    Saved By The Music

by HugeCCRFan on 8/5/13Benedum Center for the Performing Arts - Pittsburgh

The first act was very slow in building the story and seemed to drag on. The show ended up being 2 1/2 hours long due to the slow paced first act. The second act was much better with the final scene being very well done with a lot of great songs that were performed very well. The acting and singing throughout the show was very good. The show would have been much better had the first act not been so slow in developing the story. The strength of the songs and the performance by the actors and singers saved what would have been a boring show.

Pretty good show by multitalented performers

by Tuffyb on 7/11/13Von Braun Center Concert Hall - Huntsville

My husband and I have seen this play in London's West End so my expectations for this performance weren't that great, but I was pretty impressed by the cast's musical talents. Also, all the cast members except for "Buddy" and "The Crickets" played more than one roll, which involved costume changes as well as vocal/accent changes at times. In addition to the multiple roles, some of these performers also were able to play more than one musical instrument! They all were fine singers and dancers, too. The only criticism I would have is that some of the costumes and wigs worn by the women looked cheap and didn't always fit well. Obviously this is a troupe on a budget. I am looking forward to seeing some of these young people again in other productions!

by SilverCTS on 7/10/13Von Braun Center Concert Hall - Huntsville

Buddy-The Buddy Holly Story was excellent! We enjoyed the great performance of a great legend. The acting was great, the music was amazing! Enjoyed every minute of it! I just wish we hadn't seen it on the last day it was in Huntsville, I've told many a friend I would go see it again with them! If it's in your town, go see it, you won't be disappointed!

The first part was kind of dry and lengthy, but loved the rest of the musical.

    Buddy Holly Lives!

by Anonymous on 7/10/13Von Braun Center Concert Hall - Huntsville

Buddy, The Buddy Holly Story essentially follows the same script as the 1978 film The Buddy Holly Story for which actor Gary Busey received a Best Actor Oscar nomination in his role as Holly. The touring company cast featured young actor/musician Andy Christopher in the lead role and his portrayal of Holly’s stage persona and performance of Holly’s music was phenomenal! The entire ensemble cast was musically outstanding. This was a two and a half hour performance, with the final half hour being a musical encore that had our entire audience from kids who had likely never before heard this music to seniors like me who grew up with it on their feet throughout. When this show comes to your area, DO NOT miss it!

First act was slow. Second act picked up a great deal and made up for first act. I hope this can get off the ground and be a successful play as there is great talent in this groupe.

Kurt Jenkins was terrific as Buddy Holly

by AOcone on 7/9/13Von Braun Center Concert Hall - Huntsville

Kurt Jenkins was absolutely terrific as Buddy Holly. He captured the voice and the music perfectly. I felt transported back into my high school days (1957-1959). I didn't want the concert to end. The others in the cast were equally memorable and did a great job.

Memories of a great era in my life

by Aufan on 7/9/13Von Braun Center Concert Hall - Huntsville

I was in the 9th grade when Buddy Holly and the Crickets came along, and remember their songs, mainly from the times I spent at the roller rink. I used most of my allowance to buy 45 rpm records, plus a lot of my lunch money, and had all of Buddy's. The singers and actors in this production were fantastic, putting their all into their performances, and Kurt Jenkins simply transformed himself into Buddy Holly. Overall this was a fantastic show, especially for those of us who came of age during the late 50s/early 60s. I have been playing all my Buddy Holly CDs everyday since going. His catalog of songs is amazing, considering he was with us for such a short time. Go see this show. It is the best one I've seen over the past few years.

    Buddy Holly

by NParker on 7/9/13Von Braun Center Concert Hall - Huntsville

Not what I was expecting - I expected live music not lip syncing. This is better suited to a theme park show. Not at all worth the money.

This was fantastic! I enjoyed every minute of the show. My girl and I were both alive when Buddy was and whoever did the casting did a wonderful job it was almost like Buddy himself was on stage!

Buddy, Oh Boy what a show!

    by Anto1979 on 3/14/11Eldorado Casino - Reno

This is the second time seeing Buddy, and I enjoyed it second time around as much as the first time. I really love his music (as with all other 50's music (and I'm an 80's child!)) I highly recommend this to all music lovers, not just Buddy lovers. The actors really get into the characters, you can forget yourself in the moment and nearly think you are actually watching him live!! And great crowd interaction as well....
