Bridge School Concert Returns to High Form 10-22

by RealDrivingDave on 10/25/16Shoreline Amphitheatre - Mountain View

2016 will go down as one of the very best years for the Bridge School concert. Every performer brought their "A" game. The opening acts Nils Lofgren, My Morning Jacket, Norah Jones, and Cage the Elephant had great sound and tight sets. Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds had to be really happy with their performance. Roger Waters, Metallica, and Neil with the Promise of the Real were as huge as you'd expect.

First time attending the Benefit. Great cause, but would have liked to see more of Metallica and Roger Waters.

Epic night. Took my 13 year old son and he lived it. Always amazed at the talent and discovering new bands that I like.

    Speaker speaker speak to me

by Hearme2x on 10/25/16Shoreline Amphitheatre - Mountain View

day 1 was a loss due to the bad speaker situation where I was sitting. Day 2 unfortunately couldn't repeat attend whole concert so arrived in time for Willie was great. I know concert sold out because of Metallica, but im afraid theyve never been my favorite and after listening to them on day 1 with speaker problems day 2 was just uhh. cont- from "tell us about your seats" My seat rating would have been 5 except for the speaker and except for the fact that on day 1 the person doing a seat assignment turned me away based on her judgement of me and only gave me accessible seats once I showed her a photo of my handicap placard. She said it is her job to make these judgements. I said in that case she should have at least told me the truth rather than turning me away thinking there were no accessible seats left at all. I understand she is in a "tough seat" but you can't always tell what people's disabilities are. Some people are worse off than me but look better off. Some people are worse of and its clearly visible.

    Saturday night.

by tsta on 10/25/16Shoreline Amphitheatre - Mountain View

Overall a really good show. Nils Lofgren could not even be heard with people talking normally in the lawn. We all were shouting turn it up, but they didn't, must have been a human error glitch. Music was phenomenal otherwise. My Morning Jacket may have had the best set. Nora Jones was great. Promise of the Real was also great. And as usual Neil lit the place up.

    Best Lineup in long time!

by shancakes on 10/25/16Shoreline Amphitheatre - Mountain View

From start to finish, this year's Bridge School was absolutely stellar. Neil seemed more like his gregarious self and really provided the engine behind the performances. Loved that Nils was invited again - here is a man that has been there from the dawn of rock and although his music may not be well known, he set the stage with his stories and songs (great hat!). Too bad the sound system was turned down so low (des.pite not so subtle chanting from the crowd). The Elephants were refreshingly new and fun. Norah could have played a longer set and we would still be in heaven. Willie was his usual professional with his unforgettable guitar licks and voice - always a special treat to hear/see Mickey on the harp! Dave Matthews, Roger Waters, and Mettalica were all worthy of headliners. So many great songs, so little time for each. And then there was Uncle Neil and the Promise. A beautiful mix of old and newer delivered with passion and talent. WOW!!

    Roger Waters was amazing

by Elm155 on 10/25/16Shoreline Amphitheatre - Mountain View

I had lots of fun at the concert, always do! Wish Rogers Waters would of play more songs.Enjoy Willie Nelson, especially since he's up there in age, he still puts on a good show. Metallica would was very entertaining in talking to the audiance.Cage the Elephant , hadn't heard much of their music, but enjoy it. I've always enjoy Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds playing together. Got there late all rental chairs gone, wish they would of had more. Leaving the parking lot was much more sane. Appreciated the traffic folks. All of the staff were helpful. Will look forward to next year concert.

    A quiet mellow Bridge School

by PS55 on 11/1/15Shoreline Amphitheatre - Mountain View

When I saw the line up, I wasn't sure if I was going to go but my friends were going and it is for a good cause. It was hard to top since last year was so amazing. We got a parking place and spot on the lawn pretty quickly. The weather was warm and there were a lot of empty spots on the lawn. The music was good. I enjoyed Spoon and Ben Harper. I saw Ben and Gary Clark Jr at Outside Lands. When Lucas Nelson sang he sounded just like his dad.

    Music excellent, food opposite

by GlennH on 10/28/15Shoreline Amphitheatre - Mountain View

We go to BSBC every year, and every year there is a highlight moment. In 2015 it was Cheryl Crow calling the Dixie Chicks to the stage to sing with her. Perfect blend of voices -- and to top it off Gary Clarke, Jr. played a beautiful guitar accompaniment. I always wish Neil Young would again join a performer or two on stage. That didn't happen this year, but you can't have everything, I guess. On the other hand, the food at Shoreline was even worse than usual. It is difficult to figure why the food (menus, price, service) are so awful year after year. This is Northern California where people are used to finding tasty food, and we will pay up for it if necessary. Hey, we are already paying up for the hot dogs and pretzels at Shoreline, so why not offer something better? (The exception was wines-by-the-bottle. Decent selections at prices not way above restaurant wine lists. Nice sealable plastic carafes, too.)

