About Charlotte Motor Speedway Events
Concord, North Carolina, is home to one of the most iconic tracks in stock car racing. The 1.5-mile quad-oval asphalt track at Charlotte Motor Speedway is located 12 miles northeast of Charlotte, and it has been hosting race events since opening in 1960. CMS is home to three annual NASCAR Cup events: the NASCAR All-Star Race and the Coca-Cola 600 in the spring, and the Bank of America Roval 400. In addition, CMS holds two NASCAR XFINITY Series races, the Alsco 300 and the Drive for the Cure 250, as well as the North Carolina Education Lottery 200 in the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series. The speedway has a current seating capacity of 85,000, and in addition to the main course, the grounds feature a drag strip, a road course (the "Roval"), and a quarter-mile dirt track. From 1999 to 2009, CMS was also known as Lowe's Motor Speedway.
Charlotte Motor Speedway History
In the late 1950s, NASCAR driver Curtis Turner and racing promoter Bruton Smith teamed up to build Charlotte Motor Speedway after both made attempts to build a modern racecourse just outside of Charlotte, North Carolina. Joe Lee Johnson won the first race at the track, the World 600 on June 19, 1960. The first National 400 took place that fall and still takes place on the road course as the Bank of America Roval 400. In 1976 at Charlotte, Janet Guthrie became the first female competitor in a NASCAR Cup superspeedway race, finishing 15th in the World 500. In 1985, the inaugural The Winston took place, eventually evolving into the modern NASCAR All-Star Race.
Forty condominiums were built at CMS in 1984, making it the first sports facility in the United States to include this feature. A dozen additional condos were built in 1991, and lights were installed on the track the following year, making Charlotte Motor Speedway the first major course to allow for night races. The 2019 NASCAR Cup season was especially notable for CMS, with Kyle Larson taking the NASCAR All-Star Race, Martin Truex Jr. winning the Coca-Cola 600, and Chase Elliott claiming victory in the Bank of America Roval 400.

The race was exciting and breathtaking. Our seats were fantastic since we could see around the whole racetrack. It was our first night race as well and seeing it in person was freat. Tv doesn't give it as much excitement. I can't wait to go again.
Even though we had showers before the race started we enjoyed the vender tents and stayed dry. There was alot of stuff to see and do while we waited for the track gates to open. Race was an awesome event.
Had a great time... The view from Pit Lane is amazing. The staff that walked us down were very polite and just as excited as we were.
Being my first NASCAR race to attend I was anxious and thrilled at the opportunity to see before my eyes what I had only seen on TV. I had spoken with a few friends and family members about the do's and don't. I was prepared and blown away by the sheer massive sounds of the reved engines. It was amazing! It was incredible and can't wait for the next race in Charlotte!!
The allstar race is is awesome! I still call it the Winston because that's what it was when I first started going to races. The format for this race is the best. The Charlotte track is fast and has enough turns to make it interesting. This is the best race to go to!
the race was great, even better live than on TV. looking foreward to next year!!!
I would recommend going to the allstar race for first timers....Its always great to watch the big show under the lights on a saturday night...
Lowes Motor Speedway has their act together. Coming from Florida and experiencing the mess of Daytona International Speedway, Lowes is a joy. The event was fantastic.
great-made double file restarts a reality and put a real excitement that was not there in past all star races
Just ever thing that was in that day double file starts the fireworks the people that work there they were very helpful thanks again for a great day thanks Mr wilson
This is the second Sprint All Star Race we attended and it is by far one of the best races to go see. What makes it better is when one of your favorite drivers wins the race and you are there to see it.
At the Charlotte Motor Speedway..the one thing I could see that would improve the entire race....the people on the backside of the track cannot see driver introductions as there is no big screen to watch. And as the drivers are coming around the track ya can't see them because the lights are all off. Just two things that could be improved...otherwise...great event...especially since Tony Stewart won!!!!!!!!!
The seats were great. The Race was fun but it would have been better if it did not rain. Getting my tickets through Ticketmaster was wonderful.
The new format this year of 100 laps with the final 10 laps a bang up shoot-out will be hard to beat. This race is the perfect family gathering for the entire family young and old with loads of things to enjoy prior to the race. We sat about 100 yards after the finish line and collected some great action video. If a new race fan is skeptical about attending a race, we highly recommend "The All-Star Race" as their first. It is not just cars going in circles, it is a full team of 10 athletes per team that wins the race. The cars are the safest ever in Nascar history yet we agree with many, that "at 180+ mph inches apart in the turns, it takes not only a good driver, yet a very alert mindset that makes these drivers The Last Gladiators.
I had a great time, a little bad weather but by the time the race started the rain was gone. I will try to go next year
Pit passes are a waste of money. All you do is walk down concrete and look at the same thing you see on T.V. There were no drivers or pit crew to talk to. You couldn’t see cars or nothing. You would have a better time walking through home depots tool aisle.
It was a good race. Drivers were passing, wearing out tires and pushing those cars.
Was a great race. Glad Nascar took the idea of double file restarts from this race. Has made the racing better. As always the people at Lowes were fantastic.
Overall it was a great experience. We got to go into the pits and meet with some of the crew members.
