BRIAN WILSON IN CONCERT:

Visionary musical genius Brian Wilson first rose to international acclaim in the early ‘60s as the mastermind behind The Beach Boys’ “California Sound”, and now he’s bringing his crowning achievement back to fans on his Pet Sounds 50th Anniversary Tour. The seminal album won over fans around the world with its pioneering blend of orchestral arrangements, glistening harmonies, and coming-of-age lyrics, and it's widely regarded as one of the finest albums of the 20th century. Now, Wilson has invited top-notch musicians and some old friends to help him recreate each masterfully composed song note-for-note from start to finish—all while ticket buyers sing along to each unforgettable melody. With original Beach Boy Brian Wilson performing each beloved tune from the album with his signature good vibrations, this can’t-miss event is sure to stay with fans for a lifetime.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born in Inglewood, CA in 1942, Brian Wilson honed his musical chops in high school by deconstructing hits by The Four Freshman on the family piano and teaching the harmony parts to his brothers. After befriending Al Jardine in his college choir class, the two had the idea of forming a band. They teamed up with Brian’s brothers, Carl and Dennis, and his cousin, Mike Love, in 1961 and began performing as The Pendletones. After changing their name to The Beach Boys, the group rose to phenomenal success in the first half of the ‘60s with massive hits like “ Surfin’ Safari”, “I Get Around”, and “Help Me, Rhonda”. As their principal songwriter, Wilson had written or co-written over two dozen hits and gained complete control over the group’s studio production by his 21st birthday. His ground-breaking use of the recording studio as an instrument led to increasingly elaborate and experimental songs. Wilson's talent and creative ambition reached new heights with the release of 1966’s Pet Sounds, an enduring classic that many critics consider one of the best albums of all time. Sadly, Wilson suffered a nervous breakdown trying to top the album’s brilliance and spent much of the next two decades in deteriorating mental and physical health. He recaptured the public imagination in 1988, however, when he released his critically praised self-titled solo debut. As luck would have it, that same year The Beach Boys were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and scored their first number 1 hit in 22 years with “Kokomo”. Since then, Brian has continued to pursue projects at his discretion—both with The Beach Boys and as a solo artist—including his warmly received 2015 album No Pier Pressure.

by technobrilliantman on 11/8/09House of Blues Atlantic City - Atlantic City

We were privileged to witness the creative genius that is Brian Wilson.Having shared the evening at the concert was & is a truly memorable time that my wife & I thoroughly enjoyed. We danced the night away to Dance,Dance,Dance. We Rock n Rolled to the classic BeachBoy hits & revelled in Brians newer musical material besides his warm connection to the audience.Anyone who wants to go see Brian Wilson & his amazing band should not hesitate at their earliest opportunity. The Brian Wilson band played close to a two hour set plus started the show pretty much on time. The sound was true to the original but more enhanced & full,a real experience like a symphony orchestra that has to be seen & heard live to appreciate. He's a master at what he does & rightly deserves a good listen as Mr.Wilson would say.God Bless you for a night we'll truly treasure & hope to see again soon.

Still Going Strong After all These Years!

by tsamoni on 11/8/09House of Blues Atlantic City - Atlantic City

Brain Wilson is an overlooked icon whose eccentricity and personal life during the late seventies caused him to be overshadowed by his British counterparts the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. Wilson's songwriting ability and musicianship has, thank God, endured. We recently took in Brian's show at the House of Blues in Atlantic City, New Jersey. He played everything. . .I mean, EVERYTHING a fan wants to hear from his vast catalog with the Beach Boys. The band that Wilson has compiled authentically recreates the rich harmonies and orchestral arrangements making it seem as if the audience has stepped into the studio during the original session. Absolutely impeccable. Whether you are a casual listener or a die-hard fan, you are guaranteed to come away, as I did, with a greater appreciation of this American musical legend and with an absolute respect and admiration for his musical prowess.

In the presence of an icon

by willsonline on 11/8/09House of Blues Atlantic City - Atlantic City

Brian Wilson is a huge hero of mine. I feel fortunate to have had an opportunity to see him. Unfortunately, he was not in good form for this show. He was having pitch problems. He ran out of steam a little past midway through the show, and it showed in his voice. He seemed bored and off kilter in general. He sat at his keyboard but never played. Towards the end of the show he strapped on a bass but never played a note. He got up and walked off stage before the last song of the set was finished, and did the same thing during the last song of the first encore. The man just seemed out there. I have a feeling that touring may be too draining for him. He's definitely got the goods. He proved it with his incredible vocal work on the recent release of "Smile". The real star of this show was his band, nine members in all. There were a few remarkable multi-instrumentalists among them. They nailed every vocal and instrumental part. I had goosebumps listening to them. See below for a list of songs they performed.

    Brian Wilson: A Celebration

by RussL on 11/8/09House of Blues Atlantic City - Atlantic City

I went to see Brian Wilson expecting to see a great concert. Instead I saw one of the most amazing performances and celebrations of his music you could ever imagine. I was truely moved by this show. In my wildest dreams I never expected to see a show of this quality from one of the baby boomer icons. Brian was terrific and his band was unbelievabel! The show featured hit after hit afer hit from ever step along Brian's career. Not lifeless covers but lovingly recreated mini masterpieces! I have lost count on how many live concerts I have attended in my life but I can tell you that this was one of the best...a legendary show!

