, great service..... even great parking!!

  • An interesting experience

by DJP on 9/28/19United Center - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

My first ever ice hockey match was good fun but, as a Scottish person, I was shocked at how often the game was paused for TV adverts and how many of the people attending were not really paying attention to the game - it seemed more like a social event than a sporting occasion - but that might be because it was a preseason game
