About Camping World Kickoff
The Camping World Kickoff is college football's way of saying hello. Held on opening weekend in Orlando's Camping World Stadium — formerly known as the Citrus Bowl — the game is the leftmost bookend to the season, with two prominent teams playing on a neutral site in a bowl-like atmosphere.
College football has a way of making novelties seem like long-standing traditions. So it is with the Camping World Kickoff, which debuted in 2016 with a shootout between the No. 4 Florida State Seminoles and the No. 11 Ole Miss Rebels. The Seminoles rallied from 22 points down thanks to the arm and legs of their redshirt freshman quarterback, Deondre Francois. After a year off, the Kickoff returned in 2018 with the No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide, the defending national champions, routing the Louisville Cardinals, 51-14.
If the game feels like it's always been around, that might have something to do with the Depression-era stadium. Owned and operated by the city of Orlando, Camping World Stadium is one of college football's classic venues, occasionally maligned but reliable and home to a lot of memorable football, Monster Jams, soccer and even cameos in the TV series Coach. Built in 1936 under the auspices of the Works Progress Administration, what was then called Orlando Stadium had a stadium capacity of 8,900. As college football grew, so did the stadium. By the end of the century, the Florida Citrus Bowl, as it was known, was a fully modern, 65,000-capacity facility. It got another series of upgrades and, in 2016, a new name. Today, Camping World Stadium visitors will find clean sightlines and plenty of tailgating opportunities near the stadium.
Very hot and not enough seats in shade before gates opened. Water and food expensive.
Nice stadium, poor third party ushers. Park by Gate F waited outside of gate to enter our private party at 4:00. Came time for gate to open and they did not have the key. So after 20 minuets they said this gate will remain closed. Had to walk all the way around on my bad foot. Bad management.
His routine is expanded from his YouTube weekly ballgame reviews and funny from beginning to end.
The stadium was nice and clean. Decent seats ushers helpful. Had trouble with my phone showing the tickets the employee was very helpful. Someone had our seats the usher was very polite and efficient about handling the situation as well. The only thing was when it rained very hard there are leaks in the roof even when we were inside and we still got wet but not as bad as if we were outside.
Got great seats at great prices. Can’t wait fir the next game vs Miss. State. Go Dawgs
The overall atmosphere of the game was great, Bama won!!! The was very little assistance from the staff for handicapped guests. The fan fest was not at all what we are use to. Very few vendors and not a lot of variety of booths. Too many fans having their own tailgating activities in the middle of the fan fest. It was not easy navigating around the stadium
I attended the Alabama vs Louisville game with my brother. The stadium was easy to get to and out tickets were affordable. We’ll definitely be back for the NFL Pro Bowl in Jan 2019. Roll Tide!
When we ordered our parking permit for the Jones High School lot, we were told there would be a shuttle service from there to the stadium and back before and after the game. The shuttle was a 6 seater golf cart. As best I could tell there was only one to service hundreds of fans over the 4-5 blocks from the stadium. There were 4 of us, and one needed a cane to walk. After about 30 minutes I managed to get her onto a cart to get to the stadium. The rest of us had to hire private rickshaws even though we had paid the high price for the permit that was supposed to include a shuttle ride. After the game, the same problem presented itself. Plus, for some incomprehensible reason, we and the crowd were herded away from Gate C, which was the exit closest to our car. For these reasons, including only warm drinks at concession stands and a virtually inaudible PA system, this was one of the poorest organized events I have ever attended.
Not many food options inside the stadium. Ran out of food before the game was over. Not allowed to keep the lid to my drink bottle. Did not have any iced drinks...only bottled. Sound system kept going in & out. Couldn’t hear anything the ref was saying.
Not too fond of the location of the stadium. The area looked sketchy.
Overall, it was a great experience, except that the tickets by purchase were mobile only, and since I was with a group - it made it difficult if we left out seats... And since cell reception coverage wasn't the best, what would have happened if i couldn't have gotten to the app. Also, the venue is great for football, however, the layout and the access to get to the end zone seats are not very well laid out... Besides that, it was a good time...
Great event during the game. The Camping World Stadium needs to do much better job not blocking way out. Could not go back the way we went in very confusing and if you have issues walking make sure you park on the side you sit!
Venue and concert were both great. Talent lineup was extraordinary with Skynyrd, Kid Rock and Jason Aldean. Could have done without the rain.
My mom turns 85 next month and she was born and raised in Alabama and has always been an Alabama fan but this is her first game! She was so excited and the best part was not only the game for her but sitting right next to the Million Dollar band which she totally enjoyed. Our seats were great… I do want to give a shout out to the nice lady that gave mom and I ride in the cart closer to the Uber area. Although, I do have to say at that time of the night we were a little scared walking that far and then trying to catch our driver and not get run over. So except for that I would’ve given the venue an amazing rating.
Camping World Stadium is an awesome place to watch a college football game. Unfortunately, the long lines for security were very inadequate and the powers-to-be need to look at other security processes to get paying fans into the stadium in a more efficient manner.
This was the second time I have been to this venue for a game. The first one was in 2011 for a bowl game. There has been minimal improvements to this stadium. At both events, the concessions ran out of food. This time before halftime, they were out of most foods and had limited selection for drinks remaining. Even though I live about two hours from this venue I would rather drive to Atlanta and watch the Tide Roll.
Basically feels like a camping world infomercial with a little football mixed in. Flooded tailgate areas lead to unorganized cattle call entry points. Only redeeming quality was the polite and smiling nature of the stadium vendors/ employees. The small run down stadium isn't the only reminder of the 80's ... the cell service took you right back to your youth as well. Nothing like "no service" mocking you as the two high school quality video boards encourage the crowd to tweet out camping world hashtags. Place is fit for Friday night football but Saturday and Sunday crowds overwhelm this venue.
I love having my tickets on my phone.there was no second guessing where the tickets
The rain caused some confusion at the gates. The vendors ran out of drinks and food. There were not enough vendors to handle the crowd. The renovation seemingly made the seats skinnier. Overall Camping World Stadium seemed as if it wasn't prepared for a crowd that big.
It was awesome. Parking was easy. The shuttle downtown was cool. The game was great. The view from our seats was good too. I'd go again.