    Fantastic

by britune on 11/5/09Lyell B Clay Concert Theatre - Morgantown

I've been to see a lot of shows over the years, but this one was one of the best. Brian's band was truely fantastic. 9 people singing harmony at the same time. All in perfect tune. I doubt you'll see this many great singers performing this great together very often. There must have been about 12 people in his band, with percussion, drums, guitars, keyboards, xylophone, bass, horns, etc. They play all the best Beach Boys songs. About 1/3 of the show was Brian Wilson's, not as well known, solo material. Even it sounded moving. Brian has been through a lot, and he only signs lead about 1/2 the time (kinda like he did in the Beach Boys). Jeff Foskett, of the latter era Beach Boys, in his band sings many of the high parts and higher lead lines. And he is amazing. Brian had some difficulty singing the high lead notes to "God Only Knows". He also coughed a couple times in the middle of songs. He sits behind his piano and sings and ocassionally plays a few piano lines. But overall, Brian was very entertaining. I am musician, engineer, and home recordist. The sound engineer for this tour should be commended. He has so many instruments to deal with and kept the mix sounding clean and clear. The sound was huge when the backing vocals and horns came in. We could hear every note of everry solo. The faders were adjusted at the right time. I'm not a big Beach Boys fan. I only own "Pet Sounds" and the greatest hits. But this concert was fantastic! Especially the band, the songs, and the sound! This is one of the best concerts I have seen in many years.

    Brian Wilson at Keswick PA

by TracyinNewYork on 11/4/09Keswick Theatre - Glenside

Loved the show, especially Brian and all his quirks. The backup band was awesome. Didn't care for the cover songs in the encore...but overall was pleased to hear some "non top 40" tunes.

    Brian Wilson is AMAZING!!

by SurferGirl1961 on 11/2/09Lyell B Clay Concert Theatre - Morgantown

I saw Brian Wilson at WVU last night and was completely blown away! I have followed Brian's career with The Beach Boys from the beginning....having, grown up listening to everything he's written and performed...and knowing how he's struggled emotionally for all of these years, I was amazed at the way he interacted with the audience and how good his voice still is, despite everything he's been through. His genius was palpable and his talent is second to none. I listened, in amazement to all of those fabulous songs which have the ablility to transport me back to so many unforgettable moments in my life..."In My Room", God Only Knows", "Surfer Girl" and of course, "Barbara Ann", "Good Vibrations" and "Surfin'USA". He, along with the incredibly talented group of musicians he has backing him, sound as good, if not better than The Beach Boys ever did...but then, I wouldn't expect anything less from Brian Wilson; the consumate writer and performer that he was,is and always will be. It's refreshing to see someone in the music business who has remained true to himself and his craft. I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to witness such an awesome performance and to see, in person, just how far Brian has come on his journey. Thank You, Brian! God Bless!

    Brian Wilson Show was GREAT!

by BigCat54 on 11/2/09Lyell B Clay Concert Theatre - Morgantown

Brian's Leadership as his band flawlesslyl played almost all of the recognizable hits of the Beach Boys was simply amaziing. He also played couple of his new songs. It was a great blend of the master writer and performer of the past teamed up with some of the best talent of today performing with excitement, precision, and any other adjective that fits. I saw the Beach Boys in my town about (10) years ago and they were really good, but I have to say that this evening with Brian Wilson and his outstanding band was probably even better. The band was so tight and the singers must all have perfect pitch because their harmonies seemed so good and effortless, that it took your breath away. I went with my wife (40's) and my Fatther and his wife (70's) and we all were on our feet for the last few songs of the night.

    Brian Wilson - "Fun, Fun,Fun"

by daddycamp on 11/2/09Lyell B Clay Concert Theatre - Morgantown

Brian's band was great as always. They are so good that sometimes you could imagine you were listening to the original recordings. Brian has to be admired for touring and giving his fans a last shot at seeing him perform all those great songs. I even found some new ones I will like along with the well known hits. He said he may be back next year. Hopefully he will tour for several more years. When he stops, the music world won't be the same. I try to pas his music down through my kids. They seem to enjoy the 60s and 70s like I do. And finally, I got to see him perform "My Imagination" live. Love it all from "Salt Lake City" to "Southern California.:

Brian Wilson is a musical genius and perfectionist

by dolphin5688 on 11/2/09Lyell B Clay Concert Theatre - Morgantown

I saw him with the Beach Boys in the 80's. I wasn't sure what to expect since this was his own show. I knew it would be musically perfect. But, WOW what a great show. He is entertaining and musically gifted. I believe he expects to give the audience a perfect sound, like you hear on a cd.

    Brian Wilson good vibes!

by DernerLee on 11/1/09Keswick Theatre - Glenside

The concert was terrific! Brian continues to produce great sounds & songs. The band he has assembled is very talented and definitely has acquired the Beach boy sound. He gets the place rocking...that's what makes it so much fun. He talks between songs and he's having a great time, which definitely rubs off on the audience.

    Brian Wilson was awesome!!!

by BeachBoysForever on 10/31/09Keswick Theatre - Glenside

Brian gave a great show. He performed all the great Beach Boy hits and a few lesser known album cut. I loved the performance of the Lucky Old Sun material. Midnight's Another Day/Going Home/Southern California was the highlight of the evening for me. Brian rocked out during the encore, and he had a poignant delivery of Love and Mercy to finish the evening.
