About Bristol Motor Speedway
You can tell a lot about the character of Bristol Motor Speedway from the nicknames assigned to the venue by racing fans. There are four in wide circulation: "The Last Great Colosseum" and "The Bullring" for the track's shape; "The World's Fastest Half-Mile" for its speed (cars complete laps in about 15 seconds); and "Thunder Valley" for its noise. The track is steeply banked and ringed with stadium-style seating. With a capacity of 162,000, it is the third-largest sports venue in the United States and the seventh-largest in the world.
Bristol Motor Speedway History
Bristol Motor Speedway, located in the northeast corner of Tennessee, opened in 1961. It was built by Carl Moore, Larry Carrier, and R.G. Pope on the site of a former dairy farm. They drew their inspiration from a trip to Charlotte Motor Speedway, but the $600,000 Bristol track was a more intimate (and noisier) venue, and in 1969 the track was reconfigured with its signature steep banks. In 1992, BMS replaced its asphalt surface with a concrete surface that is now its other hallmark. It is something of a celebrity, having served as the basis for the fictional Motor Speedway of the South in the Disney/Pixar film Cars.
The speedway is home to races in the NASCAR Cup Series, the NASCAR Xfinity Series, NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series, ARCA Menards Series East, and the NHRA Mello Yellow Drag Racing Series. In the Cup Series, racing great Richard Petty holds the track record for most Top 10 finishes (with 37) and most starts (with 60). Darrell Waltrip leads with 12 all-time wins. The all-time winningest car owner at BMS is the legendary Junior Johnson, with 21 victories. Over the course of a week in 2010, Kyle Busch made history by winning three NASCAR national series races in a single race meeting: the Truck Series race on a Wednesday, then the Nationwide Series race, and the Spring Cup Series race.
We enjoyed our time at the track. Our seats were great. I would recommend a night race to any race fan.
Not a bad seat in the place! Right in the middle of the action! One of the best tracks in NASCAR!
The tickets came in without problems, The race was great! Of course leaving a 164,000 event was bad. More police directing traffic would have been nice.
Nice race even though our driver did not finish in 1st place. Bush controlled the weekend. Loads of fun. The parking and leaving after the race is another story. Bristol needs to re look at how traffic flows out of that place after the race. Unbelievably SLOW to get out. To get on the expressway, you had to go several miles in the opposite direction to only turn around and wait longer in more traffic. Just plan on going nowhere fast for several hours afterwards.
I have always wanted to go to bristol and i did i just wished the race wasnt so boring i mean it was bristol
hot one of yhe best time you wii have if you have not been to bristol speedway you have not had this kind of fun ever
Bristol is definitely the fastest short track in NASCAR!! When the green flag flies, you're surrounded by the roar of the engines and the track cools down. If you've never been to Bristol for a race, you're in for a treat when you finally make it! Bristol is the NASCAR mecca!!!!
I bought tickets for my husband's 50th birthday to the Bristol night race. We had SO much fun it is unforgettable!! We'll be back next year!!
I was amazed at how inexpensive it is when you get the race as compared to NFL & MLB... I used their free parking and shuttle service which was great... I was impressed and plan to go back next year!
I've alway's heard about how there's nothing else like the night race at Bristol and now I'm a believer! This event is FANTASTIC!
This is one race i would recomend to anyone that is into Nascar. There is nothing like it and it will be hard for me to go back to MIS or Indy next year after this race, Loved the Night Race
IT WAS A GREAT TIME AND THE PEOPLE WERE( FAN)TASTIC !!! I HAD ONE OF THE BEST TIMES AT A NASCAR EVENT. WITH THE EXCEPTION OF GOING THROUGH THE TRAFFIC LEAVING THE RACE IT WAS EVERYTHING I EXPECTED AND MORE!
I absolutely loved watching the race at Bristol Motor Speedway. In my opinion that is the best track to watch a race!!! You're able to see the whole track no matter where your seats are.
If you want excitement, this is the place to be, if you want to go to a party this is the place to be, if you like noise this is the place to be, if you want chills from the emotions this is the place to be, NOT A DULL MOMENT to be had, except waiting to get out of the parking lot to go home!!!
The experience that my wife and I had at the Bristol Motor Speedway was great. My wife is handicapped and the service we recieved was great, and parking was great. The race was very good with good rubbing whilr they were racing...nothing was out of hand.. The weather was cooperating with the event also.. the pre race shows, announcements and over all was very good>
If you like NASCAR, Bristol is a must see at least once in your lifetime!
the race was awesome except for who won but you'll have that lol.
Getting my ticket through will-call was nice and quick and the staff were awesome. I look forward to the Spring race next year as I have held the same seats since 1999! As for the race itself: Well, I loved the fact that the race was nice and quick with good weather to boot! But most importantly I got to witness history in the making with Kyle Bush's clean sweep. I'm not a Kyle Bush fan, but I can see where there is talent and he certainly has it!
Just the whole atmosphere was awesome, from the commencment of the soldiers to innauguarl 100th cup race.........Only bad thing was that Busch had to win =(
well, the bristol night race which use to be the premier race on their schedule was just okay. After the repaving of the track in 2007, the cars are strung out and theres no "bump and run" anymore. the excitement that was what people flocked from the east and west coast to see is just another of nascar's 'watered down" events like michigan, california, kansas, pocono, I hope that nascar officials go back to the drawing board to save what is their "bread & butter" event excluding daytona and talladega.
