    Loved the show

by KurtMN on 12/17/12Orpheum Theatre - Minneapolis

I really enjoyed the show. The music was great and the way the story was presented made it work. It helped to watch the movie first to get an understanding of the story.

by Lilosc on 12/16/12Orpheum Theatre - Minneapolis

The show was entertaining but not memorable and if it were to return another time I probably would not go. Also, Ticketmaster sent us a parking coupon which we assumed would be a good deal so we drove straight to that lot. As we were walking to the theatre we see a ramp that was $5 cheaper for the evening!

    Fun play, mediocre star

    by MD3K on 12/14/12Orpheum Theatre - Minneapolis

The play itself is fun and the music is too. The male lead was a good actor but his voice left a lot to be desired. It broke in the higher ranges and was flat. Orpheum is a great venue. the real person the play is based on answered questions afterwards and that was interesting. Glad I went but really question the casting.

We absolutely loved the movie and were not sure how it would be play out on the live stage. Bottom line: it was fantastic. The actors (particularly Frank, Jr. and the FBI agent who pursued Frank) did an amazing job. Also, we thought the music and lyrics were clever and the orchestra was terrific. Overall, this play far exceeded our expectations. Thank you for a wonderfully entertaining afternoon at the Majestic!

The way the live band was setup was different and worked really well. Also the projected scenery was very cool and tied everything in, and couldn't complain about the singing and acting.

Glad I got tickets half price

by theatergoer16 on 10/26/12Majestic Theatre San Antonio - San Antonio

My husband and I were disappointed with this show. I really like the movie version, but this seemed to be missing all the best parts. Most of the scenes were glossed over in a song. I still don't quite understand "Live in Living Color". Frank didn't go on to be a TV show host or anything, so I didn't really understand the connection to NBC they were making with the peacock graphics or that they even talked about TV at all other than a small link to Frank Sr. bringing home a TV at Christmas, but that is such a small/ one line part. Brenda's mom was waaaaay too out there with the "God Dang"s and hollering. Parts seemed like they made up songs and tried to push them into the show where they didn't belong. The scene with Carl singing in the hotel room seemed out of sequence. The entire show seemed very two dimensional. This is only the third show my husband has seen and he said he didn't know if it was just him, but we both agree that it was more like watching a screen than a stage production. It is obvious it is a fairly new show as there were plenty of slips in the choreography. The best part was the projection screen in the back.

Catch Me if You Can was High Energy!

by MrsCinderella on 10/26/12Majestic Theatre San Antonio - San Antonio

An excellent production! It was fun and you went away wanting to DANCE! But it touched on some serious subjects too. Knowing it was based on a true story made me want to go home and research the main character Frank Abagnale Jr.

Fun, cute musical--Catch it if you can!

by TheRonsWifey on 10/26/12Majestic Theatre San Antonio - San Antonio

Catch Me If You Can is fun, lighthearted show. Good for a night out with your favorite musical fan. My understanding is that this version has been updated from the original Broadway production that had a limited run. Most of the show is pretty fast paced and the production is bright, the songs catchy.

    Catch Me If You Can

by RichardPaul on 10/23/12The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - Memphis

