    Blown Away

by cleebo on 2/20/12Library of Congress - Washington

This was an amazing concert. They are superb instrumentalist and vocalists. An added bonus of this event was that the band was able to talk about how they research and discover old music and styles of playing. There is not another group out there like the Carolina Chocolate Drops. Don't miss them if you have the chance to see them.

    Truly a national treasure!

by jdowney3 on 2/20/12Library of Congress - Washington

The members of this quartet are so talented and personable, and their mission-preserving music of our American ancestors that might otherwise disappear--is so worthy, that they deserve every accolade that I can imagine. They are historians as well as highly trained musicians, and presenting the fruits of their research, much of it seemingly done in the very building that they performed in, was a perfect showcase for just how bankrupt the thinking is of people who would begrudge the government's funding this kind of enterprise. This is the kind of thing that makes me proud of the federal government, which the Library of Congress is a part of. A totally awesome performance in a grand historic setting--perfect!

    Great music and educational event

by JBVA on 2/20/12Library of Congress - Washington

This band is a lot of fun, not only because they are great musicians, but due to their passion and devotion to the history and foundations of the music they perform. Seeing/hearing old instruments that aren't common today was a real treat, enhanced by the anecdotes that accompanied them. Dom's energy was palpable; Rhiannon's voice moved me to tears on Leaving Eden. It was very interesting to hear how the various members of the group have utilized and been inspired by the collections of the Library of Congress. A great melding of history and contemporary music.

    Full tilt stomp with CCD

    by n2eclectic on 12/9/11Variety Playhouse - Atlanta

Another fantastic performance by the Carolina Chocolate Drops! Great attitudes, good sense of humor, and wonderful musicianship led to a delightful time! The Variety Playhouse was a perfect venue for this show because it allowed the Drops to feed off the crowd. I'd do it again in a heartbeat and I flew from DC just for this show!

    simply ahhhhhh...mazing!

by avettdarling on 8/23/11Oregon Zoo - Portland

love, love, love them!!!! the show was amazing, great space...but make sure you get there before 5pm, so you can grab some green space in the lower section in front of the paved section, because otherwise, there are people who stand along the paved section, making it IMPOSSIBLE to see anything that is happening down on the stage! bummer! also....bring those low-lying chairs, because a ton of people use them, and again....if you don't have one of your own, you'll not be able to see anything either! but....this venue is super amazing! you can bring your cameras....you can bring your own food...just no beverages...and the food THERE is actually amazing! altogether, an amazing show, an amazing venue....everything was delicious! p.s. we actually WENT for the be good tanyas (the openers), and lucked out with LOVING the main show!! yay!!!!!

Great event! We looked forward to the Chocolate Drops but felt super lucky to have the chance to hear the Be Good Tanyas, as well! Visitor from out of town was really impressed with the venue and the two groups!

    Chocolate Drops were outstanding

by Leighanna on 8/22/11Oregon Zoo - Portland

An unforgettable evening! But the Be Good Tanyas were a very disappointing opening act...the Chocolate Drops more than made up for a very amateur performance by the Tanyas

    Dance ants in my pants.

by EvilJungle on 8/21/11Oregon Zoo - Portland

This show was fantastique! The weather, location, music, and crowd all combined their powers to create a wonderful night that made smiles and wiggling inevitable. The lawn was nice, soft, & dry...and people were respectful with regards to not putting up chairs/objects that would impede the view for the people behind them. The Carolina Chocolate Drops rocked the heck out. Real talent. My only qualm: I wish the Be Good Tanyas had played a longer set. I love them; they are so lovely.
