love watching Scarlett live.. but the entire cast were incredible!!
Great job of acting by all, Ciaran Hinds was terrific as Big Daddy, and Debra Monk was great as Big Mama! Ben Walker did a great job playing the troubled drunk husband. Scarlett Johansson lit up the stage with her Awesome performance as Maggie the "cat"....HOT! An "A" list movie star and a "A" on the broadway stage!
I have always enjoyed the original movie version of this play and this production easily lived up to the original movie, as well as my high expectations. A great job by all of the actors. The play was moving and memorable.
Scarlett Johannson is beautiful to view but her performance was only average. Her southern drawl is not realistic and given the poor accoustics of the theatre, most people were looking at each other trying to understand what she had just said. Only a few of the actors projected well enough to forbay amplification. Additionally, the show is slow and very dated. I've seen the show twice before but it is not a show for the 21st century. I'm glad I purchased the least expensive seats as I was able to move to prime seats given the theatre was only 1/2 full. If I had to do it again, I wouldn't.
Went into show with no expectations. Was drawn to show by Johansson, but was equally impressed by other performances.
I walked in not knowing what to expect. All I knew, I was so excited to see Cat on a Hot Tin Roof I showed-up at the front door a day earlier. My tickets were for the Saurday night performance yet I showed up - after inviting a friend - on Friday night instead, Lol! Luckily, there were two seats available and the Box Office kindly reprinted our tickets for that night. Aja and I got to see this amazing show without delays ! 'They' say there are no coincidences in this world, no kidding !!! It was worth flying out from San Francisco just to see that show. What a way to kick off my short stay in NYC. It was an powerful experience. I loved the cast, the plot, the settings, and just about everything else that went along with it that night. I am not gonna carry on and on ... I wish on the way out the Box office was open. I would have tried to buy my Saturday night tickets back just in case I missed a line or two. Oh well, someone else got to enjoy it too ! If you have not seen it yet HURRY and buy your limited seats - it will be over March 30 and the clock is ticking... Enjoy every minute ! It was a night to remember for me. Besides the fact I truly related to it from past experiences ... Both thumbs up !!!
Thought everyone was extremely professional and convincing in their roles, including Brick, despite some earlier reviews! There was laughter, tears and wonderful drama! I was thouroghly entertained for 3 hours! .......on a side note, one thing I did find slightly distracting was how thin the material of Bricks pajama pants were! Did not leave a lot to the imagination, but I was in the third row so maybe it wasn't so noticible further back!........or maybe it was just me lol!!
This was great! Scarlet johansen as Maggie was spectacular. We had great seats and got our tickets easily on line. We enjoyed our weekend in NYC! The cat was definitely the high light!
Amazing performance by Scarlet Johannson!!! The rest of the cast was wonderful, too.
Though the reviews have been mixed, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof is intensely satisgying. Scarlett J's Maggie commands the stage presence required of Maggie. Big Mama, Big Daddy and Brick deliver! The staging most criticized serve up as a fantastic backdrop to some of Tennessee Williams most acclaimed play. Bravo!
COAHTR was smart, funny and sexy. The characters were intriguing. The only woman in the theater hotter than Scarlett was my wife, Bec!
The actors were outstanding, and brought incredible intensity to this single-set, 3 act play. Scarlett intentionally toned downed the "hotness" of her character, and played emotion instead of pure sex very well. A long play, but worth the time.
Great performance! Great acting by all. Scarlett gave her best self, and so did everyone else
the "southern" accents were just awful. Scarlet did not have stage presence Everything took place in the bedroom, scene changes should have been made. Was extremely disappointed with this production.
Wed matinee had the regular cast. Tennesse Williams plays (I love all of his work) have a lot of dialog and the openning scene with the wife ragging on and on can be tedious, but it all comes together in a great and entertaining drama at the end. Great acting all around except nobody had Southern accents, even some foreign audience members commented about that! Sat several rows from stage, recommend no closer as first row is below the stage and definitely too close! Seats really small and ok but not comfortable. Most of the actors were collecting donations after the play for an AIDS charity and you could talk to them. A very friendly atmosphere in the theatre, staff was really friendly, didn't expect that for New York City! I think they treat their staff fairly well at the Richard Rodgers. They used a very simple and quite low budget stage setup and modest sound effects, which was probably okay for this play.
based on the mixed reviews, I wasn't sure what to expect. I couldn't have asked for more. Scarlett was overwhelming. The first 45 minutes was really all her. I was captivated. Act 2 was mostly Brick and Big Daddy with marvelous exchanges between the two. Act 3 just bristled and came to a dramatic conclusion. Bravo to all. There was a standing ovation at the end of the performance
This performance was OK, but lacked the engagement that I have seen in earlier productions. Scarlett Johansson (Margaret) spoke her lines way to fast and lacked the sultriness that Margaret needed. Ben Walker (Brick) was a great semi-functioning alcoholic. Ciaran Hinds (Big Daddy) and Debra Monk (Big Mama) were fantastic. The sound in the theatre was equally lacking. I was in Orchestra Row R, tucked under the upper level with a speaker just above me and either it was not working or the actors were not miked. This coupled with Scarlett Johansson’s rapid delivery, many lines were missed. I wish I had saved my money for a different show.
Not worth the money, a little boring and hard to understand accent
What a disappointment. So excited to see the show and usually love Scarlett Johanssen in everything but this show left me flat. The cast did not seem to bound and the relationships seemed strained and unbelievable. Actually fell asleep at one point. Was devastated that there was a third act.
The volume wasn't loud enough. Scarlett's accent was so heavy we couldn't understand half the words she was saying. We were going to leave in the first act but stayed till the second act was over. Our mistake.