What a surprise from the lineup.

by gusnus on 10/28/15Shoreline Amphitheatre - Mountain View

Great event, attended both days. It wasn't sold out so lines were not bad for vendors and restrooms, etc. Ben Harper, The Dixie Chicks, Sheryl Crow, Ryan Adams amazed and thrilled. Spoon, was alright, Underwhelmed by St Vincent, but no one else seemd to be. And of course, Neil and Promise of the Real. these guys seem have to re-energized Mr Young. Awesome concert!

Concert was great; Shoreline is seriously tired

by OceanfrontDave on 10/28/15Shoreline Amphitheatre - Mountain View

This was the first Bridge School Benefit I'd been to in 15 years, and it like all of the others I'd attended in the past (we now live in Los Angeles and flew up for the show). Some performances were very good (Sheryl Crow, Ryan Adams), some were good (Spoon, Ben Harper, Neil Young, Gary Clark Jr.), only one was painfully bad (St. Vincent) and one was truly exceptional (Dixie Chicks, sounding as good as they did in their prime). It's a great cause, a long day, and well worth the experience if you like music. But what completely surprised me after all these years was how extraordinarily worn and tired the Shoreline Amphitheater is now. I'm guessing that the owner has spent approximately zero dollars in tenant improvements since 2000. Everything looks like it's just been left outside for decades. In fact, the seats are so worn that they have black duct tape holding the edges together in places, and some of that duct tape came off and attached itself to my coat (which now must go to the dry cleaner to get the glue residue off). I guess the plan is to let the Shoreline survive until they bulldoze it down and build more tech offices. Sad.

    Bridge review

by wouldbefans on 10/27/15Shoreline Amphitheatre - Mountain View

We absolutely support the cause & admire those involved in making a difference in children's lives. That was the highlight, as the concert exceeded 7 hrs before Neil Young took the stage. Too many acts & way too long a concert. Won't attend again unless concert hours are shortened.

    Ben Harper 20 Years Later

by Anonymous on 10/27/15Shoreline Amphitheatre - Mountain View

Good show. Seeing how Ben Harper has evolved over 20 years was a real treat. Ohio was powerful, took me back to the day. Realized afterwards that Ben wasn't even born then, but the song took him there. Downside - Show is much too long. It ended almost an hour and half later than expected. Would be nice if Neil sang some different songs.

    An interesting mix.

by TheMotleyLeppard on 4/6/15Shoreline Ampitheater - Mountain View

Won tickets to this show from 107.7 The Bone. I was most interested in seeing Pearl Jam, as I would have caught their 2013 Oracle Arena concert, except that the ticket prices were insane and it was virtually sold out in a day. I was also looking forward to Neil Young, as I had heard he was an excellent performer. First up was Pegi Young & The Survivors. They played 5 songs. Reminded me of Janis Joplin a bit, though I'm not sure why. Surprised Neil let her play, as I had literally, just the day before, read they were getting a divorce. Next was a group called Band Of Horses. They sounded like a Country-fied version of Counting Crows. They played 5 songs, including a JJ Cale cover, which was especially for Neil Young, who is apparently a big JJ Cale fan. These guys had good energy. I think they've got potential. After that, Puss N Boots, a supergroup, featuring Norah Jones and two other girls took the stage. They were good, the audience loved them - they did 3 encores! I must say though, their thinly veiled, innuendo-filled songs were so terribly inappropriate for the event that it was hilarious, at least to me. Soundgarden followed Norah and company. Their performance was interesting, as they were the first group to use an acoustic/electric guitar that was actually plugged in. They played 5 songs, throwing in a couple b-sides along with the 3 hits they played. I think Chris Cornell had allergies - he sounded kind of odd when he spoke between songs. Next was Tom Jones. I honestly can't think of a way to describe just how awesome he was. All I can say is, if you ever get a chance to see him, do, whether you're familiar with his music or not. Brian Wilson, well, he was strange. He sang fine and everyone in his band, including the other Beach Boy, who was a special guest, sounded fine. It was the way he was moving, almost would make me think he had been replaced by a not-too-advanced robot clone. Florence + The Machine were up after Brian. Thankfully, they gave a good performance. Their singer, Florence Welch, is extremely attractive and sounds sort of like Grace Slick, the frontwoman of Jefferson Airplane/Starship. Her behavior between songs was adorable. Pearl Jam came on afterwards. Eddie Vedder was doing an amusing sort of false Southern act - think Bret Michaels, but slightly more unreal. It was very distinguishing, to his credit and it suited their performance quite nicely. Eddie knows most of the kids at the Bridge School and even played "Sirens" by request of one of them. Also, Temple Of The Dog reunion! Last, but certainly not least, Neil Young. He was just as good as I was expecting, even though he played maybe two songs I knew. Florence Welch, Pegi Young and other performers from earlier in the day joined him throughout his set. The only downside is near the middle of his last song, some guy in the audience started yelling obscenities, but the security took care of it.
