Boston Celtics History

The Celtics are one of the most successful franchises in NBA history. They are tied with the Lakers for the most NBA Championships at 17, and hold 10 conference titles and 33 division titles. They’ve retired 25 jersey numbers — the most of any franchise in the league.

The franchise was founded in 1946 and won their first championship in the 1956–57 season, which was the start of the most dominant run by any team in NBA history. Powered by Bill Russell and coached by Red Auerbach, both of whom are now Hall of Famers, the Celtics won 11 NBA Championships in a 13-year span.

Russell won the NBA MVP Award five times in that stretch, and teammate Bob Cousy also was named league MVP once. Of their first 11 championships, seven came against the Lakers. It began a cross-country rivalry that is still one of the league’s fiercest today.

The Celtics won two more titles in the '70s and finished the decade by securing Larry Bird in the 1979 NBA Draft. That began another dominant stretch in which the Celtics went to the finals five times in seven years and won three more titles. The Celtics did not return to the finals until the 2007–08 season, when they were led by the "Big Three" of Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen. They once again beat the Lakers to win their 17th championship.

The Celtics most recently advanced to the NBA Finals in 2022, but eventually lost in a competitive series to the Golden State Warriors. The team was led by current stars Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum.

Boston Celtics at TD Garden

TD Garden opened in 1995 and replaced the original Boston Garden, which housed the Celtics for 49 years. In the nearly 30 years it has hosted the Celtics, TD Garden has been renovated three times: in 2006, 2009 and 2014. The latest renovations added a new HD entertainment board, a see-through shot clock and an LED lighting system to the exterior of the building.

TD Garden also houses The Sports Museum, which features memorabilia from various sports teams and events in the area, including the Boston Celtics, Boston Bruins, Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. It also features sculptures of some of the most legendary athletes in Boston's history, including Larry Bird.

    Over stimulation

by Bruce on 2/6/23TD Garden - Boston

Not one second of downtime. The game seems secondary to the chaos of entertainment.not one moment of silence,a low hum in the stadium at all times. Meanwhile everyone is looking at their phones. Oh well

    Celtics game at TD garden

by Justin on 1/29/23TD Garden - Boston

The tickets are expensive. I enjoyed the game,& had a good seat. However the concessions are over priced & absolutely ridiculous, that cash is not accepted in 2023. They can handle it.

    Top Tier Experience

by Tuli on 1/23/23TD Garden - Boston

From the food to an intense 3rd & 4th quarter to being 3 feet away from Jordan Knight before halftime 😍 and top it all off with overtime. It was absolutely incredible!!! I’m so happy I flew out.

    First Celtic game

by Chris on 12/3/22TD Garden - Boston

It initially looks like a huge mall with a Arena built in the middle. The lite green escalators are a nice touch. Many food and drinking options to choose from. Pretty much everything in the gift shops are 35 to 225 bucks. Most hats are 50. Not much in terms to look at or take pictures of in either floor. No matter where you sit its a great view. Its areally nice place.

Seats were better than I expected

by Celts fan on 11/30/22TD Garden - Boston

Section 10, Row 10, Seats 3 & 4 (farther from court) I checked them out online and wasn't sure that we'd be able to see very well but they were great! They were angled slightly to the court so we weren't just facing the fans behind the basket. I'm short and the row in front was low enough that I could see!

    Great experience

    by C. J. on 11/28/22

The seating is very tight though in loge area .. not made for big people

  • Rating: 1 out of 5

    Cramped seating

by Breanna on 11/28/22TD Garden - Boston

The game itself was a great game, but the seats are too small. And spare me the “fat comments”. Anyone 5’8 or taller won’t have enough leg room. And even smaller guests were shoulder to shoulder in the width of the seat. I heard they added 500 more seats, but didn’t change the structure. It shows! Please fix this!

Celtics - kings game in Boston

by Jaden on 11/28/22TD Garden - Boston

It was all amazing, as expected. But I arrive at the tickets checking and I couldn't open my tickets, it kept saying "oops, try again". Luckily my friend was able to log in for me and show the tickets on her phone, but it took a really long time.

by Freixedelo on 11/26/22TD Garden - Boston

I propose my fiancé right before the congratulatory message display on TDGarden Jumbotron! And for that I thank Celtics Fan Relations from the heart. We will always remember such an amazing show. And because we loved so much being with Celtics agains Dallas Mavs, we managed to come again against Sac Kings, after our flight got postponed for 24hours. Can you imagine? Go Celtics
