About

As they approach their twentieth anniversary, CAKE’s adherence to their original guiding principles has only grown stronger. Formed during the nineties as a somewhat antagonistic answer to grunge, CAKE’s democratic processes, defiant self-reliance, and lucid yet ever-inventive music has made them a nation-state unto themselves, with no obvious peers, belonging to no school.  In addition to writing, arranging, producing, and performing their own music, they have taught themselves to engineer their recording projects in their own solar-powered studio, which actually generates more power than is needed to run it, causing the building’s electrical meter to run in reverse. CAKE’s most recent album, Showroom of Compassion, was released on their own Upbeat Records label and debuted on the US Billboard Top 200 Album Chart at #1 during 2011 -- making the album as pure an extension of the DIY aesthetic as ever attempted by an established act.

    Cake

by Koscher420 on 9/17/23TCU Amphitheater at White River State Park - Indianapolis

Cake is a great band to see live it was a great summer ending show at TCU but the venue needs to step up the speaker setup for the grass seats though!!! I was very disappointed in the sound in the grass area

    Cake concert

by Datenight on 9/16/23TCU Amphitheater at White River State Park - Indianapolis

Opened up with Frank Sinatra and continued their strong performance all the way through the concert setlist of hits. Great venue in Indy for concerts.

    Checkbook, please!

by Rocon on 9/16/23TCU Amphitheater at White River State Park - Indianapolis

Took my son to his first ever concert to see CAKE, which is a good, safe bet. Good show. Great venue -clean, small, felt safe. Even had a sign on the entrance that said “my first concert” which made for a great pic! But the food and drinks were so expensive - it’s crazy. And because I’d never been to the venue before (TCU Ampitheater) I parked in the garage there. $30 for parking. Sorry friends, that’s ridiculous. The lady taking money was the nicest person ever and I really appreciate her taking the time to give me facts about the location/venue. But the parking cost and food cost- man, it makes me not wanna go to concerts. I mean, I ate before I went but even a snack…so pricey! Whyyy? Other than that, really enjoyed the evening. People were friendly, place was clean…had free chairs to sit in. Bathrooms pretty clean. Would def see this band again - every day! - and hope to catch another concert there soon.

    An awesome show!

by SheHam on 9/14/23The Salt Shed - Chicago

This show was fantastic! The band is incredibly tight and outrageously talented. The only problem with the show was watching the lead singer go through this entire routine to have the audience guess what species of a tree was on stage. It was ridiculous. No one cared. And he just KEPT ASKING THE AUDIENCE UNTIL SOMEONE GOT IT RIGHT. It was difficult to watch. It probably lasted around 15 minutes. There was no music. The whole band stood around on stage while they watched individual members of the audience get scolded for speaking too much while he was interrogating other audience members regarding their knowledge of tree species. Sorry to bother you, John McCrea. I recommend the next venue designate an arborist so that McCrea doesn't burn 10 minutes of everyone in the room's time.

    Cake Chicago

by Travelboy on 9/14/23The Salt Shed - Chicago

Show started on time. Popular songs performed. Quality of performance good. Light show and music introduction was unnecessary and frivolous. Lead singer a bit derailed with giving away a tree interlude. (Kind of weird). Being a short duration concert (about 90 mins), intermission was unnecessary.

    So good

by Pete on 9/14/23FOELLINGER THEATRE - Fort Wayne

I have seen these guys multiple times and it seems like they are getting better every time. This is probably the first rock (I know, but I have to put them in some category) where I was able to sit the entire time and just enjoy the show. The band made it quite clear from the start to sit down, shut up, and enjoy. The venue was awesome, just a great experience overall.

    Cake at The Salt Shed

by Kc on 9/14/23The Salt Shed - Chicago

This was my first time seeing a show at the Salt Shed. Overall very good experience. Parked in lot across the street which was a little pricey but worth it. Cake put in a good show. Liked the multiple vendors for food and drinks

    Great Concert Experience

by TR 79 on 9/14/23FOELLINGER THEATRE - Fort Wayne

Kudos to Cake and the Frohlinger Theater (Fort Wayne) venue & staff. Free and available parking + starting on-time with no warm-up band + two great music sets and a tree give-away = A+ experience!

    Fun show

by Kgcake on 9/14/23The Salt Shed - Chicago

We saw Cake at another venue a few years ago, and this show was much better than the previous one. Cake had a lot more energy and played all our favorites songs. The Salt Shed is a cool venue that enhances a concert. We had a great time.

    More Cake, less filling

by foto on 9/13/23The Salt Shed - Chicago

Band sounded good and it was a perfect night to be outdoors. Would love to have heard more music and less talking. I'd prefer no intermission as well, personally.

by MrsRecess on 9/13/23The Salt Shed - Chicago

Saw them at the Salt Shed in Chicago—it was such a fun show! John’s interactions with the crowd were great and they gave away a Witch Hazel tree. Definitely should see them live if you’re a fan!
