The stage, the customs, the performance! Bravo, bravisimo!!
We were all so excited to be taking our seven year old grandson to see the Nutcracker for his first time, we took his father several years when he was growing up. It was a tradition! We had prepared him for the story and what he would be seeing. First, what happened to the beautiful mansion with chandeliers in a Victorian city? It was replaced by a log cabin!! The childrens traditional dolls and drums were replaced with baseball bats and gloves! “Give me a break”! Clara and the nutcracker were way too young! Clara’s role is a dancing one. What happened to Mother Ginger and the Cossack dancers? Several other scenes were missing but the new update d ones were so “Woke” that it was an embarrassment for the Carolina Ballet! Some of the dancers were wonderful, while others seem to have lost their timing and way! As usual the music was beautiful and inspiring and the orch astra was more than adequate. Please, please bring back the beautiful and “traditional” production. Next year we’ll be sure to find a production that sticks to the tradition of the ballet!
My 20th year attending the Carolina Ballet's Nutcracker! My daughter and I have attended the production each year since she was in kindergarten. This year she was honeymooning in Europe and I went to the Nutcracker alone - but I still loved everything about the Carolina Ballet's Nutcracker. The changes in the show were surprising and fun. Some changes will take time to get used to but in general the new sets, props and costumes were wonderful. I missed seeing Mother Hubbard but the little chef children were adorable. The magic is always a fun touch. The dancers were amazing. The North Carolina Symphony was outstanding. I'm so proud to call the Carolina Ballet "my ballet company". The Nutcracker has the power to bring wonder and joy year after year.
Unfortunately, the performances seemed very amateurish. With the exception of the lead dancers, the back up dancers were always out of sync. Don't think I'll be back
The Nutcracker has always been a family tradition during the holidays. This year I will have to say the performance was not was it has been on the past. It resembled a good PTO school performance rather than a professionally choreographed ballet. I was definitely let down.
This was our first ballet. They all did a beautiful job. Such a fun experiance. The amount of work they go through to do such a good job doesn't go unnoticed.
Couldnt go... and they would not allow resale of my tickets.... won't get any more business from me.
The whole experience was fantastic. The music was beautiful. The dancing was spectacular. Facilities were amazing. We definitely plan to make this a yearly tradition!
NC Symphony was wonderful and the on stage performance of The Nutcracker by the Carolina Ballet was outstanding! The Sugar Plum Fairy was danced as beautifully as anything I have ever seen. Would highly recommend.
From the convenient parking to the ticket scanner to the best seats. Everything was great!!! We truly enjoyed all the performers. The orchestra was fantastic. Lots of people come together to put on a wonderful production. Thank you for bringing The Nutcracker to Raleigh.
I loved the Second Act. The addition of kids in the Tea dance was lovely. Missed Mother Ginger I thought the party scene was a little slow. The costumes were stunning. I especially liked all the tiaras.
This was the second time in 11 years that we attended the performance. It was better than anticipated and thoroughly enjoyed by us! The performers were extremely professional and the orchestra superb.Staff members were friendly and cordial.
“When the Sugar Plum Fairy came out, my eyes turned to hearts.” Wyatt, age 5
Every year we do an "Event" as part of our Holiday Celebrations. This year I took family members to The Nutcracker. It was the first time to a ballet for the 6 and 9 years old grandsons. Both boys paid avid attention to the dancing story as they described it to me. Only downer for them is the younger children did not come out at the final curtain . . at least not in costumes they recognized. Both boys were impressed at the strength and balance all the dancers needed. In fact they asked their mother if they could learn . . . not a bad result to seeing their first ballet!
I vehemently applaud the collective wisdom and professionalism of The Carolina Ballet!!! SUPPORT THE ARTS!
Loved every minute of the performance, from the music to the sets and the performers. Such a wonderful venue and performance. It’s become a family tradition to attend the Nutcracker every December.
First time watching them and it was really good. Only thing is i felt they didnt have enough staff at the intermission. The lines to get drinks and treats were all over the place and people were cutting and clogging the halls.
This event was perfect! We had great seats and the artists were perfection!
The ballet is not what I expected. It seems like an above average recital or a below average professional experience. The choreography was catered towards the children, music was wonderful, lovely set, costumes seemed second rate.
