BOY AND BEAR IN CONCERT:
Indie darlings Boy and Bear have delighted fans with their folk-tinged rock since their inception in 2009, and they’ve steadily risen to the top of Australia's underground scene. With their soaring harmonies and sparing use of banjo and piano, Boy and Bear creates a full, ethereal sound that comes to life during their riveting live performances. One of the hottest new acts to emerge from Down Under, the five-piece delivers passionate, emotional sets on their must-see tours.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Initially the solo project of Dave Hosking, Boy and Bear took its present shape after the singer/guitarist met his future bandmates -- all of which were performing in other groups at the time -- while sharing the bill with them at local shows around their native Sydney, Australia. After spending time playing together and honing their songwriting, Boy and Bear released their 2011 debut album Moonfire, which peaked at No. 2 in Australia and earned the band five ARIA Awards. Their 2013 follow-up LP Harlequin Dream topped the charts and earned praise from critics and fans alike. After spending time on the road with Angus and Julia Stone and Mumford & Sons as well as headlining their own dates, the band has gained a devoted following. Known for their captivating live sets, Boy and Bear have ticket buyers in awe every time they take the stage.
FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:
"It's so rare to watch a band that is genuinely enjoying itself on stage. These guys have great chemistry performing together. Seriously fun to watch. AND they sound even better live than they do on their album. Amazing!"
"Boy & Bear is bound for the ranks of Mumford & Sons and Fleet Foxes. Ones to watch!"
"They all play and sing very well. I like the indie rock/alt-country sound they bring because it sounds fresh and different and doesn't get tiresome. Most definitely a worthy listen!"

They were great. The whole set was strong and they sounded amazing. My whole family went and we are all big fans now.
Boy & Bear opened with a lot of energy and the attention of the audience. I thought near the middle of the show some of the energy was lost along with the interest of those listening. I believe this was due to some of the songs sounding too similar to ones played earlier. The last third of the set regained the energy, overall a good show. The band has a great sound but I was expecting a little more improvising on the songs I was familiar with. That along with a few more dynamic songs will have them playing the bigger stage they deserve to be on.
Triple Rock is a small venue with a social atmosphere. Boy and Bear had the attention of everyone in the crowd from the moment they stepped on to the very last note of tje last song i think i even saw the bartender dancing. They were incredible my favorite part was watching the lead guitarist beacsuw he was so into the music he was playing you ciuld tell he was passionate about the music. I mean what else could you ask for!?! 10/10 would recommend i cant wait till they come back!!
I have loved this band for a long time, but have been unable to see them until this show. They were even better than expected!
Such a good show! Was packed and will need a bigger venue, but these guys are awesome
Excellent little venue, the opening act were actually awesome, they had a great stage presence and very entertaining to the point that I found myself an instant fan. Highly recommended both bands.
They had a great warm-up band called Run River North which really got the crowd going. They played most of their record Harlequin Dream and a Good portion of Moonfire. I could see the band well from my location and you could tell by the second set that they were having as much fun as the crowd. For example when they were transitioning from one song to another they snuck in a cover of "Heart of Gold" in the middle of the transition and the whole room sang along. Also, everyone in the band was grinning from ear to ear when they played "Southern Sun" and the whole room sang with them. The lead singer sounds awesome live. Too many bands do not sound as well singing live as they do on their records. If you have a chance to see them live DO IT!! They sound great!!
THE best band. Loved it from start to finish. Back down the back, my favorite song, blew me away.
Love Boy & Bear and Music Hall of Williamsburg is probably my favorite venue in the city
Good group of muscians! Nice mix of songs. Nice venue and a well behaved crowd.
The performance was superb, great to see them live. The opening band, Run River North was also really good. The whole night was really unforgettable. Definitely 2 awesome bands that everyone should see live.
A talented group of musicians and great harmonies, would have been fantastic around 80 to 90 db. But it was over 110 db at the Royale for this show (I measured it) and difficult to enjoy at that level. Lots of people left early, maybe from fatigue.
This was the second time that my wife and I have seen Boy and Bear this year, and once again they did not disappoint. There recordings are so straight forward that when you see them in concert they sound almost exactly the same. They keep the audience invested in the entire evening by mixing it up in terms of song styles.
Great venue and both groups were amazing! Have never heard of Dresses before this event and fell in love with them during their performance. Of course Boy & Bear were great and interacted incredibly with the crowd
Wonderful band, found them early this year whilein peru, every day driving to the beach they played Southern Sun in the radio.
After seeing Boy & Bear in a tiny venue in Brooklyn last time they were here, it was cool to see them in a bigger setting but without losing all the intimacy. They were wonderful and obviously enjoying themselves. The support band The Dresses were also very cool and I bought their cd after the show.

first time I saw or heard this band ... they were great!!!!
I had never heard of Boy and Bear until I read about them in the Weekly Events column of the newspaper the day before the performance. I decided to go on a whim just to check them out and I am glad I did. I manage to hear one or two songs on YouTube to capture their sound and was quite intrigued by it. They all play and sing very well. I like the Indie Rock/Alt-Country sound they bring because it sounds fresh and different and doesn't get tiresome. Most definitely a worhy listen!
