On their earthy, jubilant new album, the Columbus, Ohio, band Caamp examine those in-between days that make up a life--not the best or most eventful days, certainly not the worst or most tragic, but those full of small pleasures and forgotten disappointments. Taylor Meier, the group's singer and primary songwriter, came up with the phrase Lavender Days to describe them--a phrase that struck him out of the blue, "like a coconut out of the sky," he says with a laugh. Why lavender? "It's nostalgic. It can remind you of your grandmother's perfume or maybe the air freshener in your mom's car. It can summon up all of these incredible memories and transport you to those in-between days, which I think everybody remembers with more clarity than the big events."
Caamp have been writing and singing about those lavender days--in tender love songs tinged with melancholy and determination--ever since Meier played his first notes with bandmate Evan Westfall more than a decade ago. They met as students at Ohio University in Athens, playing local coffeehouses and growing more committed to this extracurricular project. With the addition of Matt Vinson on bass and Joseph Kavalec on keyboards, they built up a grassroots following well beyond the Buckeye State based on the inventiveness of Meier's songwriting, the exuberance of their live performances, and their tireless dedication to touring as much as possible.
From their self-titled 2016 debut album to their most recent releases of By and By in 2019 to Live From Newport Music Hall, "Fall, Fall, Fall", and "Officer of Love" in 2020 the band has amassed over 590 million streams globally as well as achieved multiple #1's at AAA radio. The band has headlined sold out shows and performed at major festivals around the world including Firefly, Shaky Knees, Forecastle, Outside Lands, Austin City Limits, Great Escape and many more. They have also performed on national TV
Their new album Lavender Days will be released via Mom + Pop records on June 24th.
Great environment for a wonderful night of Caamp music. New backdrops, new songs, same wonderful music!!
Great show and atmosphere (and the rain held off which was a bonus). Good mix of old and new music. Only wished they’d played a few more up tempo songs to keep the energy going in the crowd.
I was glad to see vaccinations or negative test results were required for this event. I would not have attended if they were not and were not effectively enforced. I’m glad to see this public safety protocol was being followed and able to make this a safe and fun event!
Best CAAMP concert I’ve ever been to!! The venue was great, the music sounded great, and the crowd was great!
Music was great, venue was great and vaccination confirmation process was fast and easy. Was nice to know folks in crowd were vaccinated!
Check in was all over the place! A large group ditched right in front of us where two lines collided near the front. Very confused as to what line we needed to be in. Get it together Express!!! :-/ CAAMP was GREAT, you are lucky to get such awesome talent in your venue.
This concert was incredible, with the huge discography they have so much material that I heard maybe 2/3 repeat songs between the two nights. I was very impressed with their talent, especially the violinist. The venue was awesome being outdoors and although hot provided a great atmosphere for the music. The only tiny drawback I have is that the banjo was hard to hear. Not sure if they Mic'd it through the amp or how it worked, but was just quieter and harder to hear. Despite that the concert was still incredible, would definitely go again for another 2 night show!
We went to the concert in Columbus at the Express Live! venue and it was perfect! My friend said they sound so great in person, better than their recordings, and I agree! Would love to see them again soon.
love this band's recorded albums, and their live shows bring another energy. full of heart, they will give you all the feels in every melody shared. highly recommend!
Fortunate to see CAAMP perform in several states and always worth the trip. Music and artistry come from the heart. Excited to see them at Durham DPAC. Always fun, interactive and genuine.
Great seats! Both shows were incredible! Bendigo Fletcher slaaaaayed. Amazing! Caamp was even better live and had everyone on their feet. So great!
Great band, still a fan for sure but I don't understand disappointing fans by not playing your most popular songs... You're still and "up and coming band" so every set list should include your Top 5 most popular songs on Spotify. You were headlining so you had plenty of time.
Fantastic venue, excellent opener, killer music from Caamp...superb night.
I don’t know if it was just the venue we saw them in, but they were incredible! Sounded just as good or better than on Spotify!
Caamp is unimaginably talented and it is a pleasure to see the perform. However this was one of my least favorite concert experiences. The 2 openers were very long and admittedly boring. They played 2 nearly identical sets that could have been combined. The acoustics at the Newport were not ideal, it was nearly impossible to make out unknown lyrics or what the performers were saying. The worst part of my experience was the rest of the crowd around me - everyone was talking during Caamp’s set, and the music was not loud enough to drown them out. They were either uninterested in new songs or bored from the openers or uninterested altogether. This stuck out here more than other shows i’ve attended. I know all of this is at NO FAULT to the band and they still provided an amazing performance !!!!! I bought tickets to Red Rocks and can’t wait for that experience.
Really enjoyed the Caamp concert at the Newport on NYE. Great music! The countdown to midnight was casual and fun and made me feel like we were in someone's living room. Thanks Caamp for sharing this night with Columbus.
Great venue, great performance! This show was fantastic
The speakers were so jumbled it was hard to know what instruments were even being played ! Newport provides an awful sound system....... I will never go there again until they update the quality of the sound. But I love CAAMP!
Hey. Let me be honest. Caamp is a phenomenal group, with a soulful sound and catchy tunes. Love the guy. Literally already have tickets to another show. But dude. The crowd at Newport was roughhhh and kinda made the whole experience pretty hard to get into. Obnoxious college kids and a chatty crowd. I know that’s unfair, but that’s the review I’ve given to my friends and family.
I really love their music but unfortunately the lead of the band lacked true stage presence and the song selection was very poor. My wife and I were anticipating to be blown away by caamp. Instead we left early disappointed. I will still listen to their music but I think my days of going to see them live are done.
