BRUNO MARS IN CONCERT

Classic showmanship in the vein of James Brown and Michael Jackson is alive and well, and Bruno Mars is here to prove it. Mars takes the stage with The Hooligans, a tightly choreographed nine-piece soul band that serves as the perfect representation of his commitment to the live experience – a commitment that led to his selection as the halftime performer at Super Bowl XLVIII. A classic song-and-dance man and multi-platinum selling pop star, Mars references everyone from Prince to The Police in both his image and sound, but the result is more than mere imitation; as a songwriter and producer, he has successfully combined the sounds of his pop idols with reggae and hip hop to create a new generation of genre-crossing hits. In anticipation of his Super Bowl performance, fans can get tickets to catch Bruno Mars in concert on 2013’s Moonshine Jungle Tour.

BRUNO MARS BACKGROUND

Mars was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, where he gained his first exposure to music playing rock and Motown covers in his family’s band, The Love Notes. By age five, the Elvis Presley impersonations he performed with the band had gained him a reputation on the island and landed him a cameo in the 1992 film Honeymoon in Vegas. After high school, Mars moved to Los Angeles to pursue music, finding initial success as a member of The Smeezingtons, the writing and production team behind Flo Rida’s 2009 hit “Right Round.” His first success as a solo artist came in 2010 with “Nothing On You,” a collaboration with rapper B.o.B. that peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned the duo several Grammy nominations. Mars’ debut album, 2010’s Doo-Wops & Hooligans, landed at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and contained two worldwide No. 1  hits with “Grenade” and feel-good ballad “Just The Way You Are,” which nabbed him his first Grammy (Best Male Pop Vocal Performance). Sophomore album Unorthodox Jukebox (2012) was an even bigger success, peaking at No. 1  on the Billboard 200 and spawning the ubiquitous hits “Locked Out of Heaven” and “When I Was Your Man.”

OMG where do I begin. Janelle went off! I've never seen or heard a show like hers!! I was sooo impressed!!! Now my man Bruno, could not go wrong!!! I think he is better live then in videos! Just my opinion. I love the Verizon theater b/c it's not huge and not small!! Bottom line I LOVE YOU BRUNO MARS!!!!!

I had so much fun it was a great concert. Bruno Mars is one of my favorite artist so it was awesome seeing him live. I didn't really know much from janelle monae but she made me a fan. She's a great performer.

  • Extremely disappointed!!

by StephanieUNT on 5/19/11Verizon Theatre At Grand Prairie - Grand PrairieRating: 2 out of 5

My boyfriend and I left work early to get to the concert on time only to have to endure 2 hours of Patrick Stump jumping around like a baby throwing a fit and Janelle Monae screaming at the top of her lungs before we actually got to see Bruno Mars all of one hour!!!! Such a disappointment. By the time he came out, I was irritated, tired and ready to leave. Until Verizon posts some kind of agenda/schedule of events, I'll never be returning. Had I known I was going to have wait 2 hours before actually seeing Bruno Mars I would not have rushed to get there by 7pm!!!! The sound quality was also horrible - we couldn't even hear the words over the music!

  • Janelle show is a waste of tjme

by Yujin on 5/19/11Verizon Theatre At Grand Prairie - Grand PrairieRating: 4 out of 5

Bruno Mars should find a new front act cause Janelle M show is so boring, crazy and noisy. Everybody beside me are shouting boo.... It's noisy and Loud but its so boring that my family almost fell asleep.

  • Fresh, innovative, and lot of fun

by thomas1835 on 5/19/11Verizon Theatre At Grand Prairie - Grand PrairieRating: 4 out of 5

The opening was done by Patrick Stomp - and it was horrible. No voice, no rhythm... just load screaming... Fortunately, things changed right after that. We mainly went to see Bruno Mars, but we were stunned by Janelle's performance. Her music, dance, style, and overall show was amazing. She is a real artist and is able to present different styles and to switch easily between them. Her power, smile, and enthusiasm really shows that she loves doing what she is doing and enjoys being on stage. Of course, Bruno was fantastic. He included the audience multiple times and created a dynamic, playful concert. Great songs, great guy - just positive. Minor negative: the music was amplified a tiny bit too much and therefore overran some great tunes by pure volume...

  • Bruno Marrs is Amazing

by jjmoray on 5/19/11Verizon Theatre At Grand Prairie - Grand PrairieRating: 5 out of 5

This has to be the best concert I have been to in a long time. I am usually ready to leave shortly after arriving. But on this one,,,,,I didn't want it to end! He is amazing and put on a much better show than I expected. I already love his music!

  • Bruno Mars was so good Live

by Terrilee62 on 5/19/11Verizon Theatre At Grand Prairie - Grand PrairieRating: 5 out of 5

Bruno Mars was the best performer Live I have seen in a very long time. He sounds better live than on CD Janelle Monet was also very entertaining but i felt as if the sound was not always good at Verizon Patrick Stump also very good but sound system was not good

  • Bruno was great...

by Drumcapn on 5/19/11Verizon Theatre At Grand Prairie - Grand PrairieRating: 4 out of 5

...as for Janelle and Mr. Stump, I was not impressed. It was worth the wait to see Bruno Mars, though. Finally, a performer that can sing without auto tune.

