Hailed as a "must-see live performer" by Rolling Stone, and a "force to be reckoned with" by CMT, Charley Crockett crafts his singular "Gulf & Western" sound -- described as "very 21st century and very vintage" by NPR Music -- by synthesizing country, blues, soul, Cajun, R&B and other pieces of American Roots music. And when his voice comes out of your speakers, there is no confusing him for any other artist. As the Wall Street Journal writes, "Mr. Crockett's unique vocal style is one third Ernest Tubb honky-tonk with clipped-word diction, one third Bill Withers low-key, soulful crooning, and one third jazzy French Quarter second-line swagger."
With his latest album $10 Cowboy, Crockett didn't set out to make a themed record. He had released a concept album in 2022, the critically acclaimed The Man From Waco, propelling Crockett to new heights and establishing him as one of the leaders of a sparkling revival of traditional country and folk music.
For the follow up album, Crockett wrote freely, over a two-month period, as he wound his way across the United States on the back of a tour bus. The resulting songs--raw, personal, vivid portraits of a country in transition--ended up being connected after all.
"This material is written at truck stops, it's written at casinos, it's written in the alleys behind the venues, it's written in my truck parked up on South Congress in Austin," explains Crockett. "A ramblin' man like me, a genuine transient, is in a pretty damn good position to have something to say about America."
The album begins with the title track, a personal song that also offers a provocative idea about America. "A $10 Cowboy is a country singer who made himself on a street corner in America," Crockett says. "But the cowboy way, the cowboy mindset, that applies to anyone who doesn't feel free, who feels fenced in and bound to something."
As the album unfolds, you begin to understand that a $10 Cowboy is anyone who has hustled to get by, who didn't fit in, who has slept on other people's couches, or the street, who has fallen down, gotten up, and ventured from home chasing a paying gig, or a new start.
The album was recorded at Arlyn Studios in Austin, produced by Crockett and his long-time collaborator Billy Horton. It was recorded live to tape, with anywhere from 6-12 musicians on each track, giving the songs the feel of a live performance. It's a sound Crockett has been after for years. "The reason I cut it on tape is, when you get the right folks in the room, great players rise to the occasion. When that red light is on and the tape is rolling, you get the magic of a performance."
Crockett released his last full-length album The Man From Waco - which Rolling Stone named the #2 best Country album of the year - in 2022, and the momentum he built continued into 2023. Crockett made his NPR Tiny Desk debut, was a guest on The Daily Show, and appeared on the June 2023 cover of Texas Monthly. Crockett performed at both nights of Willie Nelson's 90th birthday celebration at the Hollywood Bowl in April 2023, and made his Bonnaroo debut last summer. Crockett also released The Man From Waco Redux, a companion to The Man From Waco featuring alternate versions of five songs, and Live from the Ryman, which documented Crockett's sold out November 2022 debut at the Mother Church of Country Music.

Changed the blanket policy with no obvious prior notice. 5 of us could bring 5 individual towels but one person bringing blanket for 3 to sit on prohibited. Makes no sense, wasn’t even sold out so plenty of space. Grass full of fire ants so that’s also great. Opener was no even closely related in music style, and felt like a Vegas act.
Solid show! He's got a great voice and a great band! Love the music and the venue was also excellent.
Charley and Lee Fields were on! 3 hours of pure entertainment!!
The concert was great and Charley Crockett put on an awesome show! The only complaint I have was the line to get in was a mess. It was very unorganized and after waiting for almost an hour, they finally decided to open more security lanes to let people through. We barely made it in time and totally missed the opening act. This will hopefully be corrected for future concerts.
Had a blast seeing Charley perform! Best concert I've been to in awhile! Makes me feel like I've gone back in time! Must see if haven't seen Charley yet!
Great venue, just seemed very oversold, there was NOT enough room for all those in attendance. Ushers constantly telling everyone to clear the walkways was annoying.
Charley Crockett put on a great show in Austin. Had a long setlist and interacted with the audience. His songs all tell a story and it’s nice to hear real country music again.
Music was really good including Charley’s set list and sound quality. Promoter should have had a few more ticket scanners and security screeners. Lines were way too long. Also, may have oversold a few too many tickets. Bathrooms were in bad shape. You should have an attendant assigned to the bathroom to make it is in good working order through out the show.
Charley puts on a great show. He has great songs and is very entertaining. The venue was good once you got inside. Not a fan of standing in line for 45 minutes to get into the venue though. Moody Amphitheater needs to figure that out.
Charley knows his way around the stage and delivers an incredible, interactive performance. Worth every penny!
The check bag line was 2 streets long (other entrances inexplicably closed), bathrooms were flooded, concession lines were ominous, viewing was cramped, and sound was mediocre.
Great show but unbelievably long line to get in the venue. Missed the opening act all together.
He put on a great show! My husband wasn’t very familiar with CC but he is a fan now! Also our first concert at 713 Music and I love the venue!
Charley and Vincent put on a fantastic show! Little Wolf’s Invincible Yellow Medicine Paint brought tears to my eyes. These two are fantastic writers and performers and you should see them any chance you get!
Every time I see Charley he's at a bigger venue. Great entertainer and impressive voice. Reminds me of a folk singer. Someone could go to a show without knowing one song and enjoy the show.
Charley was the ultimate showman. Combines old school and new school for a fantastic show!

I did not know who Charley Crockett was when my husband asked to go for his birthday. I am now a fan. Good show, great voice.
Charley Crockett put on a great performance. My husband is a fan of his music and I got us tickets for him an early birthday present. He enjoyed himself. The opening act Earny James was not our cup of tea.
My wife and I really enjoyed our first Charley Crockett show.
