The play was good. I felt the lead was reminiscient of Gene Wilder in the original movie. I found the squirrel scene w/Veruca Salt to be a bit dark. The oompa loompas were inventive but a bit creepy in my opinion as well. Great play overall though!

Rating: 4 out of 5by Anonymous on 10/11/18Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago Rating: 5 out of 5 Willy Wonka - SUPERB world of imagination!
by PrplPoet on 10/11/18Oriental Theatre Chicago - ChicagoThis is an all-time classic that appeals to the imagination of both children and adults alike. The cast performances of Willy Wonka, Charlie, Grandpa Joe, and the Oompa Loopas, were phenomenal. Each winning “golden ticket” character, especially Violet and Augustus, were humorous and entertaining. The set design of the candy castle tempted even the audience. Gather all your friends, family, and children for this play and enter an enjoyable world of imagination together.

Rating: 4 out of 5 Entertaining
by AppolloniaCapri on 10/10/18Oriental Theatre Chicago - ChicagoSurprisingly entertaining and very enjoyable. A darker take on the traditional Wonka show in the second half - could be unsuitable for small children. Very bright with great acting, dancing, singing and the oompa loompas were fabulous

Rating: 3 out of 5 Ok but not great.
by Revu4u on 10/10/18Oriental Theatre Chicago - ChicagoJust ok performances. Be prepared for a ton on audience talking, water bottle crunching and eating. Not a play I would recommend.

Rating: 3 out of 5 Charlie & the Chocolate Factory was just ok.
by Bingo1023 on 10/10/18Oriental Theatre Chicago - ChicagoMy husband & I love Willy Wonka & musicals, so we gave this a shot. Maybe if we had children it would have been more enjoyable. A talented cast for sure, but the show itself was just ok. Wouldn't recommend spending hard earned money on this show.

Rating: 4 out of 5 Charlie and chocolate factory not good
by Whyo3 on 10/9/18Oriental Theatre Chicago - ChicagoThe performances are fantastic, so much better than in the movies (but when aren't live performances better? ) The 1st act was slow and barely imaginative. The 2nd act a bit better. The oompa loompas saved the show. I was expecting more of the show as a whole. I was let down.
Rating: 5 out of 5by Anonymous on 10/9/18Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago The play was outstanding. The actor who played Willy Wonka and the actor who played Charlie were fantastic!
Rating: 3 out of 5 Willy Wonka Musical was Nice
by RPandCC on 10/9/18Oriental Theatre Chicago - ChicagoAlthough I thought the musical was nice, my partner and others around us were seemingly unimpressed. Apparently, the musical wasn’t close enough to the movie version for their tastes and my partner even left the auditorium 10-15 minutes before the end of the musical. I did find some of the scenery lacking at times. It seemed like there could/should have been more props on stage to infuse more interest and excitement. Overall it was an OK play, but definitely not Andrew Loyd Webber! As for the optional extra cost Suite Service, it was nice to get away from the crowd, but the food offerings were rather ordinary and non exciting. The best option was the friendly bartender with the unlimited bar and the attentive wait staff.
Rating: 5 out of 5 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was a treat!
by 52eyesblue on 10/9/18Oriental Theatre Chicago - ChicagoI took my 6 year old grandson for his birthday and he absolutely loved it! I enjoyed watching the changing expressions on his face as much as I enjoyed the show!
Rating: 4 out of 5 Creatively done!
by MomoSan on 10/9/18Oriental Theatre Chicago - ChicagoWe took our oldest grandkids to see Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. The set design was creatively done to replicate the story scenes. The kids (and grandparents!) were amused by the Oompa Loompahs! Needless to say the following day was spent watching both Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movies. And a return trip is in the making.
Rating: 5 out of 5 Not worth seeing
by Baaghi on 10/9/18Oriental Theatre Chicago - ChicagoThe venue is amazing. I love going to the Oriental Theatre because it’s big and the inside is stunning. Most plays I see there are worth going to, however, I don’t feel this one met my expectations. The acting was mediocre, the choreography lacked pizazz, and the best part of the play was the Oompa Loompas, which were dummy bodies that velcroed around the background dancers necks. The first half barely kept my attention to the point where I thought I’d fall asleep during the second half ( I could hear at least 3 people snoring around me). This was one of my favorite childhood movies and seeing it live didn’t excite me. This was really saddening. I hope the next play I see it better.
Rating: 5 out of 5 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a HIT
by Eaglesnest1835 on 10/9/18Oriental Theatre Chicago - ChicagoWe loved every minute of the show and found the production to be solid top to bottom. Stand out performances by Mike TV and Violet cast members. You will love how they treat Veruca Salt. All in family enjoyed.
