About

It says all you need to know about Buddy Guy that the music genre that he has come to embody, the Chicago Blues, could never hope to contain him. In the more than 55 years since the Louisiana moved to Chicago and embarked on one of the most influential careers a guitarist could ever hope for (just ask Eric Clapton), Guy is still pushing the envelope of his artistry. But what is remarkable about this Rock N' Roll Hall of Famer is that he isn't sacrificing an iota of his relevancy while doing so. Guy proves it not just in concerts that are as high energy now as they were when he was heralding a rock guitar revolution in the 1960's, but also on the charts. His 2010 musical autobiography-of-sorts Living Proof was the blues legend's highest carting record to date, while his 2013 double disk follow up Rhythm and Blues was #1 on the Blues chart and showed 77-year-old to be every bit the firecracker as guest stars Kid Rock and Arrowsmith. If his last few decades have proven anything, it's that a ticket to a Buddy Guy concert isn't simply a tour through blues history, but an opportunity to see a genre's foremost practitioner still at the top of his game, with as much to say as ever has.

    Buddy Guy was a disappointment.

by Concertizer on 7/15/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre ASO - Atlanta

The openers, Jonny Lang and company, were wonderful. But they played for over an hour and a half. By the time Buddy Guy started his performance, it was 10:00. And Chastain shuts down at 11. And Buddy spent almost as much time complaining about the curfew at Chastain than he did actually performing. Then, when he decided he was done, he walked offstage without so much as bowing to the audience. Even a long standing ovation wasn't enough to bring him back onstage to say thank you. Money is tight and I live a long way from Chastain Park. I have been to many concerts over the years and this one ranks down at the bottom for entertainment value. If Buddy Guy weren't such an amazing artist, I would have given this concert one star. But, despite my obvious disappointment, those few minutes he actually made music were magical.

    Buddy Guy Mailing it in

by drockchef on 7/15/09House of Blues Atlantic City - Atlantic City

I have seen Buddy a dozen times and this was by far the worst performance I have witnessed. He seemed to walk through a few standards and be more interested in the annoying youngster that opened for him than playing for us. I'll definately go see him again, but for one of the last blues legends and a personal favorite, I was let down

    Buddy Guy cut short!

by Randdaddy on 7/15/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre ASO - Atlanta

Jonny Lang was the perfect journeyman blues worker, but Buddy Guy held the crowd in his hand and is a master performer. My only complaint was the early end. Buddy just got up and left the stage, we weren't sure if the show was over or what. Definitely buzzkill!

    Jonny rocked

by atldp on 7/15/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre ASO - Atlanta

Show was great... Jonny was a little too much into the blues, instead of rocking like he usually does. Buddy was just getting into it when he got frustrated cause the show had to end at 11:00.

Buddy and Quinn's Elk Creek Jam

by DUBBLEDEE on 7/15/09Elk Creek Vineyards - Owenton

Buddy Guy always amazes! The bonus on this event was young Quinn Sullivan. What a talent - at eleven years of age!! .. WOW The only drawback to this event was it was too short. We could have listened all night.

    Buddy Guy IS a Legend!

by frostyone on 7/15/09Elk Creek Vineyards - Owenton

The concert was another true performance by Buddy Guy. He seems to involve the crowd in the concert experience like no other "Blues" artist. It also took place at a great venue. The entire concert/weekend was a surprise birthday present for my wife and what a great time it was. Thanks again to Mr. Buddy Guy for the totally entertaining evening.

Buddy Guy forgot he was the Headliner!!

by Fender51 on 7/13/09Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom - Hampton Beach

I have seen Buddy Guy in concert 8 times, and this was the worst show I have seen him perform. He must be resting on his laurels, because he is in great physical shape for someone approaching 73 years old. He seemed to have unending energy, that was evident. His guitar playing and singing were great--there just was not much of it on Friday, July 10. He started his set at 9:45 and was done at 11:00, and, in that time period, I think his young 10-year old prodigy played as much as he did. One song with Quinn Sullivan would have been plenty. I came to see a legend play the blues, and all I heard was some note-slinging kid screech into the microphone. Buddy, if you are going to give your fans just pieces of a few of your songs, I'll fire up the CD player and listen to the "real deal". And save alot of money in the process.

    Buddy was great!

by QueenLucy on 7/13/09Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom - Hampton Beach

Buddy Guy was terrific, but the sets with he and Quinn Sullivan were lame in my opinion and a real disservice and distraction from one of the greats.

Buddy Will ALWAYS Be The "Guy"

by VLizzle on 7/13/09Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom - Hampton Beach

I have never been disappointed seeing Buddy Guy play and this event was no exception. It was also a great pleasure seeing Tom Hambridge and of course the remarkable Quinn Sullivan as well. If you have never been to a "blues" show but always wanted to then mark your calendar for the next time Buddy is in town. You will be glad you did.

Buddy Guy is a great entertainer

by DBoretti on 7/13/09Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom - Hampton Beach

Buddy Guy was great and so was Quin Sullivan. However, I paid to see Buddy Guy and most of the night was other acts. First up was this singer song writer, I can't even remember his name. He played a snare drum and had a piano backing him up. It was ok, but I actually got bored. Then Quin came on, this kid was pretty good for a 10 year old guitar player. He did a nice version of little wing. The singing was a little ear piercing at times, but hey! he is only 10. He played for almost an hour. It's great Buddy has taken this kid under his wing and decided to give him some stage time, but come on, I came to see Buddy. Finally Buddy came on around 10:30p.m. He was great as always. The sound was a little boomy at times, but great for the most part. Even my wife enjoyed his performance. He was funny and played great. He played for about 40 mins and then Quin came out and played with him to finish the night, voodoo child was cool, but too much Quin and not enough Buddy. Overall, I wish Buddy played longer. He is who I paid to see. If I knew most of the night was going to be other acts, I would not have bought gold seat tickets. I just wish Buddy played longer.

by mimirockstheblues on 7/12/09Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom - Hampton Beach

Buddy ripped up the stage! He was on fire from the second he walked out until the show was over. Quinn Sullivan (10 year old guitarist) was absolutely amazing.

The show was great. Buddy Guy is a great showman who got the crowd involved and made for a great night. Quinn Sullivan is incredible for his age. The seats were great and so was the waitstaff. Fun night all around.
