It says all you need to know about Buddy Guy that the music genre that he has come to embody, the Chicago Blues, could never hope to contain him. In the more than 55 years since the Louisiana moved to Chicago and embarked on one of the most influential careers a guitarist could ever hope for (just ask Eric Clapton), Guy is still pushing the envelope of his artistry. But what is remarkable about this Rock N' Roll Hall of Famer is that he isn't sacrificing an iota of his relevancy while doing so. Guy proves it not just in concerts that are as high energy now as they were when he was heralding a rock guitar revolution in the 1960's, but also on the charts. His 2010 musical autobiography-of-sorts Living Proof was the blues legend's highest carting record to date, while his 2013 double disk follow up Rhythm and Blues was #1 on the Blues chart and showed 77-year-old to be every bit the firecracker as guest stars Kid Rock and Arrowsmith. If his last few decades have proven anything, it's that a ticket to a Buddy Guy concert isn't simply a tour through blues history, but an opportunity to see a genre's foremost practitioner still at the top of his game, with as much to say as ever has.
A great show from the start to the end. Would like to see Buddy again.
WoW!!! Never had the opportunity to see Buddy live, but what a talent! What a gentleman! what a showman! what a singer! what a guitar player.....and how well he shares the love and gives this young protege the stage. Outstanding.
Buddy was amazing as he usually is, one of the few real bluesmen left who continues to tour. He puts on an incredible show. The young kid Quinn Sullivan, who is 10 years old I believe, will truly blow your mind. He is gonna be something in the years to come and I'll enjoy watching him climb the ladder!
From the older Buddy Guy to the younger Quinn Sullivan, it was an inspiring show. I give credit to Buddy for his encouragement and support for Quinn. Buddy has approx. 60 years on Quinn but their music bridges the gap. Buddy, one of the greatest blues artists of all time and Quinn, one of the upcoming greatest blues artists of all times. The energy was felt.
The venue was wonderful. The only problem was that he didn't play long enough....
The show at Chastain was outstanding as this is a great venue for musical events. Johnny Lang put on a great performance showcasing his blues/gospel influences. Buddy Guy's performance was unforgettable as he brought the level of energy and invigorated the crowd with his musical abilities and his back up band kept up with him. Buddy Guy is a must see performer and you must see him at Chastian.
Awesome concert, loved Jonny and Buddy together. Definitely wished it was longer. Maybe started earlier.
This was the first time I have been to the casino at a seated event. I liked it because I could see better than when I am standing amidst lots of tall people. The seats were close together, so it helps if you are sitting next to someone you like, or at least isn't offensive in any way :) I wasn't expecting to see a young boy play so well. Some people complained because the boy played more than Buddy Guy, but I thought it was a great show. When Quinn first came out, I thought he was just playing air guitar and that Buddy Guy was playing behind him or backstage. I soon realized that was not the case. It was a truly amazing experience.
My CHESS record with Buddy Guy "I was walking through the woods" recorded in the early 60-ies with other icons as Otis Spann & Junior Wells seemed to come alive again at this great performance! Bring him back next year !
The talent of two legends in one fantastic night. The setting was fabulous and the entertainment factor was even better. Mesmerizing! Traffice flow was super easy in and out and the staff at Chastain is fantastic. Since we've never been to Chastain before, the only issue was that the venue website says you can only bring coolers for the tables when in fact, you can bring coolers for any seats. (so we were disappointed when we left ours in the car) Other than that, it was one of the most pleasurable concert experiences we've ever had.
We loved every minute of Buddy that we heard. We just wish he could have played longer. He or somebody on his staff must have forgotten that you can't play past 11 pm at Chastain. He didn't start playing early enough to make it a fantastic concert.
I had never seen Buddy Guy in concert before and it was clear from the start that he has earned his place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He plays and sings masterfully and knows how to work the audience. His soft/loud, fast/slow style leaves fans always wanting more. He is the consummate entertainer.
The ease with which Buddy Guy entertains and interacts with his audience is a delight to experience. We've seen him in concert 4 times now, and he gets better and better. His graciousness in sharing the stage with young Quinn Sullivan (another phenomenal talent!) demonstrated a first-class man.
This was an awsome concert. I would go out of my way to go to another BG concert.
Great show. I especially enjoyed Quinn Sullivan's set. Wonderfully entertaining. Buddy Guy is still one of the best guitar players out there!
Great venue. Atmosphere was good. Jonny came out and played a good set. Buddy was great but couldn't play past 11pm according to a city ordinance. At 10:50 he said 10 more minutes and at 11 he walked off the stage. No Encore with all the fans waiting for more. Maybe only 1 act next time will be better.BB King is coming soon by himself so we will try again.
We drove down from Cincinnati to Elk Creek Winery in Owenton for the event, which took about two hours. Once we got there we were amazed at how small the crowd was for such a legend. I suppose that the location had something to do with it...anyhow the venue is beautiful and they worked hard to make it nice. Only wines from the winery were for sale as far as alcohol goes, however. First up on the concert stage was the whiz kid guitarist Quinn Sullivan, who looked kind of cute on stage but completely made up for his small stature with some outstanding guitar work. The Buddy took the stage and played for about one hour...had one encore...that was it. Total of less than an hour and a half of actual music - we drove for two hours just to get there. He did roam into the audience, connecting with the fans and letting us see up close and personal the legendary guitar work that made him famous. It just wasn't the value for the performance that I expected.
This event was the event of the summer for us. The 10 year old was unbelievable and Buddy Guy was great as always. The place was the most relaxing we have been too. We need more concerts there and a hotel so you won't have to drive. I have recommended to several people that I know and some musicians that we know in Florida that play with Big Bill Morganfield. Always a treat and will attend again.
Buddy Guy was awesome. Played familiar songs and some great newer ones. His warm up was also great to watch. He was a 13 year old kid from Boston who was just amazing. Buddy came out into the audience for one song and I took his picture from three feet away. The winery was also a great venue. Very initimate and beautiful. I would not reccommend getting the VIP tickets since they are up the hill and I wouldn't be able to see from there. The lawn seats would be great for an inexpensive night of fun.
I heard about this concert through Ticketmaster, and I bought tickets with my buddy from college so we could each say we've seen a true blues legend. Both of us knew a decent amount about Buddy Guy before we went, but we had no idea what we were getting in to. Bottom line, I've been to some great concerts before, such as RHCP, Rush, The Who, etc, but this was by far the best concert I've ever been to. He walked right off of the stage and through the crowd playing and singing, even went up the elevator and played from the balcony! I was no more than about 5 feet from the man himself! It amazes me how much Buddy still has left in the tank after all this time. There was not one dull moment from start to finish. He didn't play quite as long as I was hoping he would have, but it was still an unbelievable show, and definitely something I'll never forget.
