BRUNO MARS IN CONCERT

Classic showmanship in the vein of James Brown and Michael Jackson is alive and well, and Bruno Mars is here to prove it. Mars takes the stage with The Hooligans, a tightly choreographed nine-piece soul band that serves as the perfect representation of his commitment to the live experience – a commitment that led to his selection as the halftime performer at Super Bowl XLVIII. A classic song-and-dance man and multi-platinum selling pop star, Mars references everyone from Prince to The Police in both his image and sound, but the result is more than mere imitation; as a songwriter and producer, he has successfully combined the sounds of his pop idols with reggae and hip hop to create a new generation of genre-crossing hits. In anticipation of his Super Bowl performance, fans can get tickets to catch Bruno Mars in concert on 2013’s Moonshine Jungle Tour.

BRUNO MARS BACKGROUND

Mars was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, where he gained his first exposure to music playing rock and Motown covers in his family’s band, The Love Notes. By age five, the Elvis Presley impersonations he performed with the band had gained him a reputation on the island and landed him a cameo in the 1992 film Honeymoon in Vegas. After high school, Mars moved to Los Angeles to pursue music, finding initial success as a member of The Smeezingtons, the writing and production team behind Flo Rida’s 2009 hit “Right Round.” His first success as a solo artist came in 2010 with “Nothing On You,” a collaboration with rapper B.o.B. that peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned the duo several Grammy nominations. Mars’ debut album, 2010’s Doo-Wops & Hooligans, landed at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and contained two worldwide No. 1  hits with “Grenade” and feel-good ballad “Just The Way You Are,” which nabbed him his first Grammy (Best Male Pop Vocal Performance). Sophomore album Unorthodox Jukebox (2012) was an even bigger success, peaking at No. 1  on the Billboard 200 and spawning the ubiquitous hits “Locked Out of Heaven” and “When I Was Your Man.”

The concert was opened by the Lovenotes. This is Bruno Mar's fathers band. It was very personal to see the type of music he grew up with and inspired by. You can tell that he is proud of his Hawaii roots and is grateful for his family's support. When Bruno was introduced to the stage, his opening act grabbed you completely. Tyhe time flew and you don't realize that it has been more than an hour. He captured the audience and sang wach song perfect.

Performance was awesome! It was my first time being at a concert in my life and I have to say I was impressed with the sounds from the speakers. It wasn't too soft or too loud. It was perfect! Bruno gave it his all in this performance and it was good to see a former islander come back to his roots and perform for us! Great Job Bruno and we all hope to see you again when Album 2 comes out!! Good luck at the grammies!!

His show was amazing. It was a Jingle Ball concert so there were 3 other artists. (Jay Sean, Enrique, & B.O.B.) and the time he was on stage just wasn't long enough. You could still hear his amazing voice over all the fans singing along. I think everyone knew every word to his songs. Can't wait until he headlines. I will definately go!!!

  • Bruno Killed it!!

by rbrxtn on 12/16/10The Bottom Lounge - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

I usually dont like general admission shows because once you get your place inside the venue, you are pretty much stuck there. The Doo Wops & Hooligans show was worth the wait! Bruno & team rocked the Bottom Lounge. Bruno Mars brought so much energy to this show. His Vocals were awesome! He had a very talented group of musicians, and Philip Lawrence singing background vocals, and a couple times singing solo. Philip kept singing BOCKWITME! Bruno had great interaction with the crowd cracking jokes, telling stories, and getting us to sing along. He did a nice cover of Billie Jean. The Bottom lounge was a great venue, actually a lot better than other General Admission spots that I have been to before. The size of this particular place was pretty cool because it allowed you to really get close, and have a great experience. My legs and body hurt when the show was over, but that's how i know I had a great time! Go see this guy!

  • DONNIS IS AWESOME

by lazyguyanddumbidiot on 12/6/10Paradise Rock Club - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

it was such a good show and the opening act Donnis was unbelieveble. I wanted to listen to Donnis all night. It was a really good time, we had real greasy Mexican food before the concert so me and my gf were really full. But once Donnis came on stage we forget all about that. Bruno was awesome too! Paradise was nice, bartenders were really great and the one on the second floor was friendly to us and became our friend, some guy underage asked us to buy him drinks and we said NO! haha told the bartender and she was helpful. All and all a great show, WE LOVE DONNIS. We ran down comm ave after and ate McDonalds...show was great especially with Donnis as an opener. Bruno should win all grammy's he is nominated for, wooo

  • Bruno Mars--Class Act!

by Anonymous on 12/6/10Grog Shop - Cleveland HeightsRating: 5 out of 5

As someone who has seen Paul McCartney, The Eagles, Billy Joel, etc. in concert, I must say, Bruno Mars ranks as one of my favorite concert-going experiences. The energy was high the entire time, and he always made sure the crowd was being entertained. He sounded incredible; it's amazing someone can sound that good live! I only wish he had sang "Liquor Store Blues" at this show, which he apparently did at others. Nothing to complain about though--he put on a wonderful show! And afterward he came out in the freezing cold to sign autographs for everyone waiting and came across as a super nice guy!

  • Bruno Mars is an unbelievable artist

    by nay0ungee on 12/3/10Paradise Rock Club - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

I saw this show with my friends at Paradise Rock Club on November 30, 2010. Everything about the show was incredible - from the DJ spinning the top recent hits (everyone cheered when "Like a G6" came on), to the opening act (forget his name!), and of course Bruno Mars! He is amazing live.. his voice is breathtaking, and the hundreds of girls that were there were definitely blown away. Even the smattering of men that were there were impressed with his stage presence and performance. He played all his hits, including more songs from his album as well as covering a few songs like Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" to the tune of NIrvana's "Smells like Teen Spirit". He also incorporated The White Stripes' "Seven Nation Army" into that number. What more can I say about him? He has a fantastic voice, beautiful smile, great style, and can play the drums, guitar, and piano!! Definitely an all-around artist.. and truly deserves all the accolades!

  • Great performance!

The band was great and the music. Paradise is a great venue for the price!

  • Amazing is an understatement

by Bockmonster on 12/2/10Paradise Rock Club - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

One of the very few artists who sings just as amazingly live as the productions. Fun, up beat, and mesmerizing. Hands down one of the best concerts ever.
