    Marvelous

by Robin on 9/22/19Chicago Architecture Center - Chicago's First Lady - Chicago

This is an effortless way to get a tour of the grand buildings of the city. It is a helpful introduction to architecture for a beginner. You can sit anywhere on the top deck and hear loud and clear the docent narration of the tour.

    Great Experience

by Blsander on 9/22/19Chicago Architecture Center - Chicago's First Lady - Chicago

The weather was perfect and our guide was very informative. Would definitely recommend an early tour to avoid the sun at the peak of the day.

    Unexpected experience

    by D. C. on 9/21/19Chicago Architecture Center - Chicago's First Lady - Chicago

Of all the river cruise options I picked this one because of its connection to the architecture foundation. It was a wise choice because we got some fantastic insight into the history of Chicago and it’s beautiful buildings. Above all, there was no cheesy nonsense and no pressure to tip all of the crew. In fact, they weren’t allowed to accept tips because they’re volunteers, so bravo to them for doing what they love simply because they love it.

    Great experience

by JV on 9/19/19Chicago Architecture Center - Chicago's First Lady - Chicago

Had 1 day to sightsee. The river cruise was a great way to see it all from a different perspective. Besides, we walked nearly 9 miles around downtown. The cruise gave us a chance to recover and then keep going. Docent knew everything. Her talked was informative and entertaining. The ship's crew was courteous and engaging.

    Chicago Architecture- River Tour

by John Andrew on 9/19/19Chicago Architecture Center - Chicago's First Lady - Chicago

I had heard from a friend that took this tour before that this is a ‘must do’ if I have a chance. Then Trip Advisor rated it the #1 tourist adventure and that sealed the deal! My wife and I enjoyed everything about this excursion- seriously. I didn’t want it to end. We took more pictures in 90 minutes than we did in 3 days in Rome! Just wonderful. We will do this every time we are in Chicago.

    Wows in the Windy City

by MK on 9/18/19Chicago Architecture Center - Chicago's First Lady - Chicago

Kathleen was a fantastic tour guide, rich with historical information on the city and it's wonderful buildings that have helped great the image of Chicago as we know it. I have always heard fantastic reviews of this tour, and finally my Slovenian and Canadian visitors made this tour happen! Highly recommend to all, those from and not from Chicago.

    Better than expected!

by James B. on 9/18/19Chicago Architecture Center - Chicago's First Lady - Chicago

Chicago has a rich history that is displayed in its architecture. It is one thing to see the majestic towers that punctuate the city skyline. Our guide made the history of that skyline come alive with anecdotes that informed and explained how and why styles were used and how recent architecture blends the modern with the grandeur of the past. Our guide was immensely informative and for the rest of our stay in the city we were able to see the buildings with a new appreciation. I cannot recommend this highly enough.

A do not miss experience for locals and tourists alike!

by Brian on 9/17/19Chicago Architecture Center - Chicago's First Lady - Chicago

The boat was lovely, the bar on the lower deck made us some delightful Bloody Marys, and we were off. The hard working docent was full of great information and talked nonstop for the full 90 minutes. I've lived in the area my entire 60 years and worked and gone to school in the loop, done some land based architecture tours, and this tour still knocked my socks off! Do yourself a favor and take the tour!

This tour was great. Informative, funny and interesting. We had Mike "The Mapmaker" as our guide. Could not recommend the entire experience highly enough.

    Best tour in Chicago

by Dd on 9/17/19Chicago Architecture Center - Chicago's First Lady - Chicago

I took visiting family on the river cruise last weekend. Everyone loved it. I’ve been on the tour many times, and because the docents volunteer for the tours, they’re passionate and knowledgeable. I learn something new on every cruise. Far better than any of the other cruises.

Very interesting cruise with great guide

by AnnickV on 9/17/19Chicago Architecture Center - Chicago's First Lady - Chicago

The combination of a different waterfront view on Chicago’s beautiful buildings, a very friendly, funny and knowledgeable guide, called Jim, who shared interesting stories and background in a very entertaining way and a perfect sunny Saturday made this cruise everything we hoped for and more!

    Would do it again!

    by Putty57 on 9/17/19Chicago Architecture Center - Chicago's First Lady - Chicago

We had a fabulous time on this tour. The docent was knowledgeable and had a good sense of humor. It didn’t hurt that the weather was 75 and not a cloud in the sky. 🌞

    Great tour

by lekhak on 9/6/11Chicago Architecture Foundation River Cruise - Chicago

Great tour made possible by a really good guide. Recommend to be mindful of weather - sun, rain, etc. Check weather forecast and prepare accordingly. Small waves in river, captain seems experienced - had a smooth ride. Staff helpful - kid strollers to be left in bar. Can have drinks at the bar - no restrictions of food that I know of - may want to check with Tour operator and get a picnic basket. Smells foul for about 2/3 mins in the middle of the tour, but still a pleasant ride. Dont forget to spend some time on the river walk after the boat ride, gives you a new perspective on buildings after the tour. PARKING: Discounted parking is available at 111 E. Wacker Drive - cross Wacker and take stairs down to reach boarding docks. Give parking stub in Garage office (opposite pay stations in Street Level) to get an override for discount, and then pay at pay station. Has accessible drop off right in front of the boat loading area - there is a street one level below of E. Wacker (Lower Wacker Dr?) - not sure how to reach there - some paid parking available.

    Wonderful Tour!

    by HSC1 on 2/14/11City - Chicago

Great tour I would definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys history and architecture. Only suggestion is to wear a hat as it was a very sunny summer day and a hat would have been great. I did not plan well.
