Before The Beatles, The Beach Boys or The Rolling Stones ever played a note, Rock 'n' Roll was forever changed by Buddy Holly, a 19-year-old kid from Texas. BUDDY — The Buddy Holly Story tells the true story of Buddy's meteoric rise to fame, from the moment in 1957 when "That'll Be the Day" hit the airwaves until his tragic death less than two years later. The show features more than 20 hits including "That'll Be The Day," "Peggy Sue," and "Oh, Boy!" Buddy will have you on your feet and "send you out of the theater on an unstoppable high" (The Boston Globe)!
Overall a fun show, but much like the movie with Gary Busey, the play was not completely accurate. Paul McCartney's documentary is a must for Holly fans.
Light-hearted, upbeat, fun musical. Makes you wonder--again--what might have been if not for that fateful plan trip.
We made a special trip to Chicago just to see Buddy and we were not disappointed. Show and music lived up to our expectations.
The music was phenomenal! The play was written more for the music than for the acting but Buddy rocked on stage.
Very good cast and performance. Great musicians and nothing better than live performances. If any fault they do some recorded short clips where I would have preferred the band to perform those same short section. Not a large crowd, too bad for those that did not come see this show.
I took my mom to see Buddy because I knew it would be good for her to hear music from her youth. She loved it and thought it was the best musical she has seen in years. I don't normally care for 50's music, but the musicians were great and the actors looked like they were having a lot of fun. I recommend Buddy for light entertainment and for an afternoon/evening of nostalgic fun.
While the plot is pretty average the music is very well done by excellent+ musicians. If you like Buddy Holly's music you will enjoy this show.
overall the production and cast was a lot better than what i thought it was going to be. Music and actor who played holly was great
The show was great except for the dialogue because it was hard to understand and too fast. We are seniors and sat in the belcony and that may have caused that problem. The music was wonderful and brought back great memories. KP
Out standing. Best play I ever saw, Would like to see it again and tell every one how great it was
This was a true pleasure and pleasant surprise. "Buddy" was spot on. Amazing vocals. Entire cast was outstanding and tight musically. Definitely get your seats before they're gone!!!
This was such a fun show. Cast was incredible and energy high. Couldn't resist clapping and singing along. Wish it was staying in Chicago longer. Great way to celebrate 42nd wedding anniversary. Left feeling happy. Would see again.
The Buddy Holly Story was great. The cast really seemed to enjoy performing each and every song. One of the quickest 2 hours I have spent in a long time.
It started out a little slow, but picked up soon. They did a great job of telling his story and explaining what his life and attitudes were like. Loved all the songs and expecially how he used us, the audience, like we were the real audience during his performances back then.
"Buddy" (Chicago), an honest tribute to Buddy Holly, whose life was unexpectedly cut short by a tragic plane crash, is that kind of show that keeps you wanting to have lived those days back in the 50s, although I was born in the late 60s. Life was simpler, purer, and, in many aspects, more intensely appreciated than today. The show recaptures all that essence from the late 50s, depicting the period between the rise and the tragically disappearance of one-of-a-kind musician, who truly believed in himself, his character, his lookings, his music, instead of trying to adopt the current view of what was perceived as " in", particularly in his native state of Texas. The cast is wonderful, the actor portraying Buddy perfectly recreates the idol, and the band gives the full support for an unforgettable experience. Go, watch it, and have fun! You´ll leave the theater hurrying to download all Buddy songs you can find so that feeling may accompany you whenever and wherever you want. Don´t miss it!
It's arguable Buddy Holly was one of the most talented, prolific rock n roll song writers and performers in history. So to see his life and music put on display by this extremely talented cast was like being there in person when it all took place over 50 years ago. We enjoyed every minute of the evening!
I wanted to find a show that was "Parent Friendly" because my parents were visiting and my mom looses interest i things very quickly. The Buddy Holly show was the perfect show for my parents and my family. I was amazed at how talented and entertaining the cast was. The main character that day was Kurt Jenkins, what a performance and he resembles Buddy Holly quite a bit. The entire show was live music and the cast was constantly dancing and singing. They took you back in time and my parents and other audience members were tapping their feet and clapping. It is well worth going and seeing. I don't go that often to shows but this was well worth it and the cast was definitely amazing! Thanks for the 2 hours of entertainment.
Buddy was good but it didn't sweep us off our feet. The musical performances were good. We have seen Million Dollar Quartet and Under The Street Lamp performances in the past year, and it just didn't measure up to those.
Great show - high energy. Cast was exceptional. Highly, highly recommend.
We loved everything about The Buddy Holly Story! The music was awesome, the actors all did great jobs and the whole experience was wonderful.