  • Bruno Mars was great, Janelle Monae not so much!

by Crustee on 5/19/11Verizon Theatre At Grand Prairie - Grand PrairieRating: 2 out of 5

First of all, thought the venue's sound system is a little crappy. Never been there before, but it doesn't seem to give the performers much justice. Janelle Monae, I thought, was predominantly screaming, not singing...and I personally think she was on for way too long. More time should've been given to Bruno Mars. Bruno Mars' voice is quite smooth, cool, and soothing. It was something else for a 33 year old female to be around all these shrilling teenage girls, but a good time more or less.

  • Ehhhh.

by Skitto on 5/19/11Verizon Theatre At Grand Prairie - Grand PrairieRating: 3 out of 5

Bruno did a great job as expected. His opening act "Janelle" however hurt the overall concert. Janelle Monae was amazingly horrible which was a shame because she has an exceptional voice.......she just utilized it poorly. It was probably one of the weirdest, annoying, and painful performances I have ever seen in my life. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a unique performance, but this act was trying way to hard to be different which spawned mixed feelings of incomprehensible disgust with occasional spurts of laughter and I don't believe they intended it to be funny. Great job Bruno.

Great show...great performances...great lighting...that is really all u gave to say..

  • They rocked!

by gfgrukyku on 5/19/11Verizon Theatre At Grand Prairie - Grand PrairieRating: 5 out of 5

It's very refreshing nowadays to find new artists that can play instruments (not sequenced, programmed, etc), write their own songs, and can sing well live, without Auto Tune, etc. It's a throwback to another era when musicians wrote and performed good pop songs. Outstanding. Janelle Monae was insanely good also.

  • Bruno was great but the 2hr Openers were not

by payforgoodconcerts on 5/19/11Verizon Theatre At Grand Prairie - Grand PrairieRating: 2 out of 5

Info was not given when purchased tickets about such a long concert or 1st act. Too long for a younger crowd on school night 7pm to 10:40pm. @70 % WERE YOUNGSTERS THERE TO SEE BRUNO. Openers too long 2HRS! before Bruno. Then he sang for less than 1hr. the genre of 1st band and Janelle was not entertaining to most of Bruno crowd. Janelle was impressive but not the music style for most kids that were there. VERY QUIET CROWD! for the openers. CONCERT TOO LONG. 2HRS TO WAIT FOR BRUNO.

  • Awesome Show

Great show, had a blast. Sounds better than album.

  • Bruno Mars was "out of this world"

by Purfx on 5/19/11Verizon Theatre At Grand Prairie - Grand PrairieRating: 5 out of 5

The entire show was unforgettable! It started with Patrick Stump (and I found that I couldn't look away from his skin tight pants and white boots) and while he has a great voice, I was hoping it would end soon. Janelle came on and put on quite a fun little show. Really got everyone pumped up and ready for the big event. It was definitely enjoyable to hear her sing and watch her dance. At the end, she did the brave thing and jumped into the pit and they carried her to the edge where she exits at left stage. pretty cool. Bruno and the Hooligans were FUNomenal. The sound was great, and they performances kept me smiling, laughing, singing and dancing. Definitely a must -see show. I would go see it again in a heartbeat.

  • Bruno Mars was Great!

by Anonymous on 5/19/11Verizon Theatre At Grand Prairie - Grand PrairieRating: 4 out of 5

Janelle Monae was the worst concert act I have ever seen, and I have seen many many concerts! Bruno Mars did an incredible job, and we really enjoyed his setlist. I would definitely recommend all of our friends see Bruno Mars, but if Janelle Monae is opening we will definitely show up much later next time.

  • Bruno Mars is Hot!!!

by mitsumi013 on 5/19/11Verizon Theatre At Grand Prairie - Grand PrairieRating: 4 out of 5

  • Mr. Mars is the BOMB!!

by Anonymous on 5/19/11Verizon Theatre At Grand Prairie - Grand PrairieRating: 4 out of 5

I took my son for his 16th Birthday and he loved it. Janelle Monae put on a good show. And Bruno Mars has such a great voice and played to the audiance and the light show was really nice. It put a special touch to the scene. He saved the best song for last. Good closing. Unforgetable.

  • The wait sucked

by SijiP on 5/19/11Verizon Theatre At Grand Prairie - Grand PrairieRating: 3 out of 5

Had to wait 2 hours to see him. But he was still totally worth it.

  • Girls Night Out

by jlcass on 5/19/11Verizon Theatre At Grand Prairie - Grand PrairieRating: 5 out of 5

What a great first concert for my 14 yr old daughter to experience! Between Janelle Monae's musical theatrics and Bruno Mar's flirty performance I couldn't have taken her to a more WOW factor concert! Bruno played every song my daughter wanted to hear and never sat down once during his set.
