    Unforgetable

by Frank801 on 4/16/10Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

I have been involved in the music industry for over 30 years seeing or recording hundreds of bands. Hands down one of the most outstanding concerts I have ever seen. Caetana's voice was amazing, catching subtle complexities over octaves to downright powerdriven full vocal inspiration. His young band was tight and volatile at the same time. The guitar player employed both power driven rhythm ala Chris Spedding to discordant Henry Cow/Fred Frith Tom Morello dissonance while seemlessly adopting Caetano's songs. Bass player and drummer killed -- again picking up the nuances of the songs while delivering with power. Caetano's short acoustic part of the concert cemented the unplugged portion of the show. The last five to eitght songs had the audience on their feet which resulted in two separate encores. Simply amazing.

    Disapointed

by br2003 on 4/16/10Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

I've known Caetano for many years and I loved it. However this consert was very disapointed. I expected to listen to some Bossa Nova, Tropicalismo. That was not the case. He palyed a type of rock, and most of the sounds were bad, some of them sounds more like noise than music.. I thought: "what is going on with Caetano? Has he changed that much since I moved from Brazil?!" In the 2 hours of concert I counted 4 sounds that were enjoyable.

Pure genius. Unmatchable singing beauty, inventive stage set/lighting/video projection, fresh instrumentation and arrangements.

The show was amazing. I've listen to Caetano Veloso for years now and I finally got the chance to hear his music live. I was very much entertained. The Greek theater is an amazing place. I recommend this to everyone.

    One step close to Sublime!

by Cavelar on 4/16/10Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

It was indeed an unforgettable experience being at Caetano Veloso's Concert at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles last night. The energy was intense and his presence radiant. The music selection was awesome and brought the audience to its feet to sing and dance along. Three returns to the stage by incessant ovation demonstrated not only his incomparable talents but the enormous hunger for a nostalgic experience by the Brazilian community abroad. In short: Caetano inspired the co-creation of a beautiful show. I loved it very much. C.Avelar

    What a dream to see

by german52 on 4/16/10Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

I have always wanted to see Caetano Veloso, his show was magnificent. I've seen way too many performers in their 60's who had an amazing career, but honestly, should have entered retirement long ago. NOT Caetano Veloso! His singing was superb, his stage presence was right on, and what made it magnificent was his humility! Every so often, he'd be in a middle of a number and walk back behind his band or off to the left or right thus allowing the band member a moment to really shine. Additionally he was called back on stage by the audience 3 times at the shows end and finally, did I mention that awesome custom made guitar.

    Disappointed Fans

by ethea on 4/14/10Terminal 5 - New York

My husband and I had decided to make the day a "date day" in NYC. We were so excited for weeks leading up to the concert because of how much we like Caetano Veloso and respect him as a musician. We had a terrific day, enjoying the things we miss so much since we moved...until the concert. We were sorely disappointed with the sound quality and the set list. I was shocked that Caetano brought such young and inexperienced people to play....They did not gel at all as a band and the best song that was played (in my opinion) was his rendition of an Argentine tango (by Gardel). The quality of instruments was definitely lacking, too. I was expecting much more Bossa Nova (since he is the master!), and what we got was some strange juxtaposition of who-knows-what. We thought it was so bad, that we actually left after the 1st half of the show, like some others. I had never left a show early before in my life. I think my poor deceased Brazilian relatives must be rolling over in their graves. I am happy that my esteemed colleague (who is also from Brazil) and his wife were not able to join us, because I would have felt so embarrased making him spend that amount ($45.00 each) on the ticket. It would have been a much better deal to get some churrasco and caipirinha and listen to some of his classic Bossa Nova greats on CD.

    Great voice but....

by babybella on 4/12/10Terminal 5 - New York

I've seen Caetano live so many times that I lost count.... This time I was a little disappointed... I understand he was touring his new album but I think the american audience was expecting more of the good old classic Caetano's songs. If the crowd can't be quiet while the singer is playong is a sign that they might ot be interested in the music and that was what happened. The venue was weird with poor accustics too. His voice was great though.

    Great music!

    by ArtLover1 on 4/12/10Lisner Auditorium - Washington

Caetano Veloso performed fantastically! The musicians in his band were also very talented. I just wished Caetano had thrown in some of his "classics". Additionally, the sound techs running the board didn't seem to know what they were doing - they ran the board so hot that had distortions and hissing in the sound. However, the musicians on stage were truly amazing!

    Caetano is amazin live

by Lupezu on 4/12/10Lisner Auditorium - Washington

He is original, unique, modern yet with that brazilian touch. He played new songs and old song and covers. He blew my mind with the cover of "volver". Tango song. Don't miss it next year.

Caetano Veloso was wonderful, however his small band seemed to me a bit inexperienced. The electric guitars were too loud and dominated songs at certain parts. I loved his solo performance with his acoustic guitar most.

not the Veloso I was expecting

    by Manu288 on 4/11/10Lisner Auditorium - Washington

very hard rock music and not the melodic sound I came to hear. He went out of his niche of nostalgic, romantic brazilian music and ventured in a non distinguished rock with Brazilian lyrics. Poor show presence and a scenography that was too minimalist. I was just very disappointed.

Caetano Veloso is a must see

by YinDC on 4/11/10Lisner Auditorium - Washington

I have liked Caetano Veleso since the 80's but have never had the opportunity to see him in person. It was a wonderful concert. I was amazed at how strong and beautiful his voice still is and how much of a showman he is! The audience was a wonderful mix of people of all races, ages, etc. and he brought us to our feet a number of times. He has a beautiful spirit that really comes across on stage and he looks amazing! Don't let life pass you by without giving yourself the treat of seeing Caetano Veloso in concert!

    Caetano went high-volume !

by GenteDeFora on 4/11/10Lisner Auditorium - Washington

I was very disappointed that Caetano has become "loud". Effectively he backs himself with a rock band at the volume of a major outdoor festival. I took my female American friend , saying she would see a soft, intimist lyrical poet, delicate, thoughtful and beautiful with super-classic words and fabulous soft melodies. All gone ! The Brazilian audience loved it but I had to block my ears to discern the words (I Live in Brazil and love the language). So - I may be out of fashion but where has the Caetano I grew up with and love gone !?

    Caetano rocked the house!

by cariocakid on 4/11/10Lisner Auditorium - Washington

Caetano Veloso played to a sold-out house at Lisner Auditorium that must have been at least 80% Brazilian. He was backed by a tight, solid young trio (they play on his latest CD "zii e zie") that handled a slew of different rhythms with ease, and were not afraid to get loud or dissonant. A couple of arrangements would have sounded at home on a Radiohead album. And to see Caetano dancing, jumping and prodding the audience on with such youthful delight, it was easy to forget that he's 67! He played most of "zii e zie," sometimes backed by films synced to the music. This was most effective on the new song "Guantanamo," accompanied by footage taken driving around Havana. He also played favorites like "O Leaozinho," as well as "Maria Bethania" a song he wrote to his (famous) sister in English while in exile in London.

I wanted to see Caetano since I was a kid in Brasil. So this was a great opportunity to celebrate my way out of US for good.
