Charlotte Cardin In Concert
Canadian singer-songwriter Charlotte Cardin's sultry voice, unflinching lyrics, and brooding blend of pop, jazz, R&B, and electronica are making her a hot ticket on the touring circuit. But the willowy Québéc-bred talent was already turning heads before devoting herself to a career in music.
Born in Montreal in 1994, Cardin was a successful fashion model while still in high school. A singer throughout her life, she began writing songs as a teenager. In 2013, Cardin's passion and talent landed her a chance to compete on La Voix (the French-Canadian equivalent of TV's The Voice). She covered Amy Winehouse's "You Know I'm No Good," easily evoking the late British diva, and came in fourth place.
Her experience in the limelight encouraged Cardin to set aside her medical studies and pursue music as a career. After a few years of writing, vocal practice, and development of her unique personal style, Cardin released the EP Big Boy in 2016 and followed it a year later with the full album Main Girl, which added new songs to her EP's French and English tracks. This heady mix of brooding tunes and sophisticated electro-pop earned her Juno Award nominations for both Breakthrough Artist and Songwriter of the Year. Shot in Iceland, the emotionally wrenching "Main Girl" video has been viewed more than 10 million times.
Comfortable in front of both cameras and audiences, Cardin started touring seriously in 2016. She visited the United States with singer-songwriter Nick Murphy (formerly Chet Faker) and played sold-out shows supporting the gender-bending singer Børns.
Cardin's songs draw more from observation than from personal experience, she says, but she obviously has a knack for conveying the exquisite agony of unattainable love. Haunting tracks like "Dirty Dirty," "Big Boy," and "Like It Doesn't Hurt" (which includes a cameo from Montreal rapper Husser) escape pop pigeonholing entirely while still delivering memorable hooks. A talent to watch, Charlotte Cardin is more than ready for her close-up.
Beautiful venue, comfy seats, Charlotte sounded amazing and the lighting show was amazing.
What an amazing and talented artist. I love all of her music and would see her again over and over again!
Great talent! Great vibe! Took my husband who knew nothing about Charlotte’s music and he downloaded her music that night. Loved every minute!
An amazing voice and performance!!! Can’t wait to see her again
My third time seeing Charlotte Cardin live and the venue was beautiful but the show felt a bit short (70 minutes) and barebones. Not much production value, sets or lights. Which is perfectly fine but the price should reflect that frugalness. This was the most expensive and largest venue Charlotte performed in Toronto but perhaps it wasn't necessary if the show was going to be this short and sort of "unplugged".
Standing in the general admission section of Massey Hall was a true concert experience. Charlotte Cardin used that experience to give an unforgettable performance. I normally take great pleasure in watching the whole band, individually and collectively. She stole my attention for the whole concert. I tried to watch the others but I was drawn right back to her evocative performance. Her collected musical talents all shown through in many different songs. She is a giving performer.
I love Charlotte!! She’s so amazing live and gives a great show!!
Such a great evening! Great performer, generous, what a voice! The final was beyond expectations. Only one little comment : chorus instead of record for the back vocal!
Being a Charlotte C fan I expected a lot. Charlotte delivered way over and above. What a show! I've been a voracious concert goer for over 50 years; I've seen shows, ... the Doors, Zeppelin, Elton John ('72!) et al, through Bowie, Peter Gabriel, Dylan, Costello, English Beat, Eagles ('77), Springsteen (of course) ... and on and on and on. Point is, last Friday night Charlotte C leapfrogged them all into the top 3 concerts I've ever seen. Her emotion, energy, charisma, professionalism and immense talent broadcast itself throughout the Bell Centre. Thank you Ms C. Loved the show; respect and love to you.
My daughter and I had so much fun! The seats we picked were ok (almost all tickets were sold but we still were able to get good seats through Ticketmaster) and the show was great! We had an amazing time!
Excellent show. Incredible talent. Arrive early for entry to Place Bell.. big queues
And to make it more special she had very talented guests, one of my favorite Patrick Watson with whom she wrote a song
Had an amazing time at Charlotte Cardin's show last Sunday. She is an amazing performer and what a voice! The encore with Patrick Watson and Half Moon Run singer, Devon P, was absolutely breathtaking.
