About

Brett Goldstein--a breakthrough British creative force on and offscreen -- has emerged as one of Hollywood's most sought-after multihyphenates. He is the co-executive producer, writer, and star of the Peabody-winning Apple TV+ series, "Ted Lasso." Hailed by fans and critics alike, season three made waves after surpassing its previous record-breaking haul, once again leading as this year's most-nominated comedy series with 21 Emmy nominations. His scene-stealing performance as the brash yet lovable Roy Kent has earned him numerous accolades including two Primetime Emmy Awards for 'Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy,' making him the category's first back-to-back winner in almost 15 years.  He additionally received a 2022 WGA Award nomination as part of the show's writing team, having scored two wins the year prior. Goldstein is the creator and executive producer of the cathartic comedy "Shrinking" alongside Jason Segel and Bill Lawrence, which has been renewed for a second season by Apple TV+. This follows the success of his critically acclaimed AMC limited anthology series, "Soulmates," which he created and executive produced with Will Bridges. He is the host of the iHeartRadio award-winning podcast, Films To Be Buried With, which finds him in candid conversation with special guests as they discuss the films that have shaped them.

    Great event

by Chris on 1/24/24The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

I was familiar with Brett's work from his podcast and his TV work, but wasn't sure what to expect from his stand-up. I really enjoyed it. The venue is what we've come to expect from the Chicago Theatre, going to shows there a few times a year in most years. It's a nice venue, but the amenities aren't anything special. You're there for a show, not to be wow'd by the food, drink, merch, or bathrooms. The seats aren't luxurious, but they aren't uncomfortable for me as a bigger person (over 6-ft tall). There are some seated venues I avoid, this isn't one of those. One point left room for improvement: the ushers were very good about enforcing the "no phone/no recording"rule, which I appreciate, but part of that meant leaving the back-of-the-aisle doors open for much of the show. On a cold January evening and with some light and noise from people in the lobby bleeding in, both I and the person with me noticed it was a bit of a distraction and took a little away from our enjoyment of the show. We were probably about 8-10 rows from the back of the section, so something to keep in mind if you're in one of those rows. Not a major issue, but worth noting.

    Brett Goldstein was AMAZING

by Debbie B on 1/23/24The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

What a great show. Brett was funny and cute and humble. He seemed to speak very honestly and his jokes really hit the mark. And his comedic timing is spot on! I only wish the show was longer.

    Great Show!

by MarilynR on 1/23/24The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

Enjoyed the show. The opening act with Mo was ok. Brett did not disappoint—his point of view was unique and funny. The sound was very good for the most part—you have to tune in to his accent. Would recommend the show.

    Great opener, hilarious set

by Shelley on 1/22/24The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

Mo Welch was a fantastic opener--constant laughs, very personable and engaging. Brett Goldstein's set was excellent, and has me thinking on it days later. Love how he ends the show by answering offbeat questions the audience wrote before the show.

    Brett does excellent stand-up

by Adidas_19_99 on 1/22/24The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

I think some audience members may have been expecting Roy Kent on stage, but let’s be clear, Brett has been doing standup for a long time ahead of his experience on Ted Lasso. While, the material he wrote, for that show was amazing and outstanding his stand up gives you that same feeling. I love that Brett got personal, giving you insight into his real life. Not too sure how many people knew he had a stand-up career before seeing him for the first time on Ted Lasso. It was a great time and his opener was pretty phenomenal as well.

    So much talent

by PMS1104 on 1/22/24The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

We were not familiar with any of Brett's work outside of Ted Lasso but decided to buy tickets trusting that he would be great. He was better than great! Witty, smart, and wildly entertaining.

    Literally a laugh a minute

by Karen T on 1/21/24The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

Both Brett and Mo, the comedienne who opened for him, gave excellent performances. My only criticism is the very poor stage lighting. Brett obviously wore dark clothing, the background was a black curtain and the spots on him were dim and mostly blue. We had good seats, but could not see his facial expressions. This detracted quite a bit from our enjoyment of the show.

Goldstein is a brilliant and engaging person. He is a funny storyteller not just a comedian who a bunch of unrelated one liners. Can’t wait to hear more of his stories!
