Calgary Wranglers History

The Calgary Wranglers are a professional hockey team in the American Hockey League (AHL). The Wranglers trace their founding back to the Maine Mariners in 1977, but after several moves throughout the years, the Stockton Heat relocated to Calgary and were renamed the Calgary Wranglers ahead of the 2022–2023 AHL season. The name change itself was notable for reviving the same moniker as the former local Western Hockey League team, who played in Calgary from 1977 to 1987. In their inaugural AHL season, the Wranglers led the league in wins and regular season points, the latter of which earned the team the Macgregor Kilpatrick Trophy.

Calgary Wranglers at Scotiabank Saddledome

The Calgary Wranglers moved into downtown Calgary’s Scotiabank Saddledome following the team’s relocation to Stampede City in 2022. Despite its relatively new occupants, the Scotiabank Saddledome is no stranger to hockey, having hosted the NHL’s Calgary Flames since its opening in 1983 as well as the WHL’s Calgary Hitmen since 1995. The 19,280-seat arena also accommodated the Wranglers’ predecessor, the Stockton Heat, in 2021 prior to the team’s move.

    Not worth the money

by Ski133 on 12/22/15Raley Field - West Sacramento

Had front row seats but all that meant was our view was blocked by all the photographers and VIP people on stools. Then the glass fogged so couldn't see anything. Moved to higher seats but still couldn't see. Left in the second period. Only good thing is that one of the workers was nice enough to give my son a puck that came over the glass. My son was very excited.

Simple things could have made it much better

by GruesomeLeavingsHockeyFan on 12/22/15Raley Field - West Sacramento

We were looking forward to this game and found the rain on the first day just part of the outdoor hockey experience. The fogged glass made us feel that something fun was happening, but we were not allowed to watch it. Minor changes could have made this game much better. The glass was fogged for most of the game. More propane heaters would have solved this. There was not a hockey score board. It seems like renting one should be pretty simple an inexpensive. You could not hear the whistle or any sound from the rink. A mic on at rink level would have enhanced the experience. Ticket price for too high for the quality of the event. Not likely to do that again.

    Daley ice hockey

by Jimcorb on 12/22/15Raley Field - West Sacramento

A poorly orchestrated sporting event by all involved. Friday rainout should not have been held. Rain clearly on the way. But the concessions did very well. Bought $75 seats and couldn't see pick on ice. Food absolutely pathetic. Parking $20! My last visit to Raley field.

Could have been an awesome experience

by Knees2Faces26 on 12/22/15Raley Field - West Sacramento

I know you can't do anything about the weather but they knew it was going to rain but still had fans come to the game just to postpone the game a hour or later til Saturday. We came back on Saturday and found some of the vendors had not came back on Saturday. Parking was free as long as you had your parking stub from the night before. Now for the game. It could have been an awesome experience if I could have seen the game. The glass was all fogged over and couldn't see the players. There's nothing like spending almost $300 dollars to watch the game on the jumbo screen. Also they changed the layout of the rink compared to what ticket master was displaying when I bought the tickets. They should have planned better.

Rained out poorly managed and no refunds

by oldguy999999 on 12/22/15Raley Field - West Sacramento

This event was terrible. No provisions for bad weather poor communications during the event and then a makeup date we couldn't attend and no refunds. Will never do this type of event again.

    Outdoor game

by HockeyLawyer on 12/22/15Raley Field - West Sacramento

The idea was great, but the glass was fogged up and no one could see the game. $75 per seat and the game was hardly visible. Very disappointing.

    Stockton Heat was fun!

by Anonymous on 11/10/15Stockton Arena - Stockton

The Stockton Heat hockey game was fun. Great music, good action. The stadium needs kid activities though, like shooting or being a goalie. But, the chuck a puck is easier now, no writing your name and the drinks have caps now, so the kids don't spill them so easily. :-)

Didn't like outcome, but good time

    by taz500426 on 10/18/15Stockton Arena - Stockton

I'm a Rockford Ice Hogs fin, so losing 7-0 wasn't fun, but I had a good time. Sat around some fun fans.

    IceHogs vs Heat AHL Hockey

by ChigTownSportsFan on 10/13/15Stockton Arena - Stockton

This was the inaugural game for the Stockton Heat. Being a long time Blackhawks fan I was there to see the IceHogs & the future Hawks players. Stockton Arena is a nice little arena, well maintained & easy to get to. Plenty of parking available. Staff was friendly, food was typical arena food (along with typical arena prices). Love hockey, & even though game didn't go my way, it was still a great time.

    Great Scoring and defense

    by Doodlebug88 on 10/13/15Stockton Arena - Stockton

Loved the game glad to have hockey back...really-really miss some of our players...glad to see them on the roster but not sure why they did not allow them to play...Simpson & Hunt we were so looking forward to seeing them on the ice again...it was nice they introduced them but when we had scored so many points and were so far ahead it would have been good to see them play also...we will be back...hoping to see more shirts/jerseys in the Team Store.
