CARNIFEX IN CONCERT:

San Diego deathcore favorites Carnifex took their name from the latin word for "butcher", and fans at their bone-crunching live shows will have no trouble seeing why. The band's decibel-shattering sound recalls legendary groups like Dying Fetus, Dark Funeral, and Slayer, and their epic live shows live up to the comparisons, whipping fans into a frenzy with an aggressive onslaught of sonic mayhem. Leading the charge is frontman Scott Lewis, whose guttural growls are perfectly accompanied by Shawn Cameron's pummeling drums, Fred Calderon's heavy bass lines, and Jordan Lockrey and Cory Arford's razor sharp guitar riffs. It all adds up to a raw, intense live experience that leaves ticket buyers thoroughly rocked and ready for more.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Deathcore band Carnifex was formed in San Diego in 2005 by vocalist Scott Lewis and drummer Shawn Cameron. The following year they released their debut EP Love Lies in Ashes, which earned them a record deal with underground label This City Is Burning Records. They made their full-length debut in 2007 with Dead In My Arms before inking a deal with Chicago-based Victory Records. After touring extensively with bands like Emmure, Whitechapel, and MyChildren MyBride, and bringing crowds to venues like the Summit in Denver to capacity, Canifex released their sophomore album, 2008's The Diseased and the Poisoned, a Top 20 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart. After two more albums -- 2010's Hell Chose Me and 2011's Until I Feel Nothing -- they announced an indefinite hiatus and played three farewell shows in California at the end of 2012. But it wasn't the end for the band -- Carnifex returned in full force in 2014 with their fifth studio album Die Without Hope.

  • Very nice night of deathcore

    by DenverMetalhead178 on 7/26/25Summit - DenverRating: 5 out of 5

Very cool show. Bands were great, venue was awesome. Short merch lines, well placed and out of the way, friendly staff. Security at the front handed out water and earplugs

  • faute de mieux

by Moulage on 7/19/25Mercury Ballroom - LouisvilleRating: 4 out of 5

Great energy from the opening act (Monochromatic Black). Wished they had played longer. Body Box left much to be desired, so I left. Returned for Distant, which over-impressed. Suffocation were phenomenal: there’s a reason I saw them 30 years ago in France and why I was not disappointed on Tuesday. Crisp, tight. Best act of the night. Carnifex started sluggishly but came together midway through their set. All in all, a solid night—and much preferable to seeing Primus, who also played in Louisville that night.

  • Not my kind of music but had a blast with my sons

    by old_dad on 7/11/25The Underground - CharlotteRating: 5 out of 5

I agreed to take my son to this show and his older brother joined us. I can listen to pretty much anything but I have to admit that I do not share my son's love of death metal. Having said that, the show was awesome. The Underground in Charlotte was the perfect venue for this kind of show. Seeing it live was really impressive. No, Suffacation and Carnifex aren't going to make it on my Spotify playlist but I do have a new found respect (kind of brings me back to seeing Judas Priest but a whole lot faster and maybe a lot harder to decipher😁) Great job to the bands for bringing it hard and you could tell they love what they do and also to the Underground, a really cool venue.

  • Carnifex never disappoints!

    by ProgSlayer777 on 10/26/22TempleLive Wichita - WichitaRating: 5 out of 5

This tour was fantastic. I hadn’t heard of Crown Magnetar or Left to Suffer. But those were perfect bands to get this tour started. Carnifex never disappoints with their performance and who they bring out with them. The venue was also perfect for this show.

Every single band on the lineup; Carnifex, spite, oceano, left to suffer, crown magnetar, they all kicked ass. I had an awesome time. Much needed experience. Crowd was great, bands were awesome. Beer prices were too much but whatever
