I have attended multiple CATCO events. The more that I am seeing the less enthusiastic I have become. So many of the shows have only one or maybe three actors. As for Shipwrecked, several times I thought I was watching a high school performance. The supporting characters with the exception of some of the dog's antics were not terribly amusing. I did not see the original main actor, so I can't speak to his talents. I researched the play in advance. Rave reviews in other cities. A good review in our Dispatch. The play was intended to be 90 minutes with no intermission. Our play was 1 hour and 50 minutes. My guest were "dying" to use the restrooms and get a bottle of water. I will not be back for the rest of this season. I hope Steven Andersen finds better material for next year.
It was a great, quick-moving presentation. The period pieces and dress added, but the piece d'resistance was the actor who portrayed the dog and the Queen!
"Shipwrecked!", a one act three character (plus percussionist) play is the wonderful lively fun adventure that "Peter & the Starcatcher" (a similar play) should have been. But unlike "Peter" this show never has a dull moment or a false move that feels like filler. From the initial greeting to the final bow the story flows so naturally that there is never a second of boredom or restlessness. This two hour show moves so swiftly that when it finally reaches its somewhat ambiguous (but certainly not disappointing) conclusion it leaves you wanting to spend more time with these wonder characters and find where their future adventures might take them. CATCO has assembled a truly wonderful cast with seemingly unending talents. The two "assistants" play multiple roles, each so clear and spot on that you are never in doubt of who they are and where they fit in the story. Overall "Shipwrecked!", as presented by CATCO, is a truly wonderful journey into one mans past.
Very Creative! It was almost like a kids' play for adults. The actors did a wonderful job playing a variety of characters!
Our family enjoyed A Christmas Carol. The cast, especially the gentlemen who played Scrooge and his nephew (among other parts) were excellent! Great family time, thank you!
The play was amazing! The characters were fabulous and they was gorgeous!
I went with my 12 year old daughter; she's very shy so the theatre size made her very comfortable. The play itself was GREAT. The little quirky twists in the play were very appreciated by all ages. I loved the male actor that played various roles (was it Mr. Clemons?) we were star struck to say the least. Emily sang like an angel. I wish we could see it again.
The cast was excellent. The twist on the classic story of our times was very entertaining and refreshing. The venue is intimate and enables the audience to become engulfed in the storyline. Very we'll done! God Bless us Everyone!
The performance was outstanding. It touched on all emotions. The story was wonderful and the performers were great. I don't know the girl who sang a lot but she truly has a beautiful voice. Thank you. We had a great time.
Did not enjoy this performance of the play. A couple of strong talents...but not enough.. Treated a young couple to the show and they seemed to enjoy so mission accomplished there but.....
My girlfriends and I saw this show in Boston several years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. When we heard it was coming to Columbus, we decided it would be a fun "date night" with our husbands. My husband (not your biggest theater fan) was reluctant but willing to go along. I kept assuring him it would be worth it, and it was! (I love it when I'm right!). He later admitted to his golf partner that he thought "sitting through some dumb musical about a spelling bee would be torture, but it was hilarious!" All cast members were excellent, but we particularly enjoyed Japheal Bondurant as Wiliam Barfee. OMG, he was a riot! He's a rising star and I hope to be seeing more of him in bigger productions! Also, it was our first time at the Riffe Center. Studio One is an awesome venue, very intimate with no bad seats.
Characters were perfectly cast. Great performance as good as any Broadway production. Particularly liked Barfee, thought he was spot on the entire show.
I took my grandkids (10 &12) to it and thought it should have had a PG rating due to some of the language and parts of the show. When my grandson had to go to the restroom during the first act, the doors were locked and we had trouble getting back in. The show lasted over 2 hours not the 1 1/2 hours advertized. It was a good show for adults.
