Calgary Wranglers History

The Calgary Wranglers are a professional hockey team in the American Hockey League (AHL). The Wranglers trace their founding back to the Maine Mariners in 1977, but after several moves throughout the years, the Stockton Heat relocated to Calgary and were renamed the Calgary Wranglers ahead of the 2022–2023 AHL season. The name change itself was notable for reviving the same moniker as the former local Western Hockey League team, who played in Calgary from 1977 to 1987. In their inaugural AHL season, the Wranglers led the league in wins and regular season points, the latter of which earned the team the Macgregor Kilpatrick Trophy.

Calgary Wranglers at Scotiabank Saddledome

The Calgary Wranglers moved into downtown Calgary’s Scotiabank Saddledome following the team’s relocation to Stampede City in 2022. Despite its relatively new occupants, the Scotiabank Saddledome is no stranger to hockey, having hosted the NHL’s Calgary Flames since its opening in 1983 as well as the WHL’s Calgary Hitmen since 1995. The 19,280-seat arena also accommodated the Wranglers’ predecessor, the Stockton Heat, in 2021 prior to the team’s move.

    Wranglers game vs Gulls

by Great game, excellent talent level. 3-2 win! on 3/29/23Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

Other than buying my tickets from Ticketmaster which was so frustrating that I almost gave up buying my tickets, the game itself was great.

    FURIOUS

by Jordan on 12/24/22Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

I was charged 194 for two tickets. This was a gift and I thought it was the cost so I bought them through the website only to later find out they are actually only 21$! I feel duped and disgusted.

It was great seeing Sutter’s 1000 game and the Wranglers coming back from a two goal deficit short handed. Thus was our 3 game we attended we love the team and atmosphere!

by Ricky Bobbi on 5/26/22Stockton Arena - Stockton

Not a lot of people in attendance but i guess thats why the Heat is moving to Calgary. I will miss them. Ive been gling to see them for years. Purchasing through Tickmaster was easy but expensive.

    Great game, seating issues

by Sweetonme on 4/27/22Stockton Arena - Stockton

Bought our tickets through Ticketmaster and got to the venue and our seats were unavailable. Customer service said it was a ticket master issue and put us in a different section. Game was great as usual. Venue is awesome. But Ticketmaster and the venue need to get it together. Both complain it’s the others issue.

    Fun Time!

by Patrick on 4/11/22Stockton Arena - Stockton

AHL hockey is always fun to watch. A lot of NHL players often go between both leagues so the level of play is nearly NHL level. The Heat are currently #1 in the league and won this game in a shootout. The arena is not the best for handicapped people. Even though there is handicapped parking in the garage, it’s still a very far walk for those of us that need a cane for walking.

    So much fun!

by JeffM on 4/11/22Stockton Arena - Stockton

This was my first time at a hockey game and I loved it! Definitely want to come back. The seats were inexpensive, the crowd was active, and the teams were so impressive! Parking was easy in the garage and entry into the arena was swift. The only issue that kept this from being a 5-star experience is that the first snack bar (nearest the entry on the parking garage side) was overwhelmed and slow - they needed a couple more staff dedicated to food prep and dedicated cashiers instead of each cashier doing it all.

    Fans ????

by Len on 4/3/22Stockton Arena - Stockton

It was a great game. The venue was nice. There were less than a 1000 people there. There was no entertainment between periods, nothing like a WHL game, which is a lower level league. The sound guy was terrible. I’m used to WHL games with 4000-8000 people. The team is doing great, why such a bad fan experience??? It can’t be all because of covid. I feel sorry for the coach and players that are used to a crowd.

Game was outstanding. Less than a thousand fans attended.

by WCS Referee on 3/17/22Stockton Arena - Stockton

Plenty of available seats, so I moved down to row 12 to make the ticket purchase worthwhile. Parking on the street about 3 blocks away was free after 6 pm; safe walk both before and after the game. Had the opportunity to chat with Stockton-based Calgary Flames officials about the exchange of players between the NHL team and Stockton. Fans sitting near me, including players' wives or girlfriends, were friendly and knowledgeable.

    Boys Night Out

by Penske on 2/1/22Stockton Arena - Stockton

This trip was for a group of clients and Underwriters I work with from other companies to go out and have a good time. Most had never seen a Hockey game live and none had sat on the glass before. We had a great time and everyone walked away wanting to do it again. Some going to the next set of game I've set up for my family

    Wheres the food??

by MeLi on 1/3/22Stockton Arena - Stockton

We got there at least half hour early. Getting into the arena was no problem, but the line for food was ridic long. It took us about 20mins to get to the front of the line and by then, they had already ran out of stuff. The polish looked more like a regular hot dog and the pizza slice was cold. I will say the lady at the bar was very friendly and drinks were yummy!

We were able to find the perfect seats to watch the Stockton Heat play last Friday night. Will definitely go watch them again.
