Don't miss Cheryl the next time she comes to town!!
This evening was one that I was really excited about! I didn't know Peyton Tochterman but was absolutely delighted with his work, so much so that I bought his CD which he kindly signed for me, and I'm on a budget! I think the audience agreed. Cheryl of course was fabulous! So funny, so ascerbic-- a fun time. She can be so sarcastic at times and then turn around and be the most tender.... This was a good pairing.....
Cheryl was awesome as always!! Fantastic music and witty lyrics. Love her.
I have always loved Cheryl's music, but until about ten years ago I had no idea how funny and clever she is. She always puts on a fabulous show, and this one was no exception. She's truly unique.
Been to Cheryls concerts for 16 years. Never missed one yet! This one she was as delightful as usual. Her voice is like angels voices. the humor is so refreshing and real. she hits a note of resonance of truth and comfort. Her consistent quality is rewards for deadication to the purity of herself and sharing it with her fans base is a gift. She is always welcome at our home in the coastal nortwest of Oregon if she needed a calm stay in the adventure of the road!
Having seen Cheryl in concert several times, I knew what to expect, and although our expectations were very high, she exceeded them marvelously! A wonderful poet, astute verbal artist and amazing musician, she is a master at taking her audiences through an emotional roller coaster, from tears to intense hilarity without missing a beat. Her delightfully twisted sense of humor and perspectives help us all survive, as Tom Lehrer once put it, our "slide down the razor blade of life". Thank you, Cheryl!!!!
If you have not seen her live, you should do so the next chance you have. Her voice is remarkable and it is not the product of studio wizardry. Her voice is every bit as good live as on her recordings. The humor that is evident in much of her studio work really shines in her live performances.
Cheryl seemed tired, worn and a bit more confused. More talk than songs, though I know there is always a mix in her concerts. She appeared to be more forgetful, and worn out. Sat through the "fake last song and told us as she sat there, "I.m back". Two older songs were great, esp. Estate sale! What I call the silly songs were plentiful: Potato, and songs about her cat. I would have prefered her to sing her songs of more depth, passion and movement than silliness. She seems like she is winding down to retire. All in all, I love her and would see her again.
As a songwriter, Cheryl Wheeler is as moving and gifted as James Taylor, Jackson Browne, Stephen Stills...in fact, anyone. Her lyrics and melodies touch your soul and her vocals hold you like a warm blanket and make you feel the way she wants you to. Such a beautiful mind. It was truely an honor to finally have seen her live.
One of the best evenings! Cheryl Wheeler is not only a gifted singer/songwriter/guitarist with a beautiful, resonant voice, she is hysterical! We laughed just as much between each song as we enjoyed listening to her perform each song. Bloody fantastic! Her stories are funny and insightful about society today - which means, of course, I agree with her view of the world! And absolutely enjoyed her (funny) stories about how each song came into being. She is truly genuine on stage, comfortable with herself and the audience. If you have any doubts about spending money to see her, put them all aside. You won't regret it and you'll be telling everybody else to go see her!
Cheryl is a consummate songwriter -- her lyrics and melodies haunt you in their touching simplicity of style. And, as an added bonus, she is an amazing storyteller!!! She had me laughing from the gut -- almost to tears -- with her personal tales of family, friends, pets and other unspeakable subjects!
From Christine Lavin opening up with good laughs for all to Cheryl's stories and songs, it was a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
Great voice! Funny stories between songs! Great song writing! Add some more lively tunes to get everyone going (clapping or singing, etc.)
A consummate story teller, Cheryl Wheeler used her music and her wit to take us through a range of emotions from melancholic nostalgia to riotous laughter. Explaining that "the job of the folk singer is to comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable," Cheryl entertained the crowd with songs showcasing her beautiful voice, soft soul, and dry wit. It was another wonderful experience!
Cheryl Wheeler's performance combines her amazing talent as a musician with her equally remarkable humor. She performs with a casual ease and humility that creates a comfortable and relaxing environment. Her songs range from poignant lyrics of loss and pain, to songs of wonder and gratitude for beauty in life, to funny songs about potatoes and politics. She is so self-effacing and easy to relate to that you can't help but be touched by her stories and her songs. I've seen her five or six times. I think she just keeps getting better.
We have been Fans of Cheryl's for over 20 years and she has never let us down. Such a pure talent and a delight to see anytime. We love introducing new people to her and watch their reactions. She is such a hoot!! Her lyrics are astonishing and her guitar playing are such a treat. you feel as if she is playing in your own living room...that intimate. Just can't say enough good things about her.have no other words.........Cheryl always stays after her show to meet everyone.....
I've been a fan of Cheryl Wheeler for about 15 years and have seen her live a number of times at this venue. As always, Cheryl was in fine form and put on a great show. She played to a sold out crowd and the audience was fantastic. It was great to hear a few of the songs off of her new album live - we even got to hear a brand new song that has not yet been recorded. Thanks for a great show, Cheryl - please make Atlanta a more regular stop in the future!!!
Anyone who has heard Cheryl on her albums knows how incredible she is as a singer songwriter but you really need to go see her live to get the full experience. She is first and foremost a performer and between the mix of touching ballads and quirky jingles she shares her personality with the audience and that alone is worth the price of admission. You have to be tough to go see her live because your side will be aching in pain after laughing that hard for that long. She brings her songs to life with her unintentionally comedic take on how they were inspired and leaves the audience feeling like close friends for life. None of this distracts from the incredible grace and ease on the guitar and her beautiful voice that cries joy with each note. This was a fantastic night. The venue (Red Light Cafe) left a little to be desired with their food service during the opening act, un-assigned seating that forced you to stand in line for an hour to get a decent spot, and the flimsy chairs but the staff was friendly and the 420 on draft hit the spot. Venue 3 stars, Cheryl 5 stars. Overall it was a 4.5.
