Calgary Stampeders History
The Calgary Stampeders are the fifth oldest active franchise in the Canadian Football League (CFL). Founded in 1945, success came early for the Stampeders, who completed the CFL’s only perfect 12-0 regular season and secured their first Grey Cup in 1948. Overall, the Calgary Stampeders have appeared in 17 Grey Cup finals and won eight, in 1948, 1971, 1992, 1998, 2001, 2008, 2014 and 2018. Notably, the Stamps’ championship victories in 2001 and 2008 also stand as the two highest-attended CFL championship games of the 21st century. Throughout the team’s history, Calgary Stampeders players have claimed 11 Most Outstanding Player Awards, nine Most Outstanding Canadian Awards, six Most Outstanding Rookie Awards, four Most Outstanding Defensive Player Awards and eight Annis Stukus Trophies for the CFL’s top head coach. The Calgary Stampeders and the Edmonton Elks are included in the multi-league sports rivalry between the two cities, dubbed the Battle of Alberta.

Calgary Stampeders at McMahon Stadium
McMahon Stadium has been the home of the Stampeders since it opened in 1960. The stadium is owned by the University of Calgary and named after two Calgary residents and brothers, Frank McMahon and George McMahon, who helped fund the facility’s construction. McMahon Stadium was the site of the 1988 Winter Olympics' opening and closing ceremonies and has hosted five Grey Cup finals between 1975, 1993, 2000, 2009 and 2019. The 35,400-seat venue has undergone several expansions and renovations, most notably in 1988, 2001 and 2005. During home games, fans can catch sight of Ralph the Dog, the first mascot of any CFL team, or celebrate a touchdown with the release of a white gelding known as the "Quick Six" horse, who charges along the east sideline.

It was a great game even though the Roughriders lost I had a blast!!!!
Great atmosphere great friends cold beer Saskatchewan games are always best
Good weather Good environment Good entertainment on the field Food was good
The seats were pretty good, weather was perfect and we won the game.
Other than Winnipeg losing in the final seconds my daughters and I had a great time
It amazes me that the coaching staff put Glenn in the first half as long as they did. The previous game against the Riders, Glenn was unsuccessful. Tate came in and started the team carrying the ball more and there was improvement, but in a pressure game half time is to late. The boys needed some "stickem" on their hands or something, they just couldn't hold on to that ball. Once again the Stamps didn't finish an awesome season. They pooped the bed again!!! I will be back next year as a season holder hoping for a finish to remember! At least the power of pink was a great success, Carter looks so handsome without the locks!
This was my first football game ever and it was such a nail biter game with amazing fans (both stamps and riders)
The game was great, the venue was horrible. McMahon Stadium is a dump. The seats were uncomfortable... Glad we brought our blanket. The turf was badly worn, the bathrooms were gross, for such a rich city they sure don't do much to help their teams. Stampeders should have a better stadium to play in and a better venue for their fans to go to.
Great night out at the game. Good football food, beer and fans .
The beginning of the game was slow going and the Stampeders weren't doing so well but they had a major comeback and won the game in the final seconds. It was extremely exciting and fun to watch. Food was really good and customer service was excellent. The Stampeder's security guys (guys in all black with the neon vests on) were absolutely excellent in keeping everything under control and making sure the game was enjoyable for everyone. I was really impressed with them.
I was really let down by the quality of football witness at the game. Pretty decent scene, but the product on the field resembled high school football in the USA. I would take any top 25 NCAA team over the top CFL team even money. Go Frogs.
I am a season ticket holder and bought a pair of extra tickets for myself and a friend. Have attended Stamps games for over 40 years, and this one ranked in the botttom 5 of worst gamesI have ever attended. Not even the 1990 Labour Day debacle was a blow out like this. I spent $$s for extra tickets, took a beautiful afternoon off to watch "football" only to discover that the Stamps had also taken the afternoon off. Next year, I am inviting the team to my backyard on Laour Day to watch me, and the ticket price is $50.00 each. For a Stamps fan, there were no redeeming features...the only thing that seeemed intact was the field goal kicking, and they never made onto the field. Some very poor coaching decisions in the first half set the tone...asking Esks to kick off with the wind after their field goal to our returner who has been a huge disappointment throughout the year.
This was the perfect ending to our week long trip/visit to Calgary & the area!! Great game and great (friendly) fans!!
Being a Montreal fan...It was a long night Enjoyed the hot dogs and a couple of beers See you at McGill Statium in Montreal for the next game!
This was my first time at a CFL game. I thought that the facility really did a nice job to make the whole experience worthwhile. The pregame activities to help raise money for different charities helped pass the time waiting for the gates to open. Security was visible and friendly, concessions were quick, and the ticket staff were very friendly. The play on the field was a little sloppy on both sides but the overall experience was great!
go stamps go, i had a great time at the game and the fireworks after were awesome
good game, could use more room for seating. go stamps
