Remember in 'A Christmas Carol' when the Ghost of Christmas Past takes Scrooge to Fezziwig's Christmas Party? Scrooge is utterly captivated by the great time everyone is having. Seeing Fezziwig, he yells, "Look! It's Fezziwig and he's alive again!"
Fortunately, none of the BI artists at this show had passed away. Gordon Waller of Peter & Gordon had, but he wasn't resurrected for this show. The point is, that for a few hours we were transported back to a GREAT time in our lives. We were able to hear music and see the artists who created it once more. To us, this is music that is as alive and vibrant as it was 50 years ago. These songs and these artists sounded just as good as if it were 1965.
I had only seen Denny Laine prior to tonight. When I saw this concerts was coming and that Chad & Jeremy were going to be there, I got tickets right away. Chad & Jeremy were favorites, second only to The Beatles, but ALL of them were great to me. I'd have gone to see any them if they had appeared as individual acts.
These were GREAT songs that were meant to be sung, not rapped. They were simple songs, expressing simple emotions, like love. Love in 1965 was all new to us. Everything then was new to us and we had our whole lives ahead of us to explore. We were invincible.
This is not to say it was an old folks show any more than Lady Gaga or Katie Perry would be a young folks show. It is music, made to be enjoyed by everyone. It just happens to be our favorites.
I was once in a club where Chuck Berry was going to appear. I was glad to see so many people my kids' age in attendance. Somebody my age came up to me complaining about how dare they attend OUR show. I never felt that way. It was about the music and the music had made it. In 1965, we used to insist to OUR parents that our music would still be being played and enjoyed 50 years later. We were right.
How can I ever thank these GREAT artists for what they and their music has meant to my life? How can I thank them for such a fantastic show? Hurry back!
