About

In 2012, rap legend Busta Rhymes made a triumphant return to the game with two Grammy nominations for "Look At Me Now," his chart-topping collaboration with young R&B star Chris Brown. Rhymes continued to assert his preeminence on the Superstars of Hip Hop Tour in 2013, delivering songs like "Kill Dem" and "Respect My Conglomerate" with his signature machine gun speed and entertaining ticket buyers with his outré style and seizure-inspired dance moves. Since signing with Cash Money Records in 2011, Rhymes has been busier than ever, releasing a spate of successful singles including "Twerk It" featuring Nicki Minaj from his 2014 album E.L.E.2 (Extinction Level Event 2).

Rhymes's idiosyncratic style suits his Jamaican heritage and Brooklyn upbringing. After signing to Elektra Records at Just 17, Rhymes found himself collaborating with the biggest names in the industry, gaining notoriety for his impressive verses on tracks by A Tribe Called Quest, Boyz II Men, and Mary J. Blige. In 1995, director John Singleton cast Rhymes in the film Higher Learning, but the following year would prove the most pivotal in his rise to stardom.  His 1996 debut album The Coming was an overnight success, landing at No. 1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and earning Rhymes his breakout hit with "Woo-Hah!! (Got You All in Check)," which was accompanied by one of the most iconic music videos of the decade. He would go on to release seven more Top 10 albums throughout the '90s and 2000's, including The Big Bang in 2006, his first No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Rhymes continues to bring his outrageous style, leftfield wit and virtuoso delivery to his live performances, building anticipation for his live concerts in support of 2014's E.L.E.2 (Exctinction Level Event 2).

  • Busta killed it, but they should've had openers

by ReeSoch on 7/30/18REBEL - TorontoRating: 1 out of 5

First off, I'm a huge fan of hip-hop. They show had 3 dj sets, and Busta didn't get on stage till around 1:45am, performed till 2:30 and kept complaining about his mic and sound being off. Lil Kim announced cancellations last minute due to thunderstorm and not being able to catch a flight; ticketmaster would not agree to partial refund which is ridiculous, since the very last minute notice. They filled in her stage time with caribana costumes parading on stage for a good 30 mins. Overall, a lot of waiting around and in my opinion the promoters should have opening acts and support local talent.

I had so much fun. I loved all of the performances. G-Unit had me a little perplexed because I only recognized one face but still great performances.

  • Legendary!!!

by Monikque on 10/30/17UIC Pavilion - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

I definitely had an amazing time!!! All of the performers did a great job! If the mid 90's into the 2k's was your era then this is a concert for you...Busta had me ready to party...Da Brat had me Funkdafied and 112...I just love them. Being from Chicago and having Chicago legends there was awesome...G-Unit (Lloyd Banks) did great too!

  • Sound system was awful, artists good

by Tutie on 10/30/17UIC Pavilion - ChicagoRating: 2 out of 5

The sound system and video system were off the entire concert. That is until Busta, the last act, demanded that they fixed it. Up until that point, it was difficult to understand each act’s lyrics clearly.

  • Good show, overpriced!

by Jfdiaz on 10/30/17UIC Pavilion - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

Performances were great. Ticket prices were moderate. However once you include the fees, it was extremely overpriced. Was dissapointed as I am sure there could have been a better turn out of a crowd if it would have been priced accordingly.

  • Mic issues

    by Uic123 on 10/30/17UIC Pavilion - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

I couldn't understand what the artists were saying and the mic kept messing up. It was a chill crowd with a good lineup. I don't know why busta rhymes didnt perform full songs.

  • What a disappointment

by Bummedforsure on 4/30/17Van Andel Arena - Grand RapidsRating: 1 out of 5

Worst ran concert I've ever seen. Poorly organized, Bad MC, Bad Sound Guy, Lame Stage Show, and Pathetic effort by the performers.

  • School of Hip Hop

by RichBrian on 4/25/17Van Andel Arena - Grand RapidsRating: 5 out of 5

This was the event to attend for anyone interested in raw hip hop at its best. Scarface, Too $hort, Redman, Method Man, Lil Kim, and Busta Rhymes have all been instrumental in defining and redefining hip hop with their excellent contributions to its history. This concert marked a great opportunity to witness some of the g.o.a.ts of hip hop all in one venue at once. This cast of artists are all pioneers of hip hop in one of its greatest and toughest eras to be an mc. It was a great honor to witness a show that someone who bleeds hip hop, or is simply curious of hip hop would enjoy.
