Chicago Blackhawks History

The Chicago Blackhawks were founded in 1926 and were part of the Original Six group of franchises, which constituted the NHL from 1942 until league expansion in 1967. The club won Stanley Cup Championships in the 1933-1934 and 1937-1938 seasons, but success proved largely elusive over the next two decades, except for one appearance in the final in 1943-1944. The 1960s signaled a rebirth for the franchise, with future Hall of Famers Stan Mikita, Bobby Hull, Pierre Pilote, and Glenn Hall leading the way. The Blackhawks defeated the Detroit Red Wings in the 1961 Stanley Cup Final, collecting their third championship.

The addition of eventual Hall of Fame goaltender Tony Esposito ahead of the 1969-1970 season marked the start of an era during which the team earned a Playoff berth in 28 consecutive seasons. In 1971 and 1973 the Blackhawks reached the Stanley Cup Final, losing both times to the Montreal Canadiens. More excellence followed in the 1990s, aided by the likes of Ed Belfour and Jeremy Roenick, as the Blackhawks finished with the league's best record in 1990-1991 and made the Stanley Cup Final in 1991-1992.

By selecting their eventual captain Jonathan Toews third overall in the 2006 NHL Draft, the Blackhawks began stocking up on young talent, also adding Patrick Kane first overall the following year. They returned to the Playoffs in 2008-2009, and in the very next season, Chicago defeated the Philadelphia Flyers for their first Stanley Cup Championship in 49 years. They added championships in 2013—beating the Boston Bruins in a thrilling series that included three overtime games—and 2015, topping the Tampa Bay Lightning in six games.

Chicago Blackhawks at United Center

Home to the Chicago Blackhawks and Chicago Bulls, United Center(Opens in new tab)—which opened in 1994—is the largest NHL arena in the United States, with a capacity of 19,717 for hockey games. The idea for the arena was created in 1988 by William Wirtz, owner of the Chicago Blackhawks, and Jerry Reinsdorf, majority owner and Team Chairman of the Chicago Bulls. The United Center has hosted the Stanley Cup Finals three times: in 2010, 2013 and 2015. The Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup Championship in 2015 against the Tampa Bay Lightning at home in the sixth game—the first time since 1938 that the franchise clinched the Cup in Chicago.

  • Home Away From Home

by IWB on 10/5/22Fiserv Forum - MilwaukeeRating: 5 out of 5

It was a great experience. Fiserv and Milwaukee did a great job putting on this event, from the Deer District to the game itself - top shelf event. Only suggestion I would make to improve - I am a Blackhawks fan, but there were many Wild fans and neutral fans and I heard several complaining that all of the "Home Away From Home" merchandise did not include the Wild logo. Yes, this was a Blackhawks game but for a historic event like this, much more merch would have been sold if it included both logos.

Great seats at a decent price. Only thing that would’ve made it better would’ve been a blackhawks victory!!😂

  • Great Seats, but the Team Fell Flat

by MelSmrz on 10/4/22United Center - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

These were row 1 of 200 level, really honestly can’t get much better outside of 100 level or suites. Great view and could see everything you wanted and could dream of for a hockey game. However, things fell short this time with the stadium and team. I’ve been To several games and in this same level, not sure if they changed how they did preseason games, but here’s what was missing. There was no concierge for the section, previously there was a server that enabled you to order food and drinks from your seat. There was no ticket checker at the doors to the section until second period, so there was no one checking to make sure people were in the right spot or to stop people going in and out during play. There was someone who initially checked tickets when we got upstairs to the level, but again, it took a period of play before the section did. For the team, they didn’t have a new pregame ice show or videos. It was nice to see they did the video for the original 6 matchup with the wings, but you would’ve thought for a new year they would have the new pregame stuff ready. They didn’t score or have a decent fight so the experience fell flat with everything else that was missing. Highlights was the promo beer stein and my BMO card discount at the madhouse store. Great seats tho.

Preseason hockey- due to special pricing we finally could afford to sit in the 100 level. So cool! Too bad they lost.

  • Blackhawks Game

by Sports Fan on 10/1/22United Center - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

Parking is excessive. Getting in and out of the parking lots is horrible. Concessions are good unless you go any time after the game starts. Lines are incredibly long, the workers don't care to hurry so you end up missing much of the game because you are standing and waiting. Needs huge improvement. We weren't allowed to go down the escalator when the game was over because they felt there were already to many people on them, 8. Hint - escalators are designed to handle the loads of people. Seats were good and comfortable. Good view of the game. Good experience.

  • Best time ever

Best seats best crowd best view Grandson excited when Toews tosses a puck to him

  • Preseason Blackhawks Game/Octoberfest

by DZ on 9/30/22United Center - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

Band was great! Half priced beers were great. Needed better instructions for picking up free stein. Should have said pick up before you leave the building - not pick up at beginning of third period and then have to leave and can't get back into the game. We had good seats but too expensive to go anytime soon again.

by MickDaddy on 9/30/22United Center - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

All the hockey excitement for my wifes first game. Great seats, great food, a hockey brawl, and now she knows why Toews, and Kane are so belived.

  • Blackhawks pre-season Game was great!

    by SRNA8 on 9/30/22United Center - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Entry was easy, our seats were great, and the staff was friendly and helpful. All of the concession stands were open early enough before the game, to provide people with enough time to dine before the face-off. The mascot, Tommy Hawk, visited our section which had a lot of kids in it. He totally made their day as he posed for pictures with them. It was a great experience. We can't wait to attend more games.

  • Need wider seats

    by Rogod5150 on 9/30/22United Center - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

Love the BLACKHAWKS . They are rebuilding so i knew it wasnt going to be close. The offer $20 for lower level seats were great . My only issue is the width of the seats . I know they are trying to sell as many seats as possible . Just wish they would take into account the fatter people . Thank you Rory 815-302-9164

  • Terrible seats!

by nmbrott on 4/19/22United Center - ChicagoRating: 1 out of 5

These tickets (Sec 218, Row 3, Seat 1 - 2), need to be listed as partially obstructed view because they are next to the camera well and half the game is blocked by the cameras and operators. Paid a premium price for them too! Buyer beware, I guess. Won't be doing that again anytime soon.

Refreshments and eats way too expensive. Ticket prices are out of hand as well.

  • Hawks Win

by RJK on 3/12/22United Center - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Eight goals and the win, usually pretty much would cover it all, but a hat trick on a free hat game, and a six point night for Kane, WOW, my daughter and I couldn’t have been happier. Thank you