I am not normally a fan of stage musicals outside of film, but it is very refreshing to have a production not only meet, but exceed, the expectations one has for it. The musical 'Catch Me If You Can' provided a highly enjoyable theatre experience. Based on the widely popular 2002 Dreamworks Motion Picture of the same name, the production told the story of Frank Abagnale, Jr., a teenager-turned-conman, and Carl Hanratty, the FBI Agent who hunted him. Using a healthy mixture of music and dance, the show delivered an upbeat, entertaining, and comedic performance while successfully conveying an emotional narrative that was as sad as it was happy. The actors and actresses played their roles enthusiastically, and the sets were ingenious. Also, the Orpheum Theatre in downtown Memphis provided a pleasant atmosphere in which to view the production. From the beginning, the mood of the musical was that of a sixties variety show complete with a band, and a host accompanied by sexy women. The opening number, 'Live In Living Color,' was fun and powerful, and served as an excellent introduction to the style of music used throughout the rest of the production. The band was very good, featuring a keyboard, a guitar, trumpets, a trombone, a bass, and drums. The dance numbers featured with the music were performed flawlessly by several supporting dancers alongside the main actors and actresses. The dance routines were energetic and precise, while remaining fresh and non-repetitive during the length of the production. In addition to this, one particular detail stood out to me: the synchronization of the performers. Within each routine, the dancers retained a certain harmony and fluidity that was very appealing, and the timing of each movement seemed perfectly synchronized. This enhanced the entertainment value significantly, and accentuated the professional quality of the production overall. The sets used during the show were clever and unique. They were also uncomplicated, and were rarely made up of more than a backdrop and a single set piece, such as a bed, desk, or a table and chairs. The backdrops themselves were simple and stylized in the manner of sixties pop art. Only one set piece remained on the stage for the entire production. In the very back, a ramp shaped like a wave stretched from the left to the upper right of the stage. It was utilized the entire time, with actors and actresses walking, running, or even dancing across it. The band itself was set upon the ramp, leaving just enough room for the performers to use it as well. The sets were rolled out quickly and easily with each scene transition, and there were no complications throughout the entire musical. There was also a giant screen behind the stage that displayed various images during the musical. In addition to the sets, the lighting was pleasantly utilized. Standard strobe and spotlighting was used for musical numbers, and overhead lights were used for narrative scenes. Color was used differently for every scene, and worked alongside the lighting to emphasize different moods within the narrative. Color was also used during the musical numbers, adding a certain flashy, technicolor sixties-style theme to each performance. In addition to all this, the costumes used for the performers were very appropriate for the times. The women, specifically, wore very tight-fitting costumes, indicative to the pop-culture view of women in the sixties. The costumes used certainly added to the setting of the sixties. Altogether, the sets, backdrops, lighting, and costumes worked together nicely, and successfully created a believable setting for the production. The Orpheum Theatre's proscenium-style house also made for a pleasant viewing experience. My guest and I sat in the upper gallery cheap seats and still managed to become immersed in the performance. Because of this, one can accurately state that the stage space was appropriate for this production. The only problem was that I had trouble seeing the giant screen at the back of the stage at certain times, but it did not take away from the overall enjoyment of the musical. Lastly, without the enthusiastic and energetic performance of the actors and actresses, the musical would be worthless. Thankfully, they played their roles amazingly well, making the musical the success that it is. Two perfect examples of this are the main characters, Frank Abagnale Jr. and Agent Carl Hanratty, played by actors Stephen Anthony and Merrit David Janes, respectively. The character of Frank had to be a tricky one, to be sure: an actor playing a kid acting like other men sounds like a challenge, but Stephen Anthony pulled it off. His performance was believable and passionate, and his musical talent was even better. He could sing phenomenally well, and he showcased his vocal skill throughout the musical with solos and grand choruses. I can attribute the same quality of performance to the character of Carl, played by Merrit David Janes. His character is also very conflicted, like Frank, and Merrit accurately conveyed the sadness and personality of his character. In addition to this, Merrit displayed significant musical talent as well, and like Stephen, adequately displayed this talent throughout several musical numbers. The last number of the play, 'Strange But True,' featured a duet with the two, and besides the opening number, made for my favorite piece. In the end, 'Catch Me If You Can' was worth every penny that was paid for it. The music was phenomenal, energetic, and fun. The dancing had us tapping our feet, amazed and entertained. The sets were dreamy and believable, and the lights shined bright like a true Broadway production. The theatre was comfortable and the atmosphere was perfect. At different moments the house filled with laughter and cheers, and sometimes, solemnity and silence ruled the room. The actors performed their roles with professionalism and passion, and sung their parts with skill and precision. If there was anything more I could say, I would say it. This production was beautifully complex, and yet simple. The musical has been nominated for four Tony awards and six Drama Desk awards in 2011. In truth, 'Catch Me If You Can' was a unbelievably extraordinary experience, and one that I'm sure I will not forget anytime soon.
