Don't know how he does it! Burt spent 2 hours, uninterrupted on stage, playing, conducting the whole time. He played approximately 40 of his compositions, mostly songs, a few movie themes. He included songs from the Brill Building days in NYC, up to his collaborations with Elvis Costello and Steven Sater.
Of course, most emphasis is on the songs he wrote with the late, great Hal David, performed by the incredible Dionne Warwick, including "Walk on By", "Alfie", and "Do You Know the Way to San Jose", as well as Carpenters' "Close to You", "I'll Never Fall in Love Again" from his Tony-winning "Promises, Promises", and the "Theme From Arthur".
A 7 piece band (mini-orchestra?), including brass and violin, re-created the classic Bacharach arrangements perfectly, with keyboardists and vocalists. Over the years, covers of the Bacharach/David songbook have often homogenized the rhythms and tonal qualities that cause his music to swing; hearing the timeless jazz as intended reminded one why this music still stands tall after 50 years.
