Awesome! An unbelievable night. This is my second time seeing them and they just get better and better. So much talent in four people. Love them.
The CCD exceeded my expectations....each member of the group is so very talented, high energy and in sync with each other. They were all multi-instrumental, and all very proficient on each instrument. Rhianna has the voice of an angel!
It's hard to combine a band with a definite message and just plain fun, but that is the Carolina Chocolate Drops. Great music that has definite roots presented in an entertaining--not preachy--way.
The Carolina Chocolate Drops are amazing! They can play multiple awesome instruments and sing everything from Soul, Bluegrass, Jazz to Irish Gaelic it's amazing. They work together beautifully as a team but the shining star is the lead singer. She has the most amazing voice and the sweetest stage presence and really likes to draw the audience in. They were having fun and sounded great while doing it! I just can't do justice to the lovely ladies range of musical talents! All I can say is go see them!!! You will not be disappointed you'll only leave wishing the set could be even longer!!
Everything about Carolina Chocolate Drops was PERFECT except the warm up act. They play w-a-y too long. Mediocre lead-in. More of the main act, less of the ones we didn't pay to see.
We have been to 3 events by the Carolina Chocolate Drops. It's gets better & better. every time! My Husband & I have driven over 500 miles to see them. Best old time, Bluegrass music ever!
The group is talented, interacts with audience well, has great showmanship with wonderful voices and instrumentation.
If you ever get a chance to see the Carolina Chocolate Drops, don't hesitate: get those tickets immediately. You've never seen anything like them and you never will again. They play songs that have been handed down for generations with their own modern twist. They feature banjos, fiddle, cello, guitars and a variety of period instruments thrown in. Each player is a virtuoso on whatever he or she happens to be playing at the time. You don't even have to be a fan of traditional arrangements of classic songs; you will be a fan after seeing the Chocolate Drops. I never wanted their concert to end. The Variety Playhouse is an intimate setting for musicians like this and I guarantee you won't be disappointed if you get to see them.
The Carolina Chocolate Drops exceeded my expectations as a group of musical entertainers. As musicians they played a multitude of instruments with amazing skill. As entertainers they engaged the audience in a real and direct manner. I left with a wonderful uplift.
This was my first CCD event and it was awesome. Not only was it entertaining, it was also educational as they gave the history of the songs they played. The best thing about them is that they love what they do. They were there to have fun and it was up to you to have fun if you wanted. They had great interaction with the audience too, involving them in the performance. As well, I talked my friend into coming with me, who never had a good opinion of Bluegrass, and her opinion has changed. She said, "It wasn't what I thought it was. It was good and I truly enjoyed it."
The vocals, musicianship and enthusiasm the three players bring to these songs is quite amazing. I often ask myself what brings players to this type of music? Because these three are keeping songs from a bygone era alive. I was also quite blown away by the support shown the band with an enthusiastic sold out house at Variety. There is such an appreciation for the roots of blues and country in Atlanta. Bands like the Drops, Old Crow and Avett Brothers get huge support from this town. And for music you would say is so far out of the main stream that it could not be popular. It was fantastic night of acoustic playing and great singing.
Loved the variety of music and instruments and the old time sounds. Everything from Hit'em Up Style a modern R&B hit, to old time song, Milwaukee Blues!
I have told several people since attending this concert Saturday night, that this was quite possibly one of the BEST concerts I have ever attended! For sheer musicality and musical talent . . . there are fewer better than the Carolina Chocolate Drops.
Maybe the best representation of traditional Americana music I've ever seen. Anyone who loves "roots" music should check out the Carolina Chocolate Drops & the Brass Kings!
Both bands where amazing and fun to watch, The Chocolate drops played a lot of different style of folk and americana music.
Saw this group for the first time love at the Minnesota Zoo outdoor amphitheater. The energy between audience and Carolina Chocolate Drops was palpable. This is what live music should be. They are very talented. They say they are traditional music with a modern flair. I agree and would add that it is just plan fun music!
A beautiful night, great venu and fantastic music from the CCD at the Minnesota Zoo. I don't really listen to blue grass/folk but I could be converted by this group. I had a great time!
This was our second time seeing the Chocolate Drops in concert and it was even better than the first. Our six friends who came with and had not seen them before were utterly amazed at the music and skill of the group, even one of the friends who isn't much of a music appreciator. We would see them again in a heart beat. It seems they have continued to evolve with a diversity in their music but without sacrificing quality or fun. I would like to see them back at the Zoo every year.
These people all sing beautifully, play multiple instruments and connect with their audience throughout their offerings of historically meaningful and downright fun folk music and blue grass. They are amazing.
This concert was awesome. The Chocolate Drops were full of that good old time energy as you expect them to be. We had another great night at the Birchmere. Thank you Chocolate Drops.
